Have I Made a Difference?

As I get older, I look back on my life and wonder what it would have been like if I’d made different decisions along the way. What if I’d done that volunteer job after college instead of letting my mother scare me out of it? What if I’d gotten a fulltime teaching job? Taken my writing career more seriously from the start? Travelled to distant lands

“The mood at dinner is so chilly I half-expect a polar bear to storm through the door.”
Susan Thogerson Maas, Abbie's Woods: Defending the Nest

“Why, God?, I whisper to the vastness of the sea. Why do little kids get sick? Why do moms and dads fight? Why can’t life be the way I imagine it in my head—always peaceful and good?”
Susan Thogerson Maas, Abbie's Woods: Defending the Nest

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”
Rainer Maria Rilke

“You is kind. You is smart. You is important.”
Kathryn Stockett, The Help
