This is the third book in Mary Ann Hake's series of picture books about seasons. This one is on Fall and includes the many smells and delightful images associated with the season.
What truly captivated me about this book is its unique perspective. It tells the story of a young girl who is blind, yet she navigates her days, embracing all the season has to offer.
I also love it because Fall is my most favorite season.
This book is not just a delightful read but also a valuable tool to help children explore and understand the wonders of autumn-its smells, sounds, and feel.
It’s an easy-to-read book for young readers and will bring a smile to their faces. The words flow in a melodious way.
Mary Ann Hake is a wonderful author who brings sweet words for children and adults to read.
This book would make a wonderful addition to any child’s bookshelf or even a schoolroom.
I highly recommend you pick it up for your children.
The author gave me this book, but this did not influence my review in any way; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Smell of Fall: A Smells of the Seasons Book is another entertaining addition to this series by Mary Ann Hake. I loved "seeing" the season of fall through sweet April's nose. It gave me a new perspective of the season by using the sense of smell. I enjoyed it all with April while going on this adventure with her. The illustrations were a perfect a addition to her story. I loved it.

The Smell of Fall: A Smells of the Seasons Book will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who are between the ages of three and eight. As always, I am interested in reading more books like this one from Mary Ann Hake in the future.

I received a digital copy of Mary Ann Hake's The Smell of Fall: A Smells of the Seasons Book from the author, but was not required to post a review, nor a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

A quick read of a delightful children's book. This is the third in a series by Mary Ann Hake telling of April, a young blind girl, who enjoys each season through her sense of smell. It helps the young reader understand that someone with a disability can be just like they are. It also brings about a better appreciation for scents that we sighted people sometimes take for granted. This gives the young reader a new perspective of things if they are enjoyed by the smell only. Lovely, rhymed prose that children can enjoy, and colorful, fun illustrations. Mary Ann also includes activities that involve scents in the back of the book. I also greatly enjoyed The Smells of Spring and the The Smells of Summer. Looking forward to The Smells of Winter.

Book 3 of the Smells of the Seasons series reminds us of the many delightful smells of the fall season. The author takes us on a sensory walk through many of the delightful smells of the fall season as we follow along with April, a little girl who is blind. Along the way, we see the acute sensitivity of April’s sense of smell, which enables her to experience the world from a different perspective from those who are not visually impaired. April even notices things that other children may overlook like the smell of fall leaves, pumpkins, a corn maze and even a hot potato hiding in the hay. This book is an excellent way for teachers to introduce the five senses, experimenting with how our sense of smell can inform us about our surroundings in a way that our sense of sight cannot.

What a delightful storybook and a clever premise. So often, the sense of smell is forgotten when interacting with physical beauty. Several “typical” scents that go with fall are presented, but there are many that made me think “of course!” I found myself trying to come up with other aromas associated with the season and am eager to read The Smell of Summer and The Smell of Spring to see what scents are highlighted for those seasons. I love that the text is done in a verse-like rhyming format, and the illustrations are cute and engaging. Perfect for young children. I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author, however, all opinions are my own.

My little girl has enjoyed all of the other books in this series, and The Smell of Fall was no exception. We enjoyed spotting April’s pets in the illustrations, and noticing all the different things there were to smell. A few pages featured things that are unfamiliar where we live; we don’t have crunchy dried leaves to shuffle through, and Thanksgiving Day is not celebrated here. There were other pages, though, that were quite familiar, such as flowers and fresh-baked bread. This book is a delightful celebration of the sense of smell, and the season of fall.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

If you have a visually impaired child in your life that you can read to, or you want to teach your children to better understand those who are different than them, I highly recommend this adorable picture book from Mary Ann Hake. A sweet, creative, unique concept of describing the season of Fall through the sense of smell. You and your children can experience the seasons through the nose of a blind girl, who takes us on a wonderful journey to show us how beautiful the world can be, even when we can’t use our eyes. This book will remind us how much the sighted take for granted with adorable illustrations and creative prose. “See” the Fall Season in a way you never have before!

Another sweet book on the seasons to go with The Smell of Spring and The Smell of Summer. This book has smells such as popcorn at the football game, dead leaves crunching underfoot, corn mazes at a pumpkin farm, and, of course, Thanksgiving dinner. A great read aloud for young children which can easily become interactive as kids discuss their favorite smells of the season and compare theirs with those of the girl in the book. A great lead-in to a discussion of blindness and how we can appreciate senses besides sight. And I love that the blind girl is not presented as missing out on life, but as appreciating the blessings she enjoys.

the smell can be heard and felt

I love how the descriptions of the senses use words that make you think and feel; using “out of the ordinary” words. The variety of smells that lead the main character to find the treasures in her day are quite a gift. It’s a great addition to the other 2 books of the series.
