I have been looking forward to getting to know Zsadist's twin since I read of his heroic rescue of his brother.
Issue 1: There was almost as much John Matthew as there was Phury, the main focus. At one point I thought John would end up with Cormia. Issue 2: I didn't really see a real connection between Cormia and Phury. I would have liked to see their love developed more. Issue 3: Instead of trying to help him with his addiction, they kicked him out of the Brotherhood--WHAT?. This is the Phury who tried to protect Z and save Bella. The same one who became Primale to save Vishous from a life that V didn't want. Now I realize that Z couldn't focus on Phury due to Bella's pregnancy issues but I don't think Thank you would have killed him. Issue 4: A lot of focus on the new trainees...and not enough brothers Issue 5: The story didn't flow that well for me. Writing kept jumping around from story to story.
Okay, It wasn't all bad. There were some nice parts such as the baby delivery, Phury kicking his drug habit etc. I do think Ward set up Rehvenge and John well for their upcoming stories, but it was at the expense of Phury. You have to read this book to continue with the storyline, but just know it was not as good as the previous ones.
I have read Lover Avenged, and it was much better. So I know the series picks up again. It is worth reading, just go in with your eyes open. Knowing the next books are way better and you will get back to the Brothers and action....more

There was just something about Butch being on the fringe that made me sad for him. I also had a feeling that his destiny required him to be a brother. I loved his interaction with Vishous (my favorite Brother) and this book had a lot of that.
The underdog in me rejoiced when the outsider became an insider and the whole process left me happy for Butch. I will admit that I have never cared for Marissa, but I enjoyed Butch's struggle to be with her even though he was a human.
This book had a lot of scenes with the various brothers and that is something I missed in the subsequent books. Butch's story is like a second life for those who didn't quite fit in, but later found their place in life. ...more

But as the story develops, you learn that there is a lot more to him that just casual sex. There was tenderness between Mary and Rhage and they genuinely care about each other's well being. In a way, they healed each other or at least soothed the beast within. A cute scene was when Rhage told Mary to talk to him, just say anything. So Mary began saying "Anything" in lots of different ways, it was just amusing and touching.
This story was a great follow up to Dark Lover as Ward gives us insight into another Black Dagger Brother. It was a page turner and like I have said, it is nice to see strong men publicly show their affection for their women.
What I loved about the first 4 books is that they really focused on the main characters and developing them well. As the series moves along, there is a lot of attention devoted to the non-main Hero & Heroine. Hopefully Ward will get back on track in that department. ...more

I couldn't stop reading this book and the next 3 in the series. Wrath is the leader of the Brotherhood of vampires that have sworn to defend their race from exterminators (lessors) and Beth is the daughter of one of the brothers name Darius. Darius asked Wrath to protect his half breed daughter. The moment he met her, their chemistry ignited. Their journey towards a union was romantic and captivating.
1st, the writing was great. This was my first J.R Ward book and I was impressed. I am reading Kenyon's Dark Hunters, and JR Ward is far superior. This was just better in terms of in the flow of the story, complexity of the plot and the character development. If you liked the Lara Adrian Midnight Breeds, you will Love this series because they are similar but with better writing. Well...okay, Adrian's series is great too.
2nd, it had danger, good vs. evil, sex and strong men who showed their emotion to their women and passion. A happy ending for the couple is a must for me. This book was extremely engaging to read.
3rd, it introduced other brothers, so you knew there would be a follow up stories giving you more history on each brother. Each brother had their own cross to bear and thus had very a distinct, but painful history.
I will say that unlike many, I liked the slang i.e. "what's doin'. I like the modern twist to the old vampire stories that they must feed on their own kind. The sex is a tad graphic but I enjoyed the story telling. The next book was even better as was the third book. This is the best series that I have read so far. ...more

They had a car accident at the same time, and so their souls were in communion during their out of body experience. When they returned to their respective bodies, they were left feeling incomplete without each other.
This premise was creative and I wish she spent more time really acclimatizing us to the characters. The book was a quick read, but I wouldn't have minded if it was twice as long. I didn't "experience" Julian's struggle/suffering as an artist. So it made it hard to appreciate his one night success. Laura had a bad relationship, so she was single and hiding behind her work. I wanted to know a little bit more about what shaped their lives.
My favorite thing: the Heroine was a strong, independent and savvy entrepreneur. I am sick of these weak and feeble women needing rescue.
My least favorite thing; I was hoping for a real world connection as well as a mystical bond. I didn't feel a serious reciprocal connection between Julian and Laura...or even Gerald and Laura. The book would have benefited from more fleshing out of their times together. It didn't have to be graphic, but there should have been more descriptions about their emotions when they were around each other. I wanted to FEEL their love, passion and their BOND.
Also the ending was rushed. There wasn't enough time of Julian and Laura together getting to know each other. That was what the book was about--their bond, and there wasn't enough of a physical bond (on earth). That is what I was truly waiting for.
I will recommend this book because it was pleasurable and it wasn't so focused on sex as many of the paranormals seemed to be. It was a nice twist to the same old plots. ...more

II recommend this book for the romantic content (not to sappy or vulgar), some hardcore fighting (good vs. evil) and for the excellent story telling. I just loved it.
This book introduces us to Jude, a street hustler, who had no idea of who her family was. One day, a man named Williams appears, and thus begins the process of Jude learning about herself and her destiny. We learn about her connection to a group of people known as the convenant. This group of protectors are lead by a woman named Gillian, who becomes Jude's mentor. As Jude is learning about herself and the covenant, a threat appears in the form of an evil guy named Hart. Laying dormant in Jude, is an arsenal of really cool powers, which makes her a force to be reckoned with. So ultimately, Jude and Hart must face off in a battle.
I loved Jude's "hardness" or survival instincts as the author phrased it. I also loved her interaction with the other characters, as she was just a sarcastic, witty heroine.
The writer tells the story in such vivid descriptions that I felt that I was on those streets, I felt like I could smell the beignets or envision the moody New Orleans weather. This was an action packed journey that Jude and the Convenant takes the reader on.
Such great writing. I mean, this book was just so engaging. I would have loved to learn more about Hart's younger years. Being that evil had to take some time to develop so maybe we can get a book on them growing up. Also, I really thought she would end up someone different than who she did (I don't want to give it away) but she made her choice and stuck to it. I really liked her man, I mean he is a good man and treats like she is the best thing ever, but I liked the dark, mysterious thing with Guy #1. I just felt like there was unfinished business there, so I will have to wait for the sequel.
I recommend this book to all PNR/UF lovers. You won't be able to put this book down. ...more
