Graham Winters, Alpha werewolf of the Silverback pack and mega playboy who suddenly realize3.5 'Big, Bad' Stars
Audiobook Version Narrator: Kate Reading
Graham Winters, Alpha werewolf of the Silverback pack and mega playboy who suddenly realizes he's hit the wall as far a screwing every female werewolf within reach. So, is he ever surprised when one whiff of frumpy, human schoolteacher Missy Roper stops him dead his tracks. It can't be! She, this so-so human in the too tight, too short dress, cannot be his mate! And what's this! She's not falling for him or any of his best moves.
Missy Roper has given up on finding Mr. Right, indeed, Mr. Anybody. She's a meek schoolteacher who has zero confidence when it comes to men. Her BFFs are relentless when it comes to sending her out on pointless dates. In truth, there's currently only one man, or, um, wolf, that she can't ignore. And she's just bumped into him! Boy, is she ever freaked when he sets his sights on her. And the more time they spend together, the more he wants her by his side permanently. She knows he's going to blow her off soon and she'd rather be the one to make that happen, the sooner the better.
Pack politics come into play, making things more difficult for this maybe couple. And it looks like taking things slow is not in the cards for Graham and Missy. It's a mad dash for the pair, and paws are crossed they're not doomed....more

I was skeptical, but I did enjoy the second book in the 'Alpha and Omega' series. My misgivings were that this would focus less on the fragile, yet growing, bond between Anna and Charles and that I'd find myself firmly entrenched in the melodramatic happenings in the 'werewolf Twilight' zone. These misgivings were well-founded. The hurried mating consummation between Anna and Charles lasted all of two, maybe three, lines of text and held all the passion of chirping crickets. Afterwards, Charles felt ZERO connection to Anna and was puzzled as to why their 'mate bond' didn't take. I, however, was NOT knowing their wolves probably slept right through it.
After that, the pair was never alone for long before someone was at the door. Soon, they're rushing through the forest to chase after a murdering rogue wolf and the story ceased to be about them and everything to do with the power of capital 'L' love and the fight between Good and Evil.
Very well-written, I found myself caught up in all of the drama and unable to stop. The number of voices/characters that the narrator inhabited was startling and he held me rapt right up until the very last line. My instinct was to download the next story and immediately continue on. After a breather, I'm not sure, though. This isn't really my genre and I prefer more focus on the couple rather than on the plot. We shall see. I have the next one at the ready and I know if I press play, I'll be lost in the next tale....more

It took a bit to adjust to the narrator, especially Emie's voice. But once I did, I thought he did an OUTSTANDING job. He slipped seamlessly into male and female roles and I was wowed at the different accents. I was seriously impressed. Matter of fact. his performance is why I stayed up ALL night listening straight through. I kept telling myself, "Just one more chapter" until I was finished. 14 books, though? YIPES! That's going to be major investment if I want to buy all of the audiobooks. I wouldn't have the patience to read them now after having heard this one. For this reader, having all the characters come to life will be mandatory.
Anyway, as far as specifics, there are a ton of fab reviews, so I'll keep mine brief. Obviously, I was immediately drawn into the story. I usually have very little patience for loads of tedious, but necessary, world-building in fantasy books--mostly because I have the attention span of a gnat. However, I was impressed at how smoothly the author doled out the information in a way I didn't feel like I was choking on facts--especially when I read romance books for, well, the romance.
In any case, I loved Lachlain to bits. Sure he was a PITA for most of the story, but he was a hot PITA with an unfortunate hair-trigger temper. Plus, there was such a gentle quality beneath all his huffing and puffing. Not to mention a passionate nature that just sizzled. I liked that he was super intelligent and not a furry meat-head. And Emie, she projected herself as this weak, sheltered female, but Lachlain with his bossiness couldn't help push her buttons left and right exposing a dormant fierceness mostly expressed with a witty sarcasm that seriously cracked me up. She was much stronger than anyone in her clan would every believe her to be and I enjoyed watching her character come into her power. The chemistry between L & E was off-the-charts. I must say, though, that when it came down to actually 'doing it' I wasn't as impressed. There was an abundance of foreplay throughout--that I loved--but it never really caught fire after their first very complicated mating. It was 'busy,' but wasn't very HOT, in my opinion. I didn't mind, though, as the focus was more in these characters bonding and tapping into their passion.
I didn't have much patience for these sorts of series, but I admit I'm intrigued. There are quite a few characters I enjoyed and I'd welcome the opportunity to read their stories....more

I enjoyed the first book in the series more. This M/FM relationship seemed a tad more forced or maybe the word is work. And I'll go ahead and say it, I didn't care much about the conflict happening in the story. I was most interested in the 'nuts and bolts' and the 'ins and outs' of the relationship between the trio. Ah, well, they all came together in the end. ;) ...more

Dual POV Shifter Romance Novella Standalone Series
Destined Mate by Katie Reus is a Second-Chance Romance between human to vampire Angela and Knox, a powerful Alpha werewolf.
This is a novella, so there's not much time to fully draw in readers and explore the histories between Knox and Angela. But, it does succeed, if only briefly. Just not as much as it could have, say if it shifted between the past at the pair's first meeting and the very tense present where Angela is caught trespassing on Knox's land. She had no idea it was his property and she genuinely fears for her life. The dual POV allows us to hone in on the misunderstanding between the pair. Indeed, Angel, as she's called by Knox, is certain he will kill her. Even though she has has become a fighter in strength and demeanor in order to protect herself all these years. Her heart is not so strong. Knox is more aware of his undiminished feelings for her and of the wasted years. This loss is very poignant.
Brief, hot and a HEA.

Pretty good. And rates higher because it's not too long. That sounds bad, but I mean it doesn't promise to be more than what it is. A shapeshifter ménage with a suspenseful twist. Oh, and some bondage & spanking thrown in.
Trax is a loner. He goes after bad guys--wolf shifters who turn thug. He's like the law, and he's super controlling and dedicated. He wouldn't have anything to do with women if it wasn't for his Hawaiian shirt and sandals wearing, chill brother, Drake. They share women.as do other members of their pack. It's how they roll.
Along comes, Liz, who has a bone to pick with super thug Couch. The man who raped her mother repeatedly and drove her to commit suicide.
What Liz doesn't know is Couch is a wolf shifter and she just tried to poison him. Now Trax, who has been after Couch for months, must protect her as Couch is after her.
Yep, she's a feisty one and the brothers want her, as in they recognize her as their mate. Maybe it's the wrong time to tell her that. Oh, and they're into control, so they have some training to do.
My gripes:
--Some of the dialogue was just off. I found myself rewording it in my head to make it flow better. Super distracting. --Many times this badly flowing dialogue was during smexy scenes and it kinda ruined them. --The 'play' scenes came off as unnecessarily rough, due to awkward writing. (view spoiler)[--Liz ran hot and cold. Still, she fell in love waaay too easily. Maybe it was just to push the story along. But I felt there were a couple of scenes missing where they all could've bonded. Maybe a stakeout or sharing histories where it NOT sexual. There! That's what I mean. This was 100% sex and not as much emotionally driven. So, I didn't understand how they could call it true love so soon. (hide spoiler)]
Still, I'd recommend it. I'd just finished reading Milly Taiden's Twice the Growl and I couldn't help comparing these two stories. They're both rate the same stars, but TtG had a sense of levity that injected some romance, which was missing here.

Star rating because I read this last month and failed to post it on Goodreads. When I double-checked to make sure I had read it, I didn't get more that one paragraph in before I was "sucked" back in and reread the entire book. Happily! I just loved all of the characters, the history, and the chemistry between Lucien and Leigh. I especially loved the push/pull between them. And, I look forward to reading the next two books in the series....more

Everything you want in a good romance book: --Strong dual POV. You gotta love getting in the head of a 'crushing hard on Madison' vamp. --loads of great characters: Madison--a beautiful, but unaware of it, feisty, independent HS teacher, raising her younger siblings, Jill and Joshua, Ephraim--our brooding, reclusive, but lonely, 200+ year old vampire, who takes one whiff of the intoxicating virgin Madison and knows he's in big trouble. Chris--a PITA and permanently on detention student of Madison's who is such a trouble-maker. Candy--the selfish, sluttish, neglectful mom to Madison, Jill and Joshua, who you love to HATE.
--the thrill of the chase between Madison and Ephraim.
--a great vampire back-story. (I love that much of the vampire lore is old school, incl. wooden stakes and crosses)
--never takes itself too seriously, though the Preface packs quite the emotional punch.
--lastly, and most importantly, the sex is HOT! ;)
Oh, yes, it's a standalone AND a part of a continuing vamp series. ...more

My first audio book. I found it really hard to not get distracted while listening to this. It probably takes practice to be able to focus on the story and do at least one other thing, which I find necessary otherwise I'll fall asleep. A super quick, fun read. It took me just over an hour to finish, but I admit to skimming a bit. It's a double paranormal with werewolves and ghosts. A w/bitch named Clarissa curses two brothers, Derrick and Mark, by turning them into ghosts until they agree to bond with her which would give her more power to wield over the local coven. They refuse her year after year, until pretty and curvy Jenna buys their empty house. They recognize her as their mate and are desperate to make contact with her...in more ways than one....more

I get so emotionally invested in characters and have to come to grips with the fact that they're not real. This is purely by choice, of course. I don't really believe what I just said. I feel lucky to not have to wait to see what happens. Book 3 is here waiting for me to start. My thoughts: so many povs it took me over halfway to care about Cole and Isabel. Grace seemed very flat throughout, though it's explained later on. I miss the passion between her and Sam, just the words love and forever repeated over and over. It is a tale of redemption and a love story written from a zombie's POV. A zombie named R who lives with a small hive of other zombies at an airport. He's different though. He loves Frank Sinatra records and collects human artifacts and decorates the 747 where he "lives" with them. He wants something more than feeding on humans and endlessly riding the escalators as if he has somewhere important to go. And then one day on a feeding run he meets a human named Julie, and he learns all over again what it is to fall in love....more
