I guessed, based on the plane, that we were finally going to see Alabama and we did! I loved that this series happened in kinda boring places? BecauseI guessed, based on the plane, that we were finally going to see Alabama and we did! I loved that this series happened in kinda boring places? Because it gave a charming sense of place while letting the characters really carry the story. I loved the happy ending our characters got but omg the angst was killing me! All things considered, I was ok with that though, because as a whole, the series was pretty low angst.
***SPOILERS***
My biggest issue is Ryan. So he's an abusive asshole, and while some people have come around to the idea that maybe he wasn't the best for Will, I really wanted the town to realize how cruel he was. When we see Heartly all depressed and taking Ryan's cruelty without any reaction, I was so upset. Will offers to help but then we never see anything again. The fact that Ryan convinced(?) his indigenous bf to cut off his hair is so sad. And he's obviously drunk again. Why isn't the town talking about these two things? I get that the story wasn't really about them, but Will and Patrick, but it makes me anxious to know that Heartly was left alone with that asshole. I hope this is addressed in the next book.

THIS WAS SO GOOD!!! I saw on kindle that 2 books were listed so while I was so into it, especially towards the end, I wasn't sad, because I knew the nTHIS WAS SO GOOD!!! I saw on kindle that 2 books were listed so while I was so into it, especially towards the end, I wasn't sad, because I knew the next book was there. BUT NO. IT WAS NOT THERE.
The completely different backgrounds, motivations, and mentalities of the MCs was so well done. They way they slowly go from enemies to having each other's backs was so slow and organic and didn't require the characters to change themselves to the point of unrecognizability.
The only thing I didn't get was why/how they started having sex. It came out of nowhere?

Took a bit to get going, but was worth it. I really loved that this wasn't distinct books, but episodes instead. I've read a few series like this in tTook a bit to get going, but was worth it. I really loved that this wasn't distinct books, but episodes instead. I've read a few series like this in the past year and I really enjoy the pacing and character development. If anyone reads this first book and isn't convinced about continuing, just do it, it gets better and better.
