While there was still a large age gap the taboo-ness felt more on even footing because they were both attracted to their step sibling and fucking around with them and it was fun. I didn’t love how the cam-girl thing was handled. That was almost over before it began and I think more fun could’ve been had there especially with the voyuer angle. But the majority of the book was entertaining until it all kind of fell apart for me at the end after the big ‘Drake’ reveal. I really did not like the representation of depression and suicide in this book. The H basically willed it away for a decade ...more

The premise of this was really exciting to me because I’ve read and loved a few books where the heroine is pregnant with another man’s baby when she meets the hero. And this added the PNR aspect of the h not even knowing she was pregnant or why and danger surrounding what people wanted her baby for. I also just love this series and was excited for another Psy-Changeling pairing.
Life got busy and this took a lot longer to read than it would have otherwise, but I also think the slow burn nature of this made it easier to put down and come back to. I loved that Auden was pregnant, however, she was pregnant most of the book and Remi refused to go there which lead to their relationship development being very slow. The were also so clueless about everything happening to Auden and her baby for way, way too long. I was also anxious to meet her baby and how cute that would be so I wish all of that had happened earlier on and more of the plot like finding out why and who could’ve occurred after the birth so the relationship didn’t feel so rush at the end and we weren’t left in the dark so long.
Also, Nalini is the queen of world building in my eyes. I love the world she’s built here and the forethought she put into the series. Breadcrumbs in book 1 came to fruition in book 10, it’s amazing to see how intricate and thought out everything is. However, this book was the first time the world building felt a bit weak to me ...more

Those are the rules. This was very middle of the road for her. I liked the arranged mating angle, that was new and fun. Also the h being submissive was a nice change of pace but she honestly wasn’t all that different besides getting left out of some fights. I’d like to see a super sweet h with no bite from SW, that could be fun.
As is typical everything else was the same: life threatening danger this time in the form of a brand new pack that everyone has always known about but they’re only now they’re making trouble for their pack and so the h & H’s lives were endangered no less than 3 times. There was the instalove, ultra possessive, alpha shifter things and the random ultra quirky thing about the h. In this case she has a never ending appetite so much so that she can beat grown men Wolverine shifters in eating contests…...more

I just finally moved into an apartment this past weekend after moving abroad for the first time and struggling to find an apartment for months and then I got Covid. So I haven’t had much time to read and it’s been an interesting and tumultuous week so that might’ve impacted my emotional response to this book lol, but it had me tearing up quite a bit. I only gave this 3 stars cause I did still enjoy it, but idk not as much as book one and I found the plot a bit eh.
That said the steam was steamy, Azazel was romantic as hell and the way he simps for Zoe is unmatched, I love it. Hell, however, was a shit hole as usual and not romanticized at all which I’d personally would prefer. Seems like a really shit place to live and I personally like my PNR romances to have realism, but not that much realism, ya know? Like I get it’s Hell, but man does it sound like a shit existence and I want better for Azazel and Zoe lol. The one cute thing was the hell kittens, nice addition. And as always I love her hellhound and hellcat. Anywayyy I thought there was a tad too much sad and heavy shit on Earth and in Hell. Also Zoe made a few decisions/reacted to things in ways that made no sense. I just wasn’t a fan of all the plot lines we were dragged down.
Then after all the parts that had me crying the last act big twist that should’ve had me super sad had the same emotional reaction as reading a user manual in another language, just didn’t process it at all. I was just like…that’s not real, that didn’t happen. I’m still just operating under the assumption that’s going to be control undo-ed at some point? Right? Like what was the point of that? That couldn’t have just happened and can’t end that way? Why spend all that time building that up to just get rid of it all so quick and inconsequentially. It was weird. Didn’t like. I’m being vague to avoid spoilers but like no, I really liked that person and just no. Then the the verrry end did get me back in my feels for a sec, but the cliffhanger (that I knew was coming) wasn’t as annoying or heartbreaking as I feared so that’s a positive.
But idk overall this book was a bit random. I wanted a bit more world building/character development with relationships in Hell like with Lucifer, I’d like some character growth there or explanations. He’s a moody enigma I don’t understand at all. But this book was mostly just some random fighting, not that well thought out whims of Zoe’s with big consequences and depressing shit. Next book should be interesting. Potentially. Still hoping for some kind of control undo situation cause I really liked that character, but yeah it’s 2am, I stayed up late to finally finish this book and write this rambling nonsensical “review” so I think I’ll end it here ...more

I had no idea this was coming out. The cover and the setting were not anything I was expecting from Cate C. Wells, but since I love so many of her books I was excited to give this a try. I would say this is a mix of Run, Posy, Run by Cate C. Wells and the Unwanted Wife by Natasha Anders, both books I loved. It’s got a wife on the run (RPR) who’s reluctantly/accidentally pregnant (UW) and some decent groveling. Life’s been chaotic for months with no time for reading/huge book slump so being captivated by this book instantly and reading half of it before I had to put it down to go to sleep was so fun to experience again. Then my partner and I got rejected from another apartment in the new country we moved to a month ago and that completely threw me off reading so the second half of the book didn’t get my attention in the same way and I read it over several days, but I still really enjoyed myself. Overall, a short, fun read with a lot of elements I love....more

Can you plagiarize your own novel? I'm kidding, but this is definitely the reprise of The Unwanted Wife and I'm not mad about it because I love that book so much so it was fun to get another novel with a similar vibe. The set up is slightly different, instead of an evil, conniving dad there's a benevolent, loving grandfather. That being said the grandfather's actions aren't always the best and have long reaching reprocussions in this book ...more

Okay we’re back on track. I enjoyed this book much more than book 2. The quorum gave a little structure to the death defying feats Kira accomplished and things felt less chaotic and random. I also liked the character growth and development that happened in this book. We got to see or interact with pretty much every major character and meet a few new important people which was majorly confusing but in the end I found out that was on purpose (still annoying tho lol). A few important things were finally revealed, especially right at the end there was a confirmed long held suspicion of mine so that was fun. The end of this book was also pretty emosh ...more

I rounded down for this one because I just really wanted to differentiate that I thought this wasn’t as good as book one. I still really enjoyed it especially the end, but some of it had me doubting how much I actually loved book one lol. I think starting a series is “easier”, in quotes because I don’t think it’s easy at all and don’t want to downplay it, but the follow through is harder in a series so making things make sense, building on the foundations you laid, etc and I don’t think the follow through was that great. This book felt chaotic and things happened without real explanation, and a lot of it felt very gratuitous and overdone. This was like a mix of Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Throne of Glass, just very much Kira is the underdog (THG) with untold powers that even she doesn’t understand the extent of (TOG) and she’s constantly stumbling into trouble, forcing her to show off and scrape out a win by the skin of her teeth (HP). But she’s playing the long game and has plans no one knows about (TOG) and “governments”/enemies are out to get her making her trials she has to pass in Roake harder than they should be (THG)…I could keep going but you get it. Basically I feel like this book needed to chill a tiny bit. There are other ways to progress the plot than Kira constantly finding danger and showing everyone how impossibly amazing she is every second and inadvertently revealing secrets at a trickle along the way. Don’t get me wrong I’m loving the strong, independent heroine who doesn’t need no man to save her, but I wish there weren’t quite so many life or death situations, it just got redundant. Oh and also the traitor in this book was painfully obvious (as in the last one) and I’m still not super solid on why their betrayal went down the way it did given the consequences it had for others and even themselves ...more
This was…fine. Very predictable and a bit boring though. I acknowledge and like that SW can be quite formulaic in her writing and characters 2.5 stars
This was…fine. Very predictable and a bit boring though. I acknowledge and like that SW can be quite formulaic in her writing and characters and often times that’s comforting, but it’s just not hitting the same in this series. The recycled characters and plot just feels inauthentic. Cain and Wynter say and do all the right things, perfectly and quickly. No tension, no surprises, idk. Everything just moves really fast, and while I can get behind instalove I just don’t feel their love the same as other series/characters.
I did like the brief nod to Lucifer, tying in the loose over-arching world building of her series. Wynter’s coven wasn’t as OTT and annoying as I found them last book. I liked that we finally learned almost all of Cain’s secrets…like kinda interesting, honestly...more

I was craving a PNR series to get lost in so I gave this series another chance because even though I didn't like book 1 everyone says it gets better as you go on and I was really hoping I would love this one, but although it was definitely better than book 1 I still have issues with it and I just think this author/series is probably not for me. That said I did give it 3 stars so I did enjoy it somewhat, I was really hoping the single dad/cute kid angle would do it for me, but I have issues with that too. I don't even a little bit understand his relationship or fascination with his 'wife', Olivia. Right off the bat I was like what man is hopelessly devoted to this woman he's 'in love' with/obsessed with and she's never reciprocated at all like they've never been intimate, but he marries her, raises her child as his own, spends all of his money on her medical bills, etc etc it was like tragic and so fucking weird. But then the authors like oh btw this sad sack of a man is also an impeccable fighter and I'm like oh okay so now he's gone from pushover loser to like powerful hyper masculine fighter no one can beat? Okay, random, but sure. And then in light of like his true past/connection to Inanna his obsession with Olivia made even less sense to me and Olivia was forgotten pretty quick anyways so that whole back story with the wife was random af.
A big reason I can't fully get into these books aside from issues with plot and characters is that I don't like the writing. I can't believe this book came out in 2018 because it reads like one of those really old school bodice rippers and I just can't get behind it. I kind of understand some choices because the heroine is 4,000 years old, but it still didn't fit a lot of the time. I found the third person writing that constantly switched between so many POVs and different storylines a bit impersonal and detached. But back to the old school romance thing, basically the author was constantly writing things like this: "The rush of his seed from his scrotum to his staff, to gush through the mouth at the tumescent crown, brought delayed but satisfying relief to them both." ...like be so fucking for real right now lol The word choices are just mind blowing to me, and let me tell you this woman loves a thesaurus because if you think of any cliche, cringe old school erotica romance word to refer to or describe a sex organ she used it at least once,"turgid" "engorged" "member" "manhood" "glans" "pleasure spot" I don't even know there were too many to remember and I'm like lady just call it a cock and move on. And so their sex scenes are a bit eh to me, but then it really heats up when she starts chewing on this mans cock. Like I'm all for vampire sex fun, but he would be like 'my member is so sore, but she loves it so much so I just keep letting her bite and drink my blood and cum' or something like that and I'm just over here like ...more

It has faint Beauty and the Beast vibes and a very confusing, random magic world building and war backstory that was never really expounded on. The whole curse thing was a little anticlimactic as was the interaction with outside forces and the more crazy random magic that occurs then…I’ll leave it at that so as not to be spoilery, but that being said I did enjoy reading this and the lack of info was necessary for how short this book was. So idk this was mildly interesting and a quick read so I can’t really complain, but I see this is part of a series and I have literally no idea where this would go next but this author does like to jump around to unrelated groups in her other series so perhaps the enemy nation or something? Idk....more

"Now I don't see my idol or my enemy. I see him."
I love soccer and played it growing up so I was excited for another soccer book in this series. This was basically Kulti, but gay. Down to the big age gap and Oliver idolizing/having a crush on Gavin growing up it was veryyy similar vibes...like if Sal was a man and Reiner hadn't quite retired yet you'd get this book and I was here for it, honestly.
Something I really liked about this book was how naturally an MM storyline fit into this series. I wasn't expecting it, some romance readers never read MM and might've been put off/offended by this being included in a up till this point MF series (I'm looking at you Guild Hunter series haters...), but I liked that it wasn't a big deal to all the sudden have an MM book like it wasn't sensationalized or fetishized or cheap it just followed the same pace and feel of the previous books, but with two gay men. I've read some MM and found that a lot of it, especially MM sports romance, has a lot of secrecy, drama and characters not being out of the closet or they didn't know they were gay until they met this person, etc. etc. so it was refreshing that in this book both characters were openly out and proud. I do realize though that for sports romance especially it's more realistic for the characters to be closeted. I just liked that one or both of them coming out was never a point of contention or angst, them being gay was just completely accepted by friends, family and their whole team so the drama that inevitably happens in a romance novel got to focus on them and their issues like in a typical MF romance rather than the fact that they were gay.
I found Gavin's health issues to be a bit anti-climatic and sad, obviously lol I would've liked for that to have had a bigger moment it was kind of like, oh wow, that was it? Okay. But also wtf how was he playing soccer in such extreme pain for so long? The way the author described his chronic pain when not on the field it made no sense to me that he could run and do the things he did, but I'll take her word for it. I liked the depiction of Oliver's anxiety. I found it really realistic and as someone who also suffers from anxiety it's nice to see that represented in fiction. This author is definitely very focused on representing neurodivergent and disabled/chronic health issue characters in her books so it seems like every single character has to have something going on.
I definitely though the next book was already out in this series so I'm bummed I have to wait, but luckily that's coming out next month and it's another soccer one ...more
