The Longest Night <--by Kelly Thompson I've enjoyed Thompson's work on Sabrina. Wish she were still writing it. This could have been a really good story but the whys and hows just aren't there, and it possibly just needed a bit more page time to give the plot a bit of backstory. The skinny gist is that Sabrina and a few friends rescue another witch pal from a baddie. During the holidays.
A Very Spellman Solstice <-- by Danielle Paige The Spellaman aunts tell Sabrina a story about the past. It was also ok but for some reason, the art style didn't do it for me in this one.

I don't think I'd recommend this to anyone who wasn't specifically looking for a Sabrina Holiday Special, but it wasn't terrible....more

Or maybe figure out why she was born with a cape? I don't know. But the mean girls are mean to her because of it.
She meets up with another girl at the school who does a true crime podcast and they end up fighting off Chuthulu together.
Ok, not really. They do end up investigating a string of disappearances on campus. It looks like girls that nobody would miss have...well, gone missing.
Pretty generic all around, and I doubt if I would have even found this if it hadn't been under the Archie label on Hoopla. But to be honest, now I'm kind of curious about the character, so I'm not saying I wouldn't read more about her if I got the chance. We'll see....more

Someone dares you to eat something gross? My answer is no. What's the worst that can happen? I just lost? Oh nos! And fuck no, I'm not telling the truth if the truth is embarrassing. God gave us the ability to lie for a reason. Use it. Basically, this whole comic's scenario is based on the fears of people who played this game with all the earnestness of a toothy youth pastor.
Trula Twyst is the new student with a dark past, and she's set her sights on Jughead. Sort of? I honestly don't get what her end game was other than she was crazy and wanted to cause chaos. But there's a somewhat cool cameo at the end of the comic for longtime fans of Archie.

This is basically everything that's wrong with Archie horror all rolled into one issue. Take a group of characters no one knows or cares about, add a flimsy description of each one on the first page to assign them a role, then proceed to tell a half-assed story that feels like chunks of plot were randomly scooped out by editorial.
The very skinny gist is that three paranormal characters want fame, get into a silly magical slapfight, and something "happens" at the end.

Jughead (The Hunger version) tells them about the time he met Krampus. Poor Krampus.

Cat Got Your Tongue The story of Jólakötturinn, the Yule Cat.
Sheila Wu lives in Iceland but somehow still manages to run afoul of Veronic's sharp tongue. Unfortunately for Ronnie and her asshole friends, it's probably not a good idea to make fun of Sheila's clothes.

Wrath of the Sugar Plum FairyA Christmas fairy takes pity on Reggie after he gets rejected by Midge...again.

Too bad he squanders her gift by being an asshole. Moral of the story: keep an eye on those elves on your shelf, and maybe don't piss them off?

Well, now that Lucifer has escaped and is bringing Hell on Earth into reality, you'd think she'd be thrilled. Turns out, not so much. Does she actually like being a high school principal that much?

Well, no. But she does love making Sabrina's life Hell.
Black Moon Lilith Madam Satan gets reprimanded by Lucifer's lackey and sent to detention. Or more accurately, a torture chamber. While there, she runs into Veronica (now a bird) and she kicks off the storytelling.

Dressed to Kill!

Veronica takes paying for her clothes a bit too far. One of the better shorts. Ronnie goes to a boutique and is told by the hop owner that the item she wants demands something of more value than money. And so it begins. Betty Cooper: Alien Hunter Pretty good short starring Betty (from Jughead The Hunger) finding a spaceship that crashed in Riverdale. She spends the issue pursuing a shapeshifter from outer space to Pop's diner, but everyone in the restaurant is sick of her shenanigans and blows her off. So who's the shapeshifter?

Bingo Wilkin Day Years ago, Bingo made a deal with the devil to stay young and now he wants two of his old high school classmates to help him break the pact and finally age up. Or does he?
A Wrinkle in Time Alexandra Cabot finds a wrinkle and is determined to do whatever it takes to get rid of it. Girl, I feel you. But the story itself was a bit silly, as she ended up using some kind of injection that made her invisible.

At any rate, he certainly doesn't realize that Salem is anything but your average scruffy feline. And that will come back to bite him in the ass, as Salem isn't one to take this sort of insult to himself or any of the other animals lightly.
Don't worry, animal lovers. This guy gets what's coming to him.

I read this as part of the Archie Horror Presents: Chilling Adventures anthology, which is what I would tell you to buy if you're looking to get your money's worth out of these one-shots.

Turns out, bureaucracy might just be what makes Hell...well, Hell. Once the thrill of being in charge wears off, the reality that being in upper management there is just as terrible as anywhere else sets in.

Looking back, Madam Satan realizes that the only time she was ever truly happy was when she was torturing Sabrina back on Earth. Time for a road trip!

The idea is that there are stories about creepy toys (Toy Story!) that connect to the first story in some way. The problem I always have with these Archie Horror one-shots with multiple mini-stories is that none of them are long enough to have any real bite. They end up being a few pages with very little setup, and therefore not enough tension.
The main/beginning story is about a little girl and her favorite doll. The art in this one was the best, I thought. Nice creepy vibe to it. That led into a M3GANesque story about an animatronic doll called CH3RYL. It was ok.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving Killing was (due to the Archie doll's red hair) reminiscent of Chucky, and just about as scary. That one starred the mad scientist Doctor Doom (no, not that one) and his sidekick, Chester.
Which led us back to the first story and some great visuals.
Like I said, I think this could have been a real winner if each of these stories had been given a full issue. As it is, it's not the worst thing I've read from this label....more

Ginger Snapp is an old character from Archie Comics who probably isn't very well known to most modern fans of Riverdale, but she used to have her own comic, and she has continued to pop up every now and then over the years.
Anyway. Ginger rolls in from Hillville to visit the beautiful town of Riverdale. Of course, the friend she has come to visit, along with everyone else in the town is acting super-duper friendly. The alarm bells start to clang when she discovers Veronica's strange aversion to mirrors, followed by a chance meeting with the only resident in town who isn't smiling like a lunatic.

I liked this one. It made sense. And the whole issue was one continuous story, instead of being chopped up into 3 or more mini-stories within the issue. Recommended for fans of Archie Horror. ...more

Jinx is a familiar face for those of us who have been reading the newer horror line, as she is the daughter of Satan and a human woman. Sometimes she's good, sometimes she's bad. And Dani is her BFF.
In this, Jinx is a secondary character and Dani is a genius student that Dilton competes with during this issue. Now, most of the competition is in Dilton's head, as Dani has made some major changes in her life and is focusing more of her energy on her shitty garage band with Jinx.
The story starts with Dilton trapped (in time?) after futzing around with one of Dani's science fair projects, and Dani and Jinx going off to save him. Of course, things may not be what they seem as Dani's past literally comes out of the closet to attack her at one point.
Your personal mileage will vary, but I thought it was touching and sweet without being overbearing.

Most of what's recently come out has been incredibly stupid one-shots with very little background into what the characters are doing in the various plots, heavily relying on people like me who are desperate for a bit of twisted nostalgia and willing to buy any of their drivel as long as there's a kid from Riverdale involved. Not so much with the Madam Satan stuff. It's not all fantastic, but it is at least a linear story.
So this continues from Madam Satan (One-Shot) #1 & Chilling Adventures in Sorcery, which saw Madam Satan seduce Lucifer, kill Lucifer, take over hell, get bored, leave Hell, and then find herself in the hot seat when Lucifer brings Hell to Earth. Some spoilery stuff happens, she meets Jinx, and the two of them try to conjure up some help from elder gods (or something?) in an effort to save the world.

If you also think it sounds a bit like a FNAF rip-off, you'd be correct. But then he also gets sucked into a video game. <--and it's happened before? This made very little sense and wasn't at all fleshed out, even for a short.
Jughead Midnight Snack A bit better in the sense that at least this story sort of makes sense.
The gist is that Jughead's gluttony comes back to bite him in the ass. Or maybe just bite him in general.

Eventually, Madam Satan makes it out of the gates. But there's a twist! <--because it's not like she's going to get a HEA.

I love how the story touches on all kinds of issues while keeping that low level of horror just under the surface to make you wonder who the real monsters are in the world. Personally, I think this was one of the best issues of Afterlife With Archie.
This, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, are maybe two of the best unfinished comics out there. And I'm not sure why they haven't gone back and finished Afterlife, but it's a complete bummer because this was one of the few Archie Horror comics that was really worth it.

Reggie, who kicked off the zombie apocalypse by hitting Hot Dog with his car, tells his side of the story. And he's not always sympathetic. He's jealous of Archie's loving family, jealous of Jughead's ease with himself, and jealous of Moose for getting the girl he has always wanted.
