The format is different since we're dealing with all 4 couples simultaneously. They have to marry each other and fall in love in order to save the world and vanquish the Beast. At first, I got some of the people confused as there are a lot of characters to keep track of. But it eventually all comes together and the story really takes off. Serious steam here with the promise of more to come. Jumping right into book 2...more

Telise is a very strong and independent woman and she's not sure what to make of Raz'jin. Their attraction brings them together despite the Human/Trollkin war but they face quite a few obstacles. I could have done without Telise (view spoiler)[sleeping with her best friend Delakan after she left Raz'jin (hide spoiler)]. This was unnecessary to the plot and I didn't like it!!!...more

I really felt pulled into Tristan's story and the complex world created was amazing.
Hopefully we might get a next-gen book to follow-up on the children like Justus and Atar.

I was transported to the planet Minos and had a great adventure. The king of Minos, Dhega, wants to find a wife so they decide to hold a competition. All the contestants have to go through 9 labyrinths and survive. Jalia is determined to win but she gets more than what she bargained for...she develops feelings for Dhega.
Jalia is a very strong woman and she is full of spunk and snark...but not in a way to become annoying. Dhega puts on a very tough face in order to maintain order on Minos, but he's lonely and he craves love. Both these characters are so deep and layered...it adds so much richness to the story.
The world building is fascinating as well and I couldn't wait to see what the next labyrinth would hold. The best part is that the book doesn't end with the competition, we get to dive down into the planet's politics and how they plan to fit into the whole universe. Wonderful....more

This story really blew me away and was so beautifully written. It takes place on a different pre-industrial world where humans have been slaughtered by demon invaders. We meet poor Brenaith, who is an enslaved soldier, as he is gifted to the Shadow Knight Shaynith-una.
So begins a great tale of gods, demons, elves and humans locked in a fierce battle and Brenaith and Shaynith-una are caught in the middle.

Yes, it's fantasy but there is no magic or weird creatures. This is a love story between the guard Volus and the prince Berhanu. The setting is medieval with lots of swords and guys in tunics (super hot!).
Definitely not your typical romance...I'm not even sure I'd call it a romance. More like a dark military fantasy M/M (or something like that).

This was my first Voinov read and I'm quite impressed with the writing and world building. Great map at the beginning but it's really hard to back to it using a e-reader. I did get a little overwhelmed, however, with all the religious, military and political plots.
I really liked Kendras and the "officer". I tried to like Steel since he saves Kendras' life but in the end, I just couldn't. Widow is kind of a mystery to me.
Will for sure continue on to the next book....more
