Really out there compared to what I usually read. While reading, I wanted this to be a story of Jade overcoming adversity and becoming strong. Which did happen. However, this wouldn't be a Quil Cater book if I wasn't morally challenged to the point of frustration. Really hard to rate.
This was SUCH a deep backstory. And it's so impressive how every detail fits so perfectly into the main series, but you can read that without this and still be satisfied. I loved how this book sets up so much stuff that doesn't come to fruition until later in the series.
After reading this, I struggled deciding whether or not to read the side stories or to read the main series straight through. I decided to leave the rest of the back stories as treats for after the series is over. ...more
