After a bit of reflection, I've figured out why that is. **spoiler alert** I thought this would be just as good as the Hedonist books, but it wasn't. After a bit of reflection, I've figured out why that is. In the Hedonist books, Sebastian and all the other omegas truly have the power to chose and to say no. In this book, most of the omegas seem to have that power day to day, but in the actual mating, they are totally powerless and we're just told they're happy with that. Aiken specifically, has very little choice to me, because of the political situation he's in, combined with his upbringing. If he had truly internalized the concept of omega freedom before anything sexual happened, I may have felt differently. If he had truly been presented with and entertained alternatives to ending up with the kings, I may have felt differently. But at the end of the day, he ended up exactly where it seemed he had to, to avoid a worse fate back home. The kings wanted him and got him. He was confused and scared and ended up with the only alphas with the power to keep him safe.
The sex/mating aspect was creative and exciting, as it always is from Horvat. I hope we get to see more books from these kingdoms and that there are some published crossovers. Really wish Horvat was publishing a new book every month ...more

I wish we had learned a little bit more about the omega's past. I don't like the way sex work was casually interchanged with the trafficking of children but all authors seem to do that. It's ok to just say your character was a slave, without mentioning sex work at all. The thing I loved the most about this book was the inventive health/heat/pregnancy/bonding problems and the amazing solution.
OMG!!!! SO GOOD! I've mentioned it before, but Bellows is my benchmark for omega/omega romance and as always, she hit it out of the park. If you enjoyOMG!!!! SO GOOD! I've mentioned it before, but Bellows is my benchmark for omega/omega romance and as always, she hit it out of the park. If you enjoyed Red Wolf Thrall, this book is kinda like if two omegas had fallen in love on the compound. Except its penguins at a conservative finishing school. The twists towards the end were SO GOOD! Just such a rich story, such a sweet love, such cute characters. Can't wait to re-read it!!! ...more

The tortured, man of mystery was perfectly executed for the Alpha of this book. My only criticism of this book is the whole "I can't sex cause I can't control myself" thing. Ok fine, you partially shift into a wolf and it makes you violent. Only it kinda didn't really go anywhere? If their first shared heat was supposed to exemplify this behaviour, it was way too understated. Also, I wish there was a HEA epilogue. ...more
