Okay so I wasn’t really feeling this book, it’s okay, but the dialogue is cheesy with lots of !! exclamation marks (one of my pet peeves). I was just thinking I’d power through this, but didn’t care much about it and knew it would be a 3-star read max.

However, at 55% in I end up on goodreads and get it spoiled for me that THIS IS A TRILOGY. No fucking way is this storyline interesting enough for three books and there was ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION this was the first of three books which is very shady of the author. The first book in this series is a standalone (which I actually enjoyed and now I'm wondering how that's possible), and apparently she marketed this one as a standalone as well then SUPRISE, there's a cliffhanger ending and now it's a DUET. But then she says SUPRISE AGAIN in book two with ANOTHER cliffhanger ending and turns it into a TRILOGY. That's seriously fucked up. And this storyline gets even worse if that was possible in book two. If for some reason you want to read these three books stop reading now for spoilers.... Grayson and Story get married TO OTHER PEOPLE. And still fuck each other and cheat on each other and their spouses. GREAT. AWESOME ROMANCE. Best of all, Story is married to West, who is Charlotte's (Grayson's wife) brother, the guy that raped Story and took her virginity. Ugggggh WHY. Anyway, thank God I got that spoiled for me and can stop reading this train wreck. I'm out.

I wanted to give this book a go because I found book one of this series to be entertaining with how absurd it was and the premise of this sounded interesting, but unfortunately I don’t like it at all. From the start I found the dialogue especially stood out as really bad. Idk it was all just so cheesy and poorly written. In the middle of a sex scene the h shouts “Wow, you’re really impressive! This is the best night of my life!” Idk is that not just super awkward to read? The H is supposed to be dark and mysterious and has some like big secret but he’s just weird and his inner monologue and the shit he says out loud is just cringe. Idk didn’t like this at all. Didn’t feel anything like book one which was crazy in a fun way so I’m definitely stopping here ...more

The heroine is a 30 yo, poor, tall, broad spinster that no one wants to marry except for a half-orc so he can get elevated status of marrying a 'lady'. My issue is the 30 year old heroine legitimately doesn't even know how sex works at all, is way too innocent and self-sacrificing and I'm not feeling the traditional wedding ceremonies the orc is making her go through. Day one is her getting her clothes ripped off of her in front of all of his men in the hall so they can "inspect" her and make sure she's not defective......more

I did not read this book. I will never read this book. I will never read any book by this author.
But I feel totally justified giving it one star becauseI did not read this book. I will never read this book. I will never read any book by this author.
But I feel totally justified giving it one star because she has blatantly plagiarized one of my favorite books: That Guy by Kim Jones. There is no way this could be played off, scenes are straight up copied with a few words changed and the character names substituted. A teaser she made for this book copied 32 words in a row verbatim from Kim Jones' work. She literally promoted this book with stolen words. Kim Jones has screenshots and has done a live video on facebook about this if you want to see more: Kim Jones Facebook
This is gross and disgusting and SM Soto should be ashamed to call herself an author. Plagiarism is never okay, but really you're going to do that to another indie author? This is not a misunderstanding that can be edited away or excused, it was purposeful and blatant and I can't imagine this is the first time she's done it (I've heard accusations she's done this to other authors as well in the past).
Please don't read this book (or any book by SM Soto) and instead treat yourself to That Guy by Kim Jones. I promise it's amazing....more

Unfortunately this was just really juvenile, the plot didn't keep me engaged and I felt no connection to the characters or storyline. I can't muster up any interest in this anymore and I'm just hate-reading it at this point while constantly checking how much is left so I'm going to stop. Also I thought my "review" of why I DNF'd would be really short but it turned into the longest rant of all time. Oops.
I know I mentioned this in my review of the first book, but I still can't get over the fact that our Hero, a super hot, sexy, all powerful God is named...Shadow. I'm sorry, but that just sucks. It's a cute name for a black cat or dog who's adorable and follows you around everywhere, but for the "Supreme Being" of the Shadow Realm... You name him SHADOW. A name Mera jokingly gave him shortening "Shadow Beast" but then 'Oh, turns out everyone calls him that even his best friend's for thousands of years even though you just made it up'. Also, the H being called 'Shadow' and the h's nickname being "Sunshine" is just a bit too on-the-nose for me. Really? Shadow and Sunshine? Might as well call them Light and Dark. Oh, but wait, Shadow's real name is...Darkor. That's right DARKor. Wow. Very imaginitive and unique and creative.
Moving on, our heroine, Mera or "Sunshine" is just so immature, TSTL, overly dramatic and annoying. I love a sassy, funny, take-no-shit heroine, but Mera misses the mark completely for me and instead just annoys the shit out of me. Her constantly saying "dude" is supposed to be such a rebelious little quirk that makes her ?relateable? and instead is so lame to me ...more
