It all started with a hike…

Cady Jackson’s vacation plans were simple. Go to Yellowstone National Park, enjoy the scenery, take lots of pictures. She and her cousin, Ashley, have grown up in a strict, conservative Christian family in upstate New York. Cady has never been encouraged to spread her wings. This trip is an opportunity to do so. Only, she doesn’t know how much her life is about to change when she has an unfortunate encounter in the middle of nowhere.

Why would God take a personal interest in someone like her?

Grant McClintoch generally loves his job as a ranger in the oldest national park in the country. That it includes rescuing stranded visitors to the park is unfortunate. He has been trying to rebuild his life after it had nearly been destroyed. Grant doesn't realize that God isn't done with him yet when he stumbles onto an injured hiker.

But can he place his past in God’s capable hands where it belongs?

Anne Perreault

Anne Perreault was born and raised in Germany. Her family moved to a very obscure city in the Middle East by the name of Dubai, where she spent the next ten years on and off. During this time, she discovered her passion for ice skating, trained, rode, and fell off high spirited Arabian horses, and collected an assortment of stray cats that found their way into their yard. She attended an American boarding school in Austria. After graduating, she moved to England for a year to start her college education. After meeting her husband, she moved to the US and finished her undergraduate degree in Biology in NH. The couple married and moved to CT to start a family. During the next fifteen years, Anne was busy raising three wonderful children, teaching horseback riding, homeschooling her kids, starting a therapeutic riding center with a group of church friends after becoming a certified instructor, and gaining her masters in teaching secondary education. Because she wasn't busy enough and didn't have enough going on, she prayed for an adventure. God stirred the pot of her comfortable life by first sending her husband to Iraq for two years. After his return, the family moved to VT where they are building a little house in the woods together. Anne started writing late in life when she heard God's suggestion. It took a while to obey but she's enjoyed writing stories that point that God cares, that He is available for anyone - no matter what they have done.

This is not your average Christian novel. Our heroine isn't just the typical sheltered, naive girl; her background is much more complicated- maybe even borderline cultist- than that. And the brooding hero has more than a good reason to be so. But when the Grand Canyon- through a greater power- thrusts these two wounded and searching souls together, they find that they want something that completely derails their plans for their lives- but that's far from the same as derailing God's plans for their lives.

A compelling novel with themes one doesn't normally see explored. The hero's backstory did make me cry, so be warned there. But otherwise, an excellent book for someone who wants a clean romance with depth.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but was not required to give a favorable review.

I’m still not sure what I think of this book. I liked it, but some times I didn’t like it as well.
I loved the setting of Yellowstone and enjoyed “visiting” it though the author’s eyes as I’ve never been there in person.
Cady was a sweetheart! I loved her desire to be true to the things she has been taught yet still be open to what God had for her even if that might not be what others thought. Her interactions at the beginning with Grant had me smiling and almost laughing. I loved that she was committed to saving herself for her future husband. Her relationship with her cousin wasn’t always easy, but I liked how Cady was willing to pray for her and encourage her to do the right thing even when Ashley didn’t listen.
Grant was very likable and I enjoyed watching him grow and be willing to honor Cady and her commitments.
There was excitement and danger, but also fun and laughter.
The few scenes that were from Ashley’s perspective felt rather jarring as they weren’t regular and it felt odd to have them suddenly dropped in.

I didn’t like Cady’s parents. I liked that they had taught their daughter to be careful and to keep herself for her future husband, but they were very controlling and treated her like a child when she was actually in her 20s. No, Cady didn’t do right in not telling them some things, but I can’t say that I blame her too much by how controlling they were later. They weren’t even willing to talk with her or listen to her side of things. They jumped to conclusions. They must not have had any real relationship with Cady to begin with if they wouldn’t trust her or even be willing to listen to her. I did get the feeling that her family wasn’t just a conservative family trying to teach their children how to walk with God, but it felt almost like a cult especially them trying to force her to have a meeting with the pastor. My first red flags about her family popped up when Cady thought that praying together before they ate was too intimate to do with a guy, and her realizing that she’d hardly ever seen her parents do it. Wow!
I did like the Christian aspect of the story and the fact that it wasn’t just tossed in to “make it Christian” but it was actually a real part of the story.

There are some hugs and kissing of cheeks or hands. There is mention of someone (not Cady) who slept with a guy but no details were given. Mentions of someone getting shot and blood, but nothing felt graphic.

Desire of the Heart is a lovely story and its realistic characters and beautiful setting kept me intrigued until the very end. Cady Jackson has lived a very sheltered life in New York state and vacationing at Yellowstone National Park seems like a dream but bear encounters and witnessing a man being shot by poachers makes it more like a nightmare. Grant McClintoch is a park ranger who has lost his wife and daughter in a tragic accident. He feels that God has abandoned him and Cady's been taught to strictly abide by God's laws. Is it possible for these two people to find a common ground in their belief?

Much of the romance and adventure in Desire of the Heart takes place at our nation's oldest national park. I've always wanted to visit Yellowstone and I felt like author Anne Perreault was my personal tour guide as she described the scenery around this beautiful place. The first meeting between Cady and Grant was quite unusual and I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop but it is the strong faith element that I especially appreciated. Bible scripture, prayer, and God's grace are mentioned often in the story.

'She wanted God's plan for her life. It wasn't always sticking to the rules her church had set up. There was room for grace and mercy.'

Desire of the Heart is a Christian romance with exciting adventure and a great faith message. It is definitely a book that I'll want to read again!

I tried to get into this story but honestly, I just couldn't. I felt like right off the bat Grant was an unlikeable character and also wasn't written well. Also, I did not understand at all why he and Cady were so upset with each other from the start.
Maybe it was just my mood, but I decided I had other books I would rather read.

On vacation in Yellowstone National Park, Cady Jackson and her cousin, Ashely, take in the spectacular sights, but when an accident occurs, Cady gets carried away, literally, by two handsome men.

Unused to the attentions of the opposite sex, ultra-conservative Cady keeps the “hounds” at bay. However, Ashley falls quickly for Clint, a western cowboy, and is tempted to set aside her tight morals the cousins were raised with.

Ranger Grant McClintock, one of her rescuers, checks up on Cady after her accident, and Cady lowers her guard enough to get to know him. Grant, bearing a grief he thought he’d never recover from, finds his heart drawn to the feisty, natural beauty Cady exemplifies. As their hearts grow closer, family tensions and a tragic accident threatens to separate them.

Will Cady and Grant trust in God’s timing and purpose for their future? Will the opposition, guilt, and misunderstanding from Cady’s family be great enough to split Grant and Cady apart or only serve to draw them closer together?

How will Ashley react when her world tips upside down? Her story continues in book two in the Yellowstone series.

Desire of the Heart is an unusual, Godly tale of true love within boundaries and rising above the past to embrace the future. Readers of Christian Romance and Christian contemporary fiction will be pulled into the story by the growing feelings of Cady and Grant and their desire to submit their lives to God. A good smattering of adventure and suspense awaits readers as well.

Perrault has a way of making the characters and the challenges they face real and is skilled at crafting individual, unique traits for her characters, which make them stand out from the crowd.

Although I don’t usually read romance or contemporary Christian fiction, I enjoyed this sweet, well-crafted tale and can easily give it a five-star rating.

This is another great book by Anne!! Love this story of Grant and Cady! Cady has set definite boundaries because of how she was raised. Some of those are really good, and some of them are definitely too much. However, she does really well with keeping the ones that should be kept, and getting rid of the others. Grant has become locked in his own world, only letting very few people in. When he meets Cady, she gets under his skin. I love that he still had his relationship with God, and it became stronger and one he wanted to honor more in his relationship with Cady. Love the way they banter back and forth, and she makes up cute names for him that are a play on his last name. This book runs the gamut of emotions, and, if you're like me, you'd like to have a stern talking to with a couple of characters, and you'd like to knock Cady's parents heads together, too!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

This was a refreshing story of healing, faith, forgiveness and love. How staying true to your Christian values and relying on God in your relationship can be hard but worth it. How a sprained ankle brings two completely different people together. Cady was a very sheltered homeschooled Christian with strict values, while Grant was a widower who still had not gotten over the loss of his family. Through this budding relationship, they were able to help each other bring out the best in the other. To see beyond each others past and see that they were so much more with God at the center. They foughh6for each other, stood up for, encouraged, joked with, and enjoyed being with each other. Through their eyes and the wonderful description of this amazing author, you see the beauty of Yosemite. I highly recommend this book and Anne Perreault's books.

I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Desire of the Heart is set in the fabulous backdrop of Yellowstone National Park. Anne Perreault’s novel had me smiling from the start with the interaction between the two main characters Cady and Grant. The story moves along beautifully, making the most of the terrain and the character development. I’m so glad there are more books in this series as I want to know what happens next!

This story is so well written I hated it to end. The author takes us to Yellowstone National Park and I felt I was right there among the trees. I enjoyed learning about the park and all it has to offer. I wasn’t real thrilled about bear sightings but after all we are on their land. Let the adventure begin.

Let’s start with Cady. She has grown up in a very strict home and her feelings on falling in love are mixed up. Her parents have made her feel that she can never make a mistake and has sheltered her from any chance of finding someone to love. Her upbringing does cause her to be a little judgmental at times especially with her cousin Ashley. I’m surprised they took a trip without any supervision. After all their families still treat them like children. The tension that develops between the cousins are due to someone being a bit high and mighty and the other giving in to temptation. This part of the story is worth mentioning because it’s a great example of learning to forgive and look past a sin to give grace.

The story really gets good when Cady meets the handsome Park Ranger Grant. He is quite upset to find her out by herself injured . I did enjoy their banter as he insists on taking her to get looked at. Seeing a bear would scare me and Cady was so lucky she wasn’t attacked by him. Grant is certainly not looking for a relationship but God may have other plans. As we slowly find out about his past, I understood why he was so hesitant to keep his feelings in check.

I loved how the author showed a young woman who needed to branch out on her own and trust God. Her parents made me angry by the way they never trusted her. I felt like she was living in a home where she was seen but not heard. Cady girl you need to start relying on God to direct your path, and stop worrying about making mistakes. I was so hoping she would soften up and give her concerns to God.

Grant is still feeling guilty over a tragic loss and won’t allow anyone to capture his attention. But what happens when these two people start to pray, open up to each other and trust God? The story is filled with faith and I loved seeing how several characters grew and began to be set free from their past and learn to forgive people who have judged them.

There is a little danger in the story that I felt was the perfect addition to draw Cady and Grant closer to each other and God. They both seek God to show them His plans for their lives. Oh it’s an emotional journey of love, forgiveness and trust. I am so excited to learn that there is a second book to follow.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

I found it very interesting that Desire of the Heart by Anne Perreault had the theme of saving PDA and more for after marriage. Cady Jackson was reared very strictly by her parents and clung to the same guidelines that her parents --shoved down her throat-- taught her. Grant McClintoch, who became a Christian as a young adult, respected her boundaries. OK, I have to say that my snarky little "shoved down her throat" was probably a little unkind, but that was the impression I got from her parents -- that they were authoritarian to the extreme. I know they were well-meaning -- what parents do not want to teach their children principles that will protect them? -- but they really came across as over-the-top crazy strict with little feelings for their daughter. That's probably my biggest complaint about the book. I know these people exist (not her parents, but other real people), but I wish we could have seen a little bit more caring humanity from them before experiencing the harshness. On a positive note, it helps me to know how NOT to teach and rear my daughter.

I really loved the setting of the book. That was what lured me into choosing this book to review. Celebrate Lit kindly gave me a copy to read. I have never been to Yellowstone National Park, but I would love to go. I was surprised to find out that the author has not been there; the descriptions made it feel like I was there with Cady and Grant. I enjoyed the characters and their personalities. Cady, while coming across as naive (which she is to some degree) also has great inner strength that comes out later. Grant overcomes heartache in the book and proves himself to be a man of integrity and wisdom. I really liked what he said to Cady about her parents: "Your parents have done a great job raising you, Cady-girl. They wanted to protect you from making mistakes. I respect that. If I were in their shoes, I'd do the same thing." It takes a wise man to see beyond the surface and recognize that and to treat them with respect.

What a great book from a new-to-me-author! I've been seeing this author's books online for a while now and I was really interested in them but hadn't yet had a chance to read one, so needless to say I jumped at the chance to request a review copy of this one! I was first drawn to this book by it's absolutely gorgeous cover, and I'm thrilled to say that the story inside is every bit as beautiful as the cover! I liked Cady instantly, I was cheering her on from the beginning. I loved watching her discover (for the first time really) grace and the depth of God's love for His children, while still holding to her conviction to save her first kiss for her wedding day. I made the same commitment as a teen, and am still waiting for the man I believe God created with me in my mind to come into my life, and this story gave me hope for my own future happily ever after!
Grant was an awesome hero, he totally made me melt!
I loved all the nicknames that Cady came up with for Grant, my personal favorite being: Ranger McSmooth.
This engaging romance held me captivated throughout, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
I highly recommend Desire of the Heart, and especially if you are a fan of Christian romances that focus on more than just physical attraction this is a story you don't want to miss!
I look forward to reading the rest of the Yellowstone Series!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher which did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
It all started with a hike…

MY TAKE
This is an overtly Christian love story, so if that's not your thing this won't be the book for you. BUT if you're open to learning how others think even if you don't agree, the story is full of beautiful writing, engaging characters, and Yellowstone!

Cady was raised in a very strict denomination of Christianity. She's twenty-four when she heads out on her first trip away from her controlling family, along with her cousin Ashley. While Ashley goes wild, saying she's not sure she believes anymore, Cady still does. She's might chaff at some of the strictures, but she retains her faith and the belief that God will guide her.

Grant is several years older than Cady and has been married before. He's suffered much, but he's pulled himself together with the help of loving friends and faith in God. But his heart isn't healed yet. He's so focused on his work as a ranger that he gets really impatient with Cady when he first meets her. It's a hilarious meet cute, and eventually shows that both of them have a sense of humor.

It's kind of insta-love in that they both decide fairly early on that they're in love with each other. But the book spans several months, some of it taking place when Cady is back home, so they each have time to get to know each other.

A lovely Christian romance.

I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator did a great job!

Wow, just WOW! I have never read a book by Anne Perreault and I am
just blown away by the writing style and genre of Desire of the Heart, the
first book of a new series, Yellowstone.

Cady, who grew up in a Conservative Christian Household, decides to take
a trip to Yellowstone National Park. She has never been on such an adventure
and is looking forward to days of hiking and enjoying the scenery. Grant, the Park
Ranger, comes upon Cady on the hiking trail and realizes she is injured. He insists
on helping her to get to safety and get treated for her injuries. Cady at first resists,
but after a few minutes agrees. Grant is also a recent widow, losing his wife and
daughter in a tragic accident. Neither Cady or Grant are seeking a relationship,
although they seem to be forming a strong friendship. Will there be a Romance
on the horizon? Can they each work through their "baggage" of their lives?

I really LOVE how strong the Christian Values are in this Romance novel. It
isn't a "typical" Romance Novel. The storyline and Characters are AMAZING
and I was reeled into the book from the very beginning and didn't stop
until I was done reading the entire book. I am very much looking forward to
Book 2 in this series! FANTASTIC BOOK!

This is a wonderful read. I really felt for Cady. Sometimes I think we all have those feelings of doubt. Of why would God bother with someone like me. Her character is easy to relate to and makes you want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen next.

Within Desire of the Heart, there is slight suspense but also romance. The setting is gorgeous and though I’ve never been I now feel like I have even though I still want to go and experience it myself.

Grant has had a hard time with life and he is just trying to get his life back together. Can he do that and trust God? What is his role in all of this? And why does he have to be the one to rescue Cady?

Loved reading this book. Excited to see that it is a series and can’t wait to read more!

As this author was new to me, I was not sure whether this novel would be to my liking. I am pleased to say that I will be reading creations by her again!!
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute that was spent in Yellowstone National Park! Yes, I was so engrossed that my life became quickly entwined with all of the wonderful characters.

The characters were so detailed and realistically described that they quickly became my new best friends. They met with many of the same challenges as you and I. Temptations were in abundance. I kept wondering how strong their faith was. Would they succeed in following the Lord???

The setting was perfect for this story. What a truly interesting place to be!! The descriptions had me living there, even if it was only for a short time.

The plot moved at a good pace with unexpected twists and turns that keep the reader glued to the page. You just have to find out what will happen next!!

I am eagerly awaiting the next book in Anne's series, " For Better or For Worse"! So glad to have found another great author to provide me with an escape from reality!!

This book was received from the author. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

Within the grandeur of Yellowstone park is a story of romance that Anne Perreault has created in her Christian novel “Desire of the Heart”.

A hike is something most want to do when visiting Yellowstone park. It is unusual to find love on the trail, except love of beauty and nature that one is surrounded by in a national park. But into one’s life Cupid’s arrow may fall no matter where they are. A young woman finds this to be true when she is rescued by a handsome ranger. But personalities clash and fight and snip at the edges of attraction. Where will this relationship go? Praying and listening to God’s wisdom may not lead to what this young woman thought!

Perreault has a magical way of describing the beauty of Yellowstone that had me dreaming of being within the park’s boarders. Her story is interspersed with how one leans on their faith to help guid them to where they should be. They characters are easy to love and cheer for through their dilemmas.

Let your heart lead you to this book! Everyone can find something to love between the pages of this wonderful novel!

This contemporary adventure romance reads like a Young Adult novel, but older readers will enjoy it too—even seniors like me. Set against the stunning backdrop of Yellowstone National Park, we experience the magnificent scenery and interaction with wildlife through the eyes of the young female protagonist, Cady Jackson, and the park ranger who rescues her. Cady and her cousin, Ashley, seek to explore life outside the confines of their ultra-conservative upbringing. Cady continues to guard her heart and enjoy photographing nature, unlike Ashley, who tests the limits that bound her all her life.

Ranger Grant McClintoch isn’t looking for a relationship but this sweet young woman intrigues him. I’m so glad he respected Cady’s boundaries and for the way the author honestly portrayed their blossoming relationship. The story contains plenty of danger—physically and emotionally. It’s refreshing to read about a character who stands on her principles and doesn’t give in to the way “everyone” does things. I recommend the book for older teens and up. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

Filled with faith, some wonderful one-liners, and interesting characters this book was enjoyable to read. Perhaps because my husband and children love delivering one-liners, I really appreciated that aspect of this book. The author includes the use of faith, forgiveness, and more in her plot. God always being with us rings true for me, and I respect how the author included that piece in this book.

The author impressed me with the descriptions of the scenery and backdrop of where the story is taking place. Grant and Cady encounter each other at the beginning of the book and sparks fly. Between park rangers, a fireman, and more this story comes to life. So check it out for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Desire of the Heart by Anne Perreault is book one in the Yellowstone series. This is a new to me author, and I am so glad that I got a chance to review this book. The author had be drawn in within the first few pages. I was heavily invested with the characters and their story. Main character Cady is unique character. She grew up very sheltered. However, she is struggling to why God would be interested in her. Have you ever felt that way? I remember feeling that way and sometimes today. Main male character, Grant, is a ranger in the Yellowstone park. He is a widower and still carries some baggage round with that. Grant and Cady meet because Cady is visiting the park, and is by herself and gets injured. It was fun to see how their relationship grows.

I want to insert this side note. I have never had the opportunity to visit Yellowstone. However, given the authors description of the scenes I really got a great picture of what it would be like to visit. The author has done a lot of research to bring this scenery to life.

Back to Cady and Grant. Cady had a weird view of what falling in love was. Grant isn't sure if he could open his heart again. I loved how the author wrote their story. It was sweet. Be prepared to spend time reading - you will not want to put it down when you start reading.

I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit blogging program - all thoughts are my own.

What a story!!

I have laughed out loud and cried out loud with Cady and Grant! I feel like I was right there when they met and with them through every bump in the road. I love books that make the characters become real to you and when you are finished with the book, you’re like, where did they go! I can’t wait to get started on the second book in this series.... gotta a book to read! Bye

This was a really good book and I loved the way the author handled certain, atypical aspects of it. Cady's years growing up weren't what we would consider typical. Her family was really, really strict and almost like a cult. I wasn't a fan of that, but the author handled it well and letting Cady experience life while still having boundaries was good. She didn't just 'throw away' everything she was taught, but more used the basis to better her life.

Grant is a great guy. He has a history and a past as well. He is a bit closed off, but I love that he still has a relationship with God. This is absolutely a book about God putting two people together and I loved it. Very sweet and their personalities just shine.

It was a 5/5 for me.

Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Two girls Ashley and Cady take a trip to Yellowstone just to get away from their strict religious upbringing
and have a girls trip so they could have a little freedom. While hiking on a trail alone Cady meets a bear and on trying to get away she has a fall and Ranger Grant comes to her rescue and the two of them develop strong feelings for each other and Cadys family make things difficult.

This was the first book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be the last. I can’t wait for the sequel because this book had it all: biblical truths woven throughout, a great storyline, humor, drama, and romance. I love that their story continues in Book #2, those are some of my favorite books. I love how Cady, and Grant, both grow in this book. I love how these characters are real to life and could be my neighbors. I loved this book and will be telling many of my friends they need to get a copy of their own.

This was a wonderful clean story and so glad I read this story. I loved reading about Cady and Grant very much especially all the different challenges they both had. This story flows so well and love the message of waiting for the right person to come along even though it is hard. I will definitely read more by this author.

This is the third Anne Perreault book I have read and again I was not disappointed in anything except that it ended. The sequel comes out soon and I look forward to reading more. There is a combination of purity and fire in the female leads and integrity and character in the male interest. There is a light hearted string that weaves its way through as they discover love and grace and the importance of not just existing but truly living.

Fun characters, lots of interesting banter, exciting moments, and a thread of purity and honesty with God adds up to a good read. Well-written, fun book.

The reason that I chose to read this book was due to the fact that we will soon be vacationing in the Yellowstone area. I was just expecting a fluff romance with a little Yellowstone thrown in. This book was so much more. It dealt with growing and expanding your life in the Lord, living in His way - but not necessarily the way of a specific church, falling in love, tragedy and overcoming all types of obstacles. It kept me up reading until the end and I am anxiously awaiting another book in the series as hinted at the end of the book. And there were unexpected places that were laugh-out-loud funny.

Desire of the Heart is the beginning of the Yellowstone series, as well as, the first book I have read by Anne Perreault. It will not be the last. I thought this was a fun, heart warming, and delightful book. It had some beautiful life lessons of how to forgive and heal. There were some great moments that made me laugh out loud. The setting was gorgeous and the characters were relatable. I felt like I was part of the story and right there living among the story.

I am giving Desire of the Heart four and a half stars. I look forward to the next installment from the Yellowstone series, For Better or For Worse. I recommend this one for readers who enjoy faith filled and inspiring reads that is oh so good for the soul.

I received Desire of the Heart from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
