Novellas are hard to get right because you have to squeeze a fully developed story into a shorter page count and this one didn't totally work for me.
I found the set up weird because we're dropped into the story after the characters have been broken up for 2 months and they had only been dating for 3 months before that. *Spoilers* Pre-break up they were essentially living together, he was planning to propose and already bought a ring, but when she broke up with him he didn't go to extreme lengths to really figure out why and she didn't tell him the real reason which she acknowledges later was dumb. So it was very insta-love which I can be on board with, but I didn't believe in their love because we didn't see the build up we were just told how they felt about each other.
I spent the beginning of this book just confused about why they broke up, what the hell was going on, etc. The plot was trying to be very mysterious with hidden enemies, but it was pretty obvious to me who the big bad was.
Idk like I said this was fine for a quick read, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I just picked it up to because a novella was the perfect length to read today before a new release I'd been waiting for came out at midnight

Then around 30% and for most of the book I thought 4-stars, but towards the end the h was just making to many annoying decisions, and the plot was messy so we were down to 3 stars. The inconsistencies were just too much. People would say something and then a chapter later they acted like they'd never heard of that thing and have totally different feelings about it. There was a lot of repetition where I feel like a good editor could have helped a lot. It felt like the writer took a break from writing and then came back, but didn't really orient themselves with where they were in the story so they just rewrote the same information, but with a different take on it making it confusing and frustrating. The h made up so much shit and never communicated with the H so they just got into fights. Everything just started to feel way too contrived, like the author was just making them fight because it was that time in the book so obviously they have to fight before they get back together but she didn't really have anything for them to fight about so everyone just looks dumb. Also sidenote but all her fainting, puking, and intolerance for fighting even though she's supposedly some badass human was a little annoying. Then at the end... that bathroom scene with Envi? Totally didn't need to happen... Definitely should've been edited out. Why at 85-90% in the book does she need to suddenly become best friends with a human? The twins had already sufficiently been seeded for their own books/future plot lines so it felt extraneous. That scene should've taken place in Envi's book not in the middle of Kol and Nova's "big misunderstanding"/climax. It was just annoying af and distracting from the meat of the plot at the end of the book. Overall, I still mostly liked this it just fell apart for me slowly throughout the most of the novel and then all at once. I honestly was thinking they were getting more than one book with how messy the very end of this shit got. Oh well.

I flew through the first two books which also weren’t great but they were fun and it was nice to want to read all the time again. However, once she started getting with the boys in book 3 it became less interesting somehow. I just feel like the relationship progression was really bad. I kept reading basically to see how it all worked out but I wasn’t enthused anymore and the resolution was lack luster. She’s barely spoken to Tristan for like 2 books now, Windsor was such a random addition to the harem and even by the end she still barely knows him and their relationship still makes the least sense of them all. I just wanted more. Their dynamics as a group and why they’re obsessed with her individually don’t make sense, I wanted more of the 6 of them together and we never got that.
The bullying drama was lame. The Charlie situation which has been draaaagged out and it sucked. Same with the Lizzie situation…such a random story arc and the Myron thing...huh. The writing just isn’t good, soz. There was shit Marnye learned last book that she was acting like was new info this book, just lazy stuff. Now I basically just have to read the last book to see wtf happens but I’m not all that excited after this one. We finally have some relationship progress but it’s all very stilted and secretive and random who she gets with and doesn’t. She’ll sleep with someone because they invited her on a date but then no one else takes that initiative even though she literally spelled it out. Her girl best friend is in love with her and I thought this harem was getting real wild but psych she’s not into girls so that just felt really random and annoying. Like does absolutely everyone have to be in love with her? What she already has going on doesn’t make any sense, let’s chill. Also the bullying is at an all time low lol. The girls are supposedly a threat but it’s all very calm and chill except for like one random thing here or there that goes nowhere. Boring. I also hate the pacing of these books, scenes just end right in the middle of good stuff and pick up days or weeks later.
Pet peeve/rant, but I hatttte these prologues. Just started book 4 and finally skipped it because idk as someone who generally doesn’t like prologues I’m not an expert, but I feel like they’re usually not just the last few pages of the book you’re reading? It can be an excerpt from a crazy moment later on but every time it’s literally just the end of the book. If I wanted to be one of those freaks who reads the last few pages of the book before I starting them I’d just do that (sorry to all you freaks but wtf lol), but I don’t like spoilers. These “prologues” suck. Anyway I could rant about these books forever, they’re kinda entertaining but not well written and totally insane but somehow I’m addicted and actually spending all my free moments reading again so can’t be too mad. Excited to be done though because my interest is really fading ...more

I was going to round up to 3 stars, but honestly this wasn’t great and I’m not feeling it.
The idea of a human crash landing on an unwelcoming alien planet and owing a debt to an alien whose hates humans for good reason was a fun premise, but it was poorly executed. I always kind of bemoan this author for ending her books before we reach the alien planets, but maybe that was a blessing in disguise because based off this one she doesn’t have the world building skills to make it interesting…sorry. A whole planet with various alien races, politics, leaders, cities, a way of life, etc seemed to be too big a scope for her and she just did the bare minimum and nothing felt fleshed out or real. There were also just some bad writing things and stuff that didn’t make sense that I’m not used to from her. As usual, the alien hero was very alien and I’m cool with that, but I didn’t super believe in their attraction and eventual love for each other as I have in her other books. Sigh. This was short and somewhat entertaining, but not memorable and I definitely could’ve skipped it.

While there was still a large age gap the taboo-ness felt more on even footing because they were both attracted to their step sibling and fucking around with them and it was fun. I didn’t love how the cam-girl thing was handled. That was almost over before it began and I think more fun could’ve been had there especially with the voyuer angle. But the majority of the book was entertaining until it all kind of fell apart for me at the end after the big ‘Drake’ reveal. I really did not like the representation of depression and suicide in this book. The H basically willed it away for a decade ...more
The premise of this was really exciting to me because I’ve read and loved a few books where the heroine is pregnant with another man’s baby 3.75 stars
The premise of this was really exciting to me because I’ve read and loved a few books where the heroine is pregnant with another man’s baby when she meets the hero. And this added the PNR aspect of the h not even knowing she was pregnant or why and danger surrounding what people wanted her baby for. I also just love this series and was excited for another Psy-Changeling pairing.
Life got busy and this took a lot longer to read than it would have otherwise, but I also think the slow burn nature of this made it easier to put down and come back to. I loved that Auden was pregnant, however, she was pregnant most of the book and Remi refused to go there which lead to their relationship development being very slow. The were also so clueless about everything happening to Auden and her baby for way, way too long. I was also anxious to meet her baby and how cute that would be so I wish all of that had happened earlier on and more of the plot like finding out why and who could’ve occurred after the birth so the relationship didn’t feel so rush at the end and we weren’t left in the dark so long.
Also, Nalini is the queen of world building in my eyes. I love the world she’s built here and the forethought she put into the series. Breadcrumbs in book 1 came to fruition in book 10, it’s amazing to see how intricate and thought out everything is. However, this book was the first time the world building felt a bit weak to me ...more

They're both in relationships with awful people and like randomly/not super openly but like also very openly attracted to each other and act on it a little once/essentially cheat on their significant others...so I was just not into it at all.
I do find her wacky h's to be kind of endearing and funny sometimes and this one with her OTT behavior was amusing but also a little too ridiculous with no grounding or real basis for her outlandish behavior.
Then like the last thing I’ll say is that the H has the worst, sleaziest "best friend" ever. And he’s who is essential for the setup of the billionaire ending up as the replacement for her fake date from an app which is just all so ridiculous and dumb that that’s how they finally spend time together again?
Oh and actually, what’s the ending? How is the billionaire living in Colorado now? No explanation, but whatevs it’s a short nonsense Christmas novella…details irrelevant I guess...more

I just finally moved into an apartment this past weekend after moving abroad for the first time and struggling to find an apartment for months and then I got Covid. So I haven’t had much time to read and it’s been an interesting and tumultuous week so that might’ve impacted my emotional response to this book lol, but it had me tearing up quite a bit. I only gave this 3 stars cause I did still enjoy it, but idk not as much as book one and I found the plot a bit eh.
That said the steam was steamy, Azazel was romantic as hell and the way he simps for Zoe is unmatched, I love it. Hell, however, was a shit hole as usual and not romanticized at all which I’d personally would prefer. Seems like a really shit place to live and I personally like my PNR romances to have realism, but not that much realism, ya know? Like I get it’s Hell, but man does it sound like a shit existence and I want better for Azazel and Zoe lol. The one cute thing was the hell kittens, nice addition. And as always I love her hellhound and hellcat. Anywayyy I thought there was a tad too much sad and heavy shit on Earth and in Hell. Also Zoe made a few decisions/reacted to things in ways that made no sense. I just wasn’t a fan of all the plot lines we were dragged down.
Then after all the parts that had me crying the last act big twist that should’ve had me super sad had the same emotional reaction as reading a user manual in another language, just didn’t process it at all. I was just like…that’s not real, that didn’t happen. I’m still just operating under the assumption that’s going to be control undo-ed at some point? Right? Like what was the point of that? That couldn’t have just happened and can’t end that way? Why spend all that time building that up to just get rid of it all so quick and inconsequentially. It was weird. Didn’t like. I’m being vague to avoid spoilers but like no, I really liked that person and just no. Then the the verrry end did get me back in my feels for a sec, but the cliffhanger (that I knew was coming) wasn’t as annoying or heartbreaking as I feared so that’s a positive.
But idk overall this book was a bit random. I wanted a bit more world building/character development with relationships in Hell like with Lucifer, I’d like some character growth there or explanations. He’s a moody enigma I don’t understand at all. But this book was mostly just some random fighting, not that well thought out whims of Zoe’s with big consequences and depressing shit. Next book should be interesting. Potentially. Still hoping for some kind of control undo situation cause I really liked that character, but yeah it’s 2am, I stayed up late to finally finish this book and write this rambling nonsensical “review” so I think I’ll end it here ...more

Anything she writes I read (except for some of her early stuff I can’t stand lol) it’s just the rules.
First things first this was way too long. 581 pages is insane, could’ve easily been hundreds of pages shorter. Nothing really happens between the Dax and Addison the entire first half of the book. I get it’s a marriage of convenience, but my god there was no tension or build up, just random sex scenes (that like kind of wanted to be BDSM, but didn’t commit?) and pretty boring day to day life. This was extremely over descriptive ala Kristen Ashley (another favorite author of mine), room descriptions, daily activities, repeating information it was just too much and could’ve done with a good edit so it didn’t end up being so fucking long lol (in addition to just entire unnecessary scenes and plot points being cut).
Dax was touted as this mysterious business man no one fucks with because he’s not entirely on the legal side of things, but aside from beating up a few people off page, (one of which was a teenager) we don’t see or know anything about his illegal dalliances and it just felt pretty lame and lackluster. Also both Dax and Addison have dead exes ...more

This was another freebie from stuff your kindle day. I love a single dad romance and falling for the nanny? Couldn’t be more cliche, but it’s a setup I’m all about. I also love sports romances so the swimming aspect was a nice touch. Unfortunately, I just didn’t really feel their connection for a good majority of the book and then their big 3rd act disagreement was dumb and the h took no responsibility for it being 95% her fault so it was just ridiculous lol but before that point this book was at a solid 2.5 in my eyes so that didn’t affect anything. I rounded up to 3 stars because I love books that heavily feature kids in single parent romances and Tanner was super cute. I just could’ve done with a bit more on the romance front. Them getting together felt random and the taboo-ness of it was never addressed nor did they even discuss the implications of a boss/employee relationship or if they were even in a relationship…idk it was just a bit of a mess for me, still enjoyable somehow though. Oh and also random but this took place in the Bay Area of California where I lived for many years and the author referred to it as “North California” (should be ‘Northern California’) ...more

This was okay. Grumpy(h)/sunshine(H), so I found that pairing fun. The H gives golden retriever energy, he’s just really cute and sweet and hard to get mad at. This has a trope I enjoy (accidental pregnancy) but I just wish the build up between the H and h and the tension afterwards were better. Their lust to like to love progression wasn’t very tangible/believable at times. Idk I just wanted a little more from this.
