Oh. My. Word.

I am REELING.

I am sitting here with my thoughts spinning, with my heart pounding, with my breath slowly returning to a normal rhythm. I am sitting here with absolutely no idea how to even BEGIN to put thoughts down about what I just experienced on these pages. I am sitting here in awe, in stunned silence, in utter disbelief as I reflect back on the MASTERPIECE that is Hook Shot. This book was nothing short of PHENOMENAL and I'm honest to God astonished over what I've just read.

When I tell you that I DEVOURED this book, it's an understatement. I stayed up far later than I should have last night tearing through these pages. When I realized I needed to call it a night, this book haunted my dreams. It consumed my every waking thought in the moments I had to step away. I have never been so anxious to both finish a book and not finish a book all at once. The layering of this story, the masterful weaving of detail through these pages, the cultivation of the most MAGNIFICENT love story... this was honestly not only a TOP FAVORITE read of this year, but easily one of the most unforgettable, stunning stories I've ever read.

I can't get over Lotus' brokenness. I can't get over Kenan's infuriating divorce, how insane his ex wife was to lose a man like this. I can't get over how much he loves his daughter. I can't get over how devastating this story is at times. I can't get over the chemistry, the burn, the unrelenting attraction. I can't get over the PERFECTION of the dialogue. I can not get over the way Lotus' family history, the magic of her bloodline, is woven through this entire story. I can't get over how damn sexy this book was. I can not stop the highlight reel of unforgettable, soul searing scenes from replaying on a loop in my mind. I can't stop the ache in my heart from surging everytime I think back on these moments... SO MANY BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS. I can barely breathe when I think back on Kenan's notes, his words, his heart. I can not get over this journey, this road to forgiveness, to acceptance, to happiness. I can not get over the MAGIC, the ROMANCE, the heartache. I can not get over what a master storyteller and weaver of words Kennedy Ryan is. Truly, that is what has blown me away the most. Her words. Her prose. Her vibrant writing style and brilliant crafting of these characters that left me GOBSMACKED because I can't get over how unbelievably amazing it all felt. This book is on another level and I will not ever, ever get over it.

Kennedy Ryan once again slays me with her words. Seriously every single book she writes is consistently epic. Hook Shot is a brilliant and beautifully written book that I know will make my top favorites list this year!

Lotus and Kenan’s story is one I’ve been excited to read since they were both introduced in Long Shot. There was something about the two of them, I just knew their story would be fantastic. And I was absolutely right.

Kenan is in NYC for the summer for one reason and one reason alone. Because it's where his daughter is. After a nasty divorce from a cheating exwife, his ex decided to move to NYC to film a reality show and take his daughter, Simone with her. New York is the last place Kenan wants to be. That is until he runs into her. Lotus. Lotus and Kenan know each other through mutual friends (Lotus’s cousin Iris is married to Kenan’s teammate, August) and they’ve met several times. There has always been a spark, but never went past that.
I’ve sworn off men altogether, but so what? I’ve never met a guy I couldn’t resist. How different could Kenan Ross be?

Lotus would run into Kenan right after swearing off sex. But Kenan has had it bad for Lotus for a while now. He’ll settle for her company and friendship. For now anyway. I loved their dates/nondates. Watching Kenan and Lotus fall in love was stunning. It made my heart sing. These two characters were everything.

Kenan is a warrior (it’s his team) but Lotus is the true warrior of this story. She’s a survivor. She’s tough, but soft. Kind, loving, and so so strong. Lotus has to deal with a lot of childhood trauma. She’s getting the help she needs and I admired her for that. I loved the sacrifices she was willing to make and for Kenan and his daughter and her Kenan is an amazing man and father. I could sing his praises all day. Both of these characters were so standout.

This book is unforgettable. It’s unputdownable and a true masterpiece. And my gosh, it’s so gloriously sexy. If you haven’t read a Kennedy Ryan book yet, you need to change that asap. You’re truly missing out on something wonderful. This book touched my heart and gave me so many feels. A spectacular story of love and healing with the most delicious slow burn- this is one you don’t want to miss out on!!!
It’s in Kenan’s arms, in the harbor of his love. That’s the safest place I’ve ever known.

If ‘I Put A Spell On You’ was a book, it would be this one.
It would be because of Kenan and Lotus. It would be because of what Kennedy Ryan has created.

“We’re stretching each other, absorbing each other. We’re falling in love.”

The woman is a poet, okay. She gets to the heart of her stories, the essence of her characters and their lives and they feel so unbelievably real that you are slightly left exhausted afterwards. Because you’re so invested in every way you could possibly be.

Better yet, I’m starring in this story. I’m right there. It’s happening in real-time.

“Look at her now. She arises from her desert of difficulty clinging to her beloved.”
— Song of Solomon 8:5

The woman is a witch when it comes to her craft. She’s unreal.
Lotus and Kenan were unreal.

Fuck you, Kennedy Ryan. I mean that in the most loving way there is.

“I’m a girl he could crush, but everything in the way he looks at me says cherish. Says treasure. Says protect. Says I’m his, too.”

Hook Shot is another thought-provoking, incredible, and powerful story by Kennedy Ryan. The beautiful and breathtaking romance story between two broken people whose pasts taught them to never trust again with their hearts, but whose hearts want something else, something rare and forever with one another.

“I realize it’s not a tree, a city, or a particular place where I find safety. It’s in Kenan’s arms, in the harbor of his love. That’s the safest place I’ve ever known.”

Kennedy Ryan never misses. Her articulateness of writing remarkable and exceptional stories is just amazing. She has a way with words, exploring deep emotions and sensitive topics of real world, weaving a story of love, loss and healing in her thoughtful and incisive narrative. She is truly one of best authors in her genre, her writing remarkable and visceral, immersed me from the very first chapter. The character's development was real and beautiful, made me felt every nuance emotion and connection between Kenan and Lotus.

➸ Lotus DuPree

Lotus is an intelligent, beautiful, talented, badass fashion designer in training working at one of the most popular fashion houses in NYC. She is the complete opposite of Kenan Ross, outgoing, vivacious and the life of every party, and has a peculiar spiritual connection her great-grandmother, Mimi. She is one of the best female protagonists I have read in a while. She is amazing, knows how to voice her opinions, but hides a vulnerable and broken side. Her demons forced her to address her past and deal with her intimacy issues and trauma. She has been through a very dark past and it broke my heart many times, seeing her struggle with her past and trauma, but Kenan with his stoicism and his unwavering belief in Lotus helped her a lot. Her character development throughout the book was slow but done with perfection.

“I weep for every time I’ve felt unloved, unwanted, unnecessary, and imperfect. It’s all there in the look he settles on me. To him, I’m more than enough. I’m all that he wants.”

➸ Kenan Ross

Kenan with his dangerous and intimidating personality is a man of few words, who wants simplicity after being through a bad divorce, but he would do anything for Lotus, even if it meant waiting and showing what it truly meant to be loved to the woman he had fallen for. He knew Lotus was worth it the moment he saw her, but he also didn't wanted to disrupt their lives with his emotional baggage and his complicated relationship with his daughter. I loved how he helped Lotus navigate her feelings and her way through her recovery process, how even though he didn't liked talking, he always sure she knew how much she and her friendship and her trust meant to him. He is a gentleman with the perfect amount of cavenman qualities.

“I need simple,” I repeat. “But I want you.”

: ̗̀➛ Lotus and Kenan

Lotus and Kenan's story is all about trust and healing. Two people who are meant for each other, wanting nothing but simple, but healed all the broken parts just by their patience and kindness. With sizzling chemistry and paths that crossed many times, they formed this unexpected and beautiful friendship, exploring each other, both physically and mentally and in a way no one has ever done before. The slow-burn was exquisitely written, the intimacy issues contructed with delicacy and patience only made me love Kenan and Lotus more.

“We stare at one another across centuries, across continents, across time and space, and I actually believe that I would have found him anywhere. There is no place, no spot on the continuum of time that could have hidden this man from me.”

Their relationship transitioned at a really slow pace, first with navigating their feelings and attraction, then their blooming friendship that felt more than just friendship, then with the slow exploration of each other's body and soul. It was just so beautifully done. I loved the understanding they had, and how they cultivated trust in their relationship by communicating their feelings, it was true testament to their friendship and everything they had build. I also loved how Lotus tried to do best for Kenan's daughter and how she pushed him to do better for her. The found family in this was so precious.

I have found the one whom my soul loves.
My beloved is mine, and I am his. I’m yours, Kenan.

This was an almost perfect book but the drama with Bridget (Kenan's ex-wife) was too much and I was frustrated.

The ending broke me a little. I wasn't expecting that much pain and trauma, but in Kennedy's classic style, it was full of pain, drama and happiness. I liked the emphasis on Lotus and her spiritual connection with her great-grandmother, Mimi. The extended epilogue healed me and left me wanting more of Kenan and Lotus.

Lotus and Kenan are two characters that I've been curious about since Long Shot, so when their story finally landed on my kindle, I could barely contain my excitement. They were everything I knew they would be. Their relationship, like the author's writing, is absolutely beautiful. Emotion is present in every scene, and in true Kennedy Ryan fashion, the story addresses serious topics that are not sugarcoated in any way.

Twenty-five year old Lotus grew up on the bayou in Lousiana with her grandmother, but now she is living her dream in the fashion industry of NYC.

wk2

Kenan is an LA man eleven years her senior with only a few years left of professional basketball until he retires.

hi-5

Due to the fact that her cousin and his teammate are married, they've ran into each other a time or two in the past, and each time, something sparked between them that neither had ever felt before. With their lives on opposite coasts and their connection frightening Lotus more than she would ever admit, they never took their interactions any further.

That all changes when Kenan moves to New York to be near his daughter, Simone, in the off season. Almost as soon as he arrives, his agent asks him to meet with a fashion label regarding modeling a new line of watches at a party. Unaware that Lotus works for the label, he is less than thrilled about it... that is until he lays eyes on her. That party turns into a kiss. That kiss turns into a friendship, and that friendship turns into something neither of them were prepared for.

Hook Shot was one of my most anticipated reads of this year, and just as I predicted, it was another fantastic edition to the Hoops series. More than that, it reminded me why Kennedy Ryan is one of my unicorn authors. Not only is she a brilliant story teller, but her writing style is unlike any other. In all of her books, it's what stands out to me most, and this one was no exception. Each line is packed with so much emotion it's breathtaking at times. On more than a few occasions, I read sentences, sections of dialogue, or full paragraphs over again, because I wanted to make sure that I savored and appreciated them in the way they deserved.

If you're a fan of Kennedy Ryan's previous work and/or contemporary romance and phenomenal writing, this one's for you!

Books like Hook Shot are why I read. An author’s ability to pull me inside the world they’ve created is always impressive. What Kennedy Ryan achieves is something beyond that. I want to live in this world, be friends with these characters, hang out with them on the weekends. The main, as well as, secondary characters are bold and vibrant. The story is poignant and so damn beautiful my heart hurt. I’m still all up in my feelings.

What I loved most:
Lotus, hands down is one of the best characters I’ve read. She’s small in statue, but larger than life. Her spirit shines. She’s real and relatable. I love everything single thing about her. How bold she is, yet vulnerable and struggling. She’s a beautiful contradiction - a rare and beautiful phenomenon. I say “phenomenon” because I’m completely boy crazy. Romance novels, for me are all about how attracted I am to the male lead, but Lo completely steals the show.

“My beloved is mine and I am his,”

That’s not to say that Kenan is in any way a slouch. Nothing could be further from the truth. He’s a man in love with a woman. And gah, what an amazing man he is. Strong, alpha, complicated, and sweet. PURE PERFECTION!

It’s a Kennedy Ryan novel — so do I really have to say the story, writing, and plot are Perfect? Cause they are. Her writing and character development are some of the best I’ve seen in this genre. I know with certainty that if I pick up a book she’s written, I will go on a journey that will leave me with the all the feels. And that’s exactly what she’s delivered in Hook Shot.

I could gush for hours....
Seriously, I really could, but I’ll just simply state, Read This Book! It has my highest recommendation.

I loved, loved, LOVED every second of this book. It has everything I look for in romance. A kickass heroine, a beautifully damaged hero, complex family connections galore, steam, banter and backstory.

This story is tight, well-written and absolutely delicious.

"I have found the one whom my soul loves,” he quotes.

I devoured this book. There is something about Kennedy Ryan’s books that gets me completely hooked. She’s a brilliant author who writes a very poetic sensual realistic books. And this one was no exception.

"My beloved is mine and I am his,” I quote the song over a salty trail of tears, brokenly, truthfully. “Kenan, I’m yours.”

Kenan moves to New York to be near his daughter, Simone. He meets lotus, again, while meeting with a fashion label regarding modeling a new line of watches, and they clicked. However, Simone is in tough place right now, and she is avoiding relationships and swearing off sex, so all she could offer him is friendship which he gladly accepts but made it clear that he wants more.

"That, my beautiful girl,” she’d said, smiling, “is your crown. Your pride. Your self-esteem. The glory of knowing who you are, and that it’s enough. No one has to tell a queen to wear her crown.”

Lotus is a tough strong little thing. She’s so real and relatable. She’s broken, but she works on herself. She doesn’t allow her brokenness and her past to bring her down. She’s so bold, yet so vulnerable. She’s a fighter. A survivor. I couldn’t help but respect her.
Kenan is her equal. He’s so loving. So understanding. And so patient. He’s the perfect father. The perfect lover. The perfect man.

"Of course, you aren’t afraid of the storm,” MiMi had said with a smile. “You are the storm.”

Kennedy Ryan wrote “Grip” which is one of my all time favorite series! When we get to met those characters again in this book, I literally screamed out loud. It was a huge ohmygod moment. This book was so unputdownable, that captivated me completely. Her writing style got me so Hooked. It was a spectacular book about love and healing that touched my heart.

Kennedy Ryan is a brilliant storyteller. So expect a spectacular writing. A well developed plot. Filled with intelligent conversations. An amazing character development. A strong heroine. And a loving caring hero. This book has everything you might be looking for.

"I need simple,” I repeat. “But I want you.”

I’m in a dream like state after finishing Hook Shot. Lotus and Kenan’s story pulled every emotion out of me. I’m spent, drained and so satisfied with their story which I have been anticipating for so long. Kennedy Ryan delivered and exceeded my expectations by a million. That says a lot.

Hook Shot is a delicious slow burn and oh the burn and heat is so damn good. Just simmering beneath the surface whenever Lotus and Kenan are around another. It’s intense, it’s tantalizing and so right for Lotus and Kenan’s story. A sensual dance between the two of them from start to finish.
Their relationship is a work in progress. Kennedy Ryan succeeds in making their connection and chemistry palpable and undeniable through the conversations Lotus and Kenan share. They get to know and learn about another through conversation and taking their time. Exploring and enjoying one another. It’s beautifully written and explored. Their evolvement from friends to lovers takes time and I treasured and savored every moment of it. Their relationship has to take its time because of the past trauma that Lotus has to deal with and Kenan also has his challenges in the form of an ex wife and their teenage daughter.

Lotus is a fantastic heroine. She knocked the wind right out of me. She exhibits strength, fierceness and grace. Truly a queen. Kenan. Oh my lord. The big and grumpy Gladiator with so much heart and vulnerability. His daughter is his world.
Lotus and Kenan are 2 unforgettable and memorable characters. They own Hook Shot. They make this story shine thanks to the magnificent prose and storytelling from Kennedy Ryan. Her words are out of this world. Liquid gold pouring off of my screen. Poetic and powerful in all its glory.

I’ve been in a Lotus and Kenan cocoon for the past couple of days while reading and it’s been a wonderful place to be. This is why I read. To escape. To be transported to another place. To feel and experience the power of written words. Hook Shot delivered on all accounts and so much more. I couldn’t ask for more.

Standalone Series

#1 Long Shot — 3.75 Stars
#2 Block Shot — 1.5 Stars
#3 Hook Shot — 4.5 Stars

I’m overflowed with emotions right now I feel like I might combust at any second. I’d gone from feeling completely moved by these two lovebirds’ enduring love, slightly spooked by Lotus’ voodoo instincts, to having ovaries exploding reaction whenever these two have even the briefest contact with one another.

Dimensional characters
I liked that Kenan isn’t the typical overwhelmingly cocky loud mouthed H. He’s bitter and angry, but he’s also loving. He has a calming presence with a wild edge of overprotectiveness. He’s a good man, a responsible father, and definitely a great lover. Meanwhile, Lotus is such a kickass h. She’s damaged, but she’s strong. I adored the confident and self assured way she handled things. I loved that she works in a fashion industry. I really admired how dedicated and passionate both her and Kenan are with their careers.

Rollercoaster of a romance
Kenan and Lotus’ relationship isn’t always all sunshines and rainbows. They have outside forces working against them that make them doubt their relationship. Kenan with his failed marriage and mentally unstable daughter. Lotus with her haunting childhood trauma. However, despite all that, I loved how they slowly build trust for one another and tackle off their insecurities and differences. They don’t have fights caused by petty misunderstandings bcs they are honest and always communicate with each other.

Realistic personal struggles
I really appreciate how uplifting the author exposed Lotus’ healing journey is. I loved that she didn’t write it in an abrasive manner or treat Lotus’ trauma as a mere plot device of a sort that was thrown into the story just for the sole purpose of complicating the main characters’ relationship. On the contrary, she really dove deep into the issue. She showed and made us understand Lotus’ pain and how a survivor like her could make a breakthrough in her suffering.

I also liked how the author let us see into the extent of Kenan’s family’s problems. I hadn’t expected him to father a fourteen year old daughter. I’m used to reading about single dads with little babies children. I think they are less complicated to portray in books. That’s why this one fact about Kenan gave me new perspective on how destructive a divorce could affect teenagers. The arguments with Kenan’s ex-wife was a little over dramatic though.

Overall, this book is emotional, unputdownable, and phenomenally sexy. It talks about real personal problems, sensitive and serious issues and doesn’t sugarcoat them in any way. It’ll hit you right in the feels. I laughed, I cried, I blushed, I got angry, empowered, and about a dozen other emotions coursing through me during my reading of this book.

This Book...And This Author robbed me...
Robbed me of my sleep...
Robbed me of my tears...
Robbed me of my emotions...

But I gave them up...willingly because this story took something which could have been just strong and good and made it spectacular.
I am still sleep-deprived and will try to make sense of it as best as I can. I am only going to give you my thoughts on this...as there are so many excellent reviews which will give you more. (My friend Christy's review alerted me to this book and I thank her for it.)

I just want to commend Ms. Kennedy who gave me the moments she did. I was able to feel every emotion, turmoil, conflict, and love this book presents. She gave me characters that were not compromised in any way. If there is something more than three dimensional, then she provided it. Every exchange, all of the dialogue and situations jumped off the page.

I was each character at some point...I was the one who was confused by the feelings I had for this man, fearing what could happen if I let go...But I also was a warrior able to fight for myself yet also appreciating having someone finally wanting to take care of me. I was him, knowing this woman was for me and needed to let her work through her pain...I was his daughter, confused about all the changes happening around me and wanting things to just go back to the way they were...

I feel this book is important because it addresses so much...and does it extremely well. It does it with care and truth. It presents many subjects in a way to allow readers to experience real-life experiences through these characters and grow from them. What makes this so special is it is done through a thoroughly engaging entertaining story.

Now don't think this is some heavy thing that has no humor or lustful, lovely sexy loving times...

Au contraire...
This story is one of The Most Romantic I Have Read, PERIOD.
So with that statement, I will leave you with this...

My beloved is mine and I am his.

So, here is my 2 cents. Do yourself a favor and read this book, it will change you for the better.

5/5 ⭐️ x ♾️ This is a reread for me and I LOVED it even more than I did the first time I read it. It has some of my fave tropes. Single dad, age gap, and a beautiful slow-burn. This book just gave me all the feels. It had me giggling, blushing, crying, and swooning. It was deeply emotional at times but so beautiful.

Lotus is my favorite heroine from this series!! My heart broke for her and her childhood trauma. I felt sick to my stomach reading what she had to endure. And the way that her own mother reacted to what happened made me so furious!! I wanted to smack some sense into her for choosing a rapist over her own daughter! 🤢

I really admired Lotus and how strong she was. She was a great heroine!

And Kenan???? There are no words to describe how much I LOVED him too!! He was just perfect and I loved how obsessed he was with Lotus from the moment they met in book 1 🥰.

The romance was beautiful! They just had so much chemistry and the sexual tension was off the charts! 🫠 And now I’ll never be able to listen to PYT without thinking about these two 🥹❤️.

I really liked that Kenan was an introvert but was only ever open and talkative with Lotus 🥹❤️. And the little notes he would write to her had me smiling so much. He was just so dreamy! 🥺

Overall, this is definitely my favorite from the series. The romance and the characters were everything! 🫶🏻❤️.

TW for sexual assault and suicide

Kenney Ryan is a favorite author of mine, so it's no surprise that I really enjoyed this one. Kennedy writes a smitten hero so well and, from the moment he lays eyes on Lotus, Kenan is absolutely obsessed with Lotus. He is a single dad with an ex who won't leave him alone, but he knows Lotus is the one for him. This romance was definitely heartbreaking because they had to put so many people before their own happiness. As the reader, you just wanted Kenan and Lotus to be together and find their happiness with each other. The reason this didn't get a full five star, though, is because I think it was a bit too long and the beginning dragged a bit. It took me awhile to really get into this romance and then the plot finally picked up. Other than that, though, I really enjoyed this emotional romance! Definitely be ready for to be emotionally drained when you pick up this book!

It's LIVE

I read my first Kennedy Ryan Romance three years ago and in a sea of romance stories, hers was a standout for all the right reasons. I very quickly devoured her back catalogue, have read every book since, somehow becoming a beta reader along the way. Her attention to detail and passion for making the story the very best version of itself is outstanding. I have witnessed the development of this story into absolute pure perfection with outstanding depth of character and feel of emotion. Another stunning winner that will wow readers, both new and old.

Hook Shot is a romance novel set in the world of professional basketball and high fashion. It's a part of the Hoops series so, of course, past characters of the series have a place in this book but despite that, Hook Shot stands tall as a standalone and can most definitely be read in isolation. Richly textured with thoughtful storytelling and a luxurious narrative, Hook Shot vividly tells a unique and charismatic story.

Kennedy Ryan's aesthetically pleasing, lustrous writing immersed me in the world of Kenan and Lotus, the protagonists at the heart of the story. Both characters have a story to tell about their past, both have work to do on their own selves and the last thing either of them need is each other. It's clear that their attraction is something that they cannot fight forever and the unfolding emotional story is totally compelling. I believed in their thoughts, their motives and their actions. Their chemistry with each other shines through the prose and made me care deeply about them as individuals and as a couple. I felt their passion for each other, their pain, their turmoil and heartache. The romantic relationship that develops between them is super sexy with a first kiss to end all first kisses.... GET READY FOR HOOK SHOT!

Love is as strong as Death
Immeasurable strength radiates from this story. Kennedy has taken a mammoth task of writing socially relevant stories. Powerful and Important in any day & age, this story could be about any race, gender, ethnicity or colour. The underlying theme of inflicted pain and abuse could belong to any human being.

description

The power in our veins passed between two little girls in the Lower Ninth. We held it in a field of rotting cane, even when we were torn apart. It flows between us now through years and heartache and unconditional love. The power of an unbroken line. We are the magic.
Some scars are visible, others not, yet all the characters in the story are bruised to an extent. Everybody is trying to do best under the circumstances, dealing with shitty cards that fate has dealt them, calling on their Hopscotch!!
Lotus Dupree is trying to take baby steps to heal from the blunt-edged trauma to her body & soul
“Give yourself permission to let it hurt, but allow yourself permission to let it heal.”
Bridget- the Venus Flytrap, is in a way is trying to recover from a broken life too. I won't say that she had any excuse for what she did........but I understand!
Simone, omg adorable, confused Simone whose life has been upended, is trying to deal with it too...and failing!😢
And all these characters are facing the NBA Gladiator, San Diego Waves MVP, two Championship Rings owner - Kenan Ross. A mountain of a man, title holder of  #Armporn  and rich AF.

description

Yet his life is a circus, his home a mess and all the characters are hooked up to his energy supply, one way or the other, sapping, draining and in Lotus's case- replenishing and reviving him. It's like he's a fly trapped in a very large web.
A "vacuum cleaner kiss" later they are hooked. Buttons match, their lives now sewn together, and i was totally invested at this point.

description

The story has a very smooth flow, very subtle nuances and some bold, risqué moves intertwined. It has hints of mysterious and occult practices in the background. An inherited power at work behind the scenes in some instances.
I loved the relationship equation. Very untangled and sorted graph.
“My beloved is mine and I am his”
I'd been waiting for Lotus's book ever since Book 1, I'd say I'm extremely happy to read it, it was everything and then some. Hopefully we get Decker and Avery book soon-ish

If you’ve read Ms. Ryan’s books before, then you know that there’s something magical about the way she crafts words together and makes them mean something. Makes them special. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning devouring this book and experiencing the connection between Kenan and Lotus. My kindle app is full of quotes, many from this book alone, but out of respect for the journey I’m sure you’d enjoy I only leave you with these bits and my take on the experience.

”Blow my mind again, Lotus.”

These two characters fit like the last two pieces of a puzzle we didn’t even know we were working on. The picture they make, is not only beautiful but it showcases strength, heart, openness, vulnerability, sacrifice, healing, and so much more. It’s a testament to all encompassing love, even in its most difficult facet, the love and nurturing of self.

“You have stolen my heart with one look of your eyes.”

It would be an understatement to say that the writing is excellent. In my eyes, it is yet unmatched. The pacing kept me not only entranced, but excited for more. The character development was phenomenal. The plot delved deep. It touched on themes that had tears running down my cheeks unchecked.

”Deeper. Harder. Faster. More.”

The rating system is broken because there aren’t enough stars on the scale for me to properly measure this novel. You’d do yourself a disfavor to pass it up. If I could only recommend one author in my lifetime that you should take seriously: Kennedy Ryan would be it. Hands down.

“You hungry?” Amanda asks. She’d take a bite of me if I was down, which I’m not. I’ve had enough experience with man-eaters to last a lifetime. She’ll find someone else to devour. I’m sure any reasonably attractive millionaire will do.

I could spend all day quoting the most amazing, angsty, mind-blowing phrases from Kennedy Ryan's Hook Shot, but this simple passage (above) does all the work for me and it's not even in the blood and guts of the story. Hungry. Bite of me. Man-eaters. Devour. She weaves this prose like a tapestry, and these details are so perfect, you might even miss them as you read, they're so natural. They're not flowery or stand-outs. This is how she writes. Perfectly smooth, elegant, intelligent prose that shows us the story she is telling. She is a master at this, and I can assure you, the entire book is built upon--not decorated with--strong prose like this.

I don't talk about plot in my reviews, and I'd rather you all go in blind anyway. Just know that you're going to get a beautifully written, hot AF, angsty, compelling, REAL love story between two human beings who feel like they're so real and you can call them on the phone or have a drink at any time. (which reminds me, Lo's posse of GF's are just as alive on the page as any main character.)

Cannot recommend enough.

Title: Hook Shot (Hoops #3)
Author: Kennedy Ryan
Genre: Sports Romance, Contemporary

Finally!
I have been dying for Kenan and Lotus's story ever since Long Shot, which FYI was one of my favourite read for the year 2018.
I know it's still very early on but I can say with utmost confidence that Hook Shot is definitely going to be one of my favourites for the year 2019 🎉

From the very first book, there was this exotic, wild, untameable air of mystery about Lotus. She exuded this confidence that captured my attention and suffice to say, Kenan got hooked by her too.
Kenan on the other hand...Man... this man is dangerous. I can't pinpoint just one thing/reason why I love this man. Perhaps it's his intelligence, his thoughtfulness, his warmth, or perhaps it's the essence of power, passion and emotion that surrounds him. OR perhaps it's also due to the fact that my mouth dropped open right alongside Lotus when Kennedy Ryan described Kenan's body. lol! (I'm probably objectifying him but damn.... the way Kennedy described him gives me goosebumps).

55711571_10218371956272406_332860171598430208_n

KeLo are a match made in romance heaven! I think once they let their guard down, there was this level of comfort that was easy-going, organic and natural. I enjoyed their banter. I loved Lotus's sarcastic wit. I think that just like Kenan...I loved her spirit! Her boldness makes me envious.
KeLo makes me Happy...I feel Happy when I think about them. Plus, It really helps that two books worth of wait + all that angst and sexual chemistry we felt whenever these two made a cameo in the previous books were SOOOOO WORTH THE WAIT!!!! 🤤 😍

Can I say that I loved Kenan! I loved how patient he was with everything. He is an alpha male through and through without being a domineering demon. 😆

HS_blow my mond.jpg

KeLo have an amazing chemistry but there is a level of intimacy that zings through your body as you read their story.

I am just going to throw my hands in the air and praise Kennedy Ryan! 🙌🏼
I don't know how she does it but her books always gets me.
I don't know how or what she does but if she tells me to close my eyes and follow her.. I would do it in a heartbeat. Her books never lets me down.

I know I have gone on and on about how amazing KeLo is but I should point out that just like with all the books from this series, except a ton of emotions. Brace yourself for a tidal wave of feelings.

Long Shot will forever hold a piece of my heart but this book.. is a close second with just a sliver of difference.

Get this book! Highly highly recommend it!

You know when you’re blessed to read a truly incredible book? A monumental love story? I experienced that when I read my advance copy of HOOK SHOT by Kennedy Ryan. This book BLEW MY MIND.

- sports romance that made me care about sport
- older hero, younger heroine
- sensible one meets free spirit
- BURNING hot love scenes
- constant lolz

It’s so brilliantly, beautifully written, so stunningly romantic and deeply emotional, tackling some heavy themes in such a real but ultimately uplifting way.

The hero is a divorced dad with cheating ex-wife issues, an antisocial jazz lover, a gentleman badass and a serious sex appeal explosion. Kenan Ross had me drooling on every page, I swear to God.

Meanwhile, the heroine, Lotus, was a truly wonderful soul with a wicked sense of humour, a fashion designer with skills and ambition, a powerful woman in more ways than one who feels like such a role model to me. I especially loved the treatment of her faith and of her experience of mother/daughter connections. This quote gutted me:

“My mother gave birth. Whoop-de-do. Cats and dogs give birth to entire litters. There is no miracle to birth, from what I’ve seen. The miracle is what follows. The miracle of selflessness. The phenomenon of nurturing self-worth and sacrificing for a child—feeding not just their bodies, but their souls.“

Raising a glass to the mothers who did even more than give birth, the mothers who didn’t give birth at all, and the mothers who couldnt give birth but are most definitely mothers. For that aspect of this story alone, I could thank Kennedy Ryan on my knees.

But there’s more. So, so much more.

The amazing friendships and loving connections between women, the constant laughter and sweet in-jokes of Kenan and Lotus’s relationship, their unwavering gentleness with each other, the ROMANCE of how he treated her like a goddess at EVERY TURN, and oh my god you guys, the sexual tension. And the fireworks when that tension came to a head. I don’t even know what to say right now, I just.... LOVE AND LUST AND BEING ALIVE, THAT’S WHAT THIS BOOK IS. And every minute of it ripped me apart and stitched me back together again with little sparkles inside! I cannot recommend it enough.

Content warning: this book deals with child sexual abuse and suicide (the incidents are unrelated) and the growth and healing and care depicted felt so pure and wonderful. (If you need more info and warnings about that aspect, feel free to message me.) In particular, I so appreciated reading about a survivor flourishing within a relationship while working through her issues, because as you guys know, my thing is - EVERYONE deserves, can get, should have, a HEA. Putting people in different situations at the centre of romance is vital.

It is Poetic. Emotional. Thought Provoking. Deeply Beautiful. Unforgettable

5 Tell Me Your Truth ⭐'s

Kennedy Ryan gives us an intense, raw, romantic love story.
☆ With a hero that I not only want to *kiss/lick* but I respect and admire.
☆ With a heroine that is beautiful on the outside and even more beautiful in the inside. Her compassion built strong by her own experiences.

I have found the one whom my soul loves

I love that this author is not afraid to color outside the lines and continues to give us heartfelt words that feed our heart and soul. She presents us with topics that NEED to be brought to light and does so remarkably.

Fabulous characters with some brokenness that makes them better and that much more real.

Lotus and Kenan each have a past, each have their own current life struggles. And together they have this undeniable pull, this chemistry that fires up when they are together. I absolutely loved the buildup of their relationship. #Fabulous

♡ ~ This kiss is a dark corridor, twisting and turning, luring me deeper. I can't find my way out, and if someone opened a door offering escape, I'd slam it in their face

Without a doubt Kenan is an adorable man and Lotus compliments him in a way that brings out the best of him. Because Lotus is his queen and she's a warrior #LoveHer

"There is no one else but you, my friend, my equal." ~ ~ Song of Solomon 5:2

Yes this book is a romance (around 14% I was sooo in love) BUT THIS BOOK IS MORE!!! It made me think, It felt relatable, There were things that made me sad and some that made me mad. #AllTheFeels

I felt all the different types of love (father/daughter, Son/Mother, Friends and Lovers).
WE all want and NEED to feel important to those we love and to those who are supposed to love us back.

Confession- I'm a sucker for a man that treats his mother soo good ❤😭

How does it feel To Read a Story That Reaches a Deep Part of Your Heart, That has Life Issues You Can Relate To and Still Sweeps You Off Your Feet?

I absolutely loved (and yet was horrified by) the previous book in this series. But this one bored me. There’s a bit of silly voodoo references, a stereotypical bitchy ex-wife, and a 14 year old daughter whom inexplicably needs a large amount of therapy for her parents’ divorce (my parents have never been divorced but I don’t think kids at that age are heavily invested in anyone but themselves - maybe that’s just me). Oh and I am not a prude when it comes to romance books but the sex scenes in this one kind of turned me off. So yeah, this was kind of a fail for me on all levels.

Kennedy Ryan slays my heart and my soul and my mind every single time she writes!

5 I Am Yours CROWNS

Hook Shot, unlike its predecessors, has a quiet power. Kenan and Lotus’s journey isn’t shocking, in your face, controversial in nature, but it is just as consuming, just as moving. The subtle way she brings them together, heals them, is powerful. Their story is a silent pulse under your skin, building slowly and sensually, exploding into full blown love and culminating in romance that still made my heart flutter and shatter and my perceptions challenged and crafted into something new.

Lotus, like all Kennedy Ryan heroines, exemplifies the best qualities of femininity - independence, intelligence and bravery. While Lotus shares similar qualities with that of Ryan’s previous heroines, there is a peacefulness to her character, a quiet storm that blows in slaying the enemy when those she loves is threatened. Lotus is introspective, an observer. She believes fully in her faith and her upbringing with Mimi, refusing to be ashamed of who she is and where she comes from. Her quiet strength, though, speaks so loudly, she demands attention. Like any good characters, there are layers to Lotus. We get to see who she truly is with those she loves. Through her friends and Kenan and Iris, we get see a woman who feels and loves fully, who is funny and vibrant, who is complete. If you have read the previous standalones, then you know Lotus’s history, and if not, you will find out in Hook Shot, and it is not surprising that this experience has shaped her, affects her during her story, and ultimately forms who she is and becomes. It is this experience, though, and how it still affects her that puts her on the path to Kenan. This part of the story is where the readers truly get to see her fortitude and her ability to know herself and that there are many paths to healing. Her reflection, her decision to own her soul and body with no apologies, and her ability to love are her greatest attributes.

Kenan is so incredibly different than any other heroes Kennedy Ryan has created. He is an old soul in every way. And while he shares his reflective and introspective nature with Lotus, he uses his observation to close himself off to most. Through the course of the novel, Lotus tears his walls down, and we see a man who is disciplined and loves deeply, which we see most in their intimate moments. She draws out a side of him that is silly, adventurous, and sensual. Of course he has those characteristics that we love in a hero - that delicate balance between possession and freedom, and readers will absolutely swoon over this man who is as disciplined in his pursuit and love of Lotus as he is on the court.

Story writing is always where Kennedy Ryan shines. Her writing style and prose just makes a story more. I feel her words reach into my soul, twist me up and by the end of the novel, I am something new, something different. With her words, a kiss is more than a kiss, the intimacy between characters becomes transcendent, and her stories pulse with the vibrancy of life. I feel every moment, every joy, every heartbreak, every flash of anger and heat of passion. I LIVE with these characters, and I was consumed by the story or Lotus and Kenan because their love is unique and scary and healing. What readers will ultimately see, though, is that their journey shows that love, even with the most level-headed and observant characters can be consuming. Their love becomes an altar, a place of worship, not just with their bodies, but their minds and souls. Kennedy Ryan also excels and creating conflicts that organically stem from the characters she creates, the threads woven into the story from the beginning, developed and expanded upon with each chapter. It is organic and natural, and the resolution offers some type didactic offering for the public to ruminate on.

With every story, Kennedy Ryan makes me fall in love with her characters, their journey, and the romance of it all. It doesn’t seem to matter, though, who or what the story is about because her words and her story-telling are what truly make me fall in love with each and every book she writes. Her talent is truly unparalleled, her ability to make readers feel and think is her greatest gift.

I knew it! I knew it from the first time I met Lotus and Keenan in Long Shot that they would blow my mind and be one of my favorite love stories ever.

AND I WAS SO FREAKING RIGHT!

Honestly there is so much I could say but for the sake of keeping this spoiler free and not give away too much I'm going to give you a series of random thoughts that will hopefully convey my fangirling and thoughts but not give too much:

1. Keenan and Lo have a sort of connection that you feel from the first page. I seriously could feel their sexual tension but also their soul deep connection from their first interaction, even before then. There was something about reading this book that gave me so many feels for them. I haven't feel this much chemistry between two characters in a long while. It was such a beautiful love that they had for each other.

2. If there's one thing I will forever love Kennedy Ryan for, it's for how diverse her books are. Most importantly in POC characters but also in the topics that are discussed in each of her books. This book was no different and I thought she did such an amazing job with the topics discussed and she handle them very well. You could tell she did her research and talked with many people about these topics. Also I really loved the LGBT+ rep we got in this book with a certain f/f couple! I feel like it's very rare to see f/f in romance but especially in adult/NA romance and I loved that we got that here!

3. I love Yari so much and if we don't get a book for my Dominican sister I will seriously riot. It just needs to be said because she caught my attention from the first mention and I kept wondering what her future would look like. Also, I can count on one hand how many books I've read that actually even had a Dominican female character and it made me so damn happy and seen, and I just need to know this won't be the last time I see her.

4. I refuse to believe that this is the last book in this series because I love all of these characters so damn much. August & Iris, Decker & Avery, Banner & Jared, Iris & Keenan, they all have a place in my heart and I could read a million more pages about them and their lives. I am hoping out for many more novellas and novels about these characters and this world because it is one I am very much in love with and in no way ready to move on from.

This book was a pleasant and wonderful surprise of a love story and definitely a favorite of the year for me. Fans of this series will not be disappointed and I can't wait to see what will come next from this author!

*Received an arc in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!*

5++++++STARS

Hook Shot is book 3 in the Hoops series by Kennedy Ryan. Even though I haven’t read the first two book in the series, I was not lost at all and was able to read this as a standalone, and I am so glad I did. The writing was excellent and grabbed my attention from page 1. The story tugged at my heart strings and the love Kenan and Lotus had for each other, just took my breath away.

Kenan and Lotus have met before. They have been circling each other trying to deny the intense connection they have. Finally, they start a friendship because they both have demons to battle, and it’s just not the right time to start a relationship. It is a difficult time, especially for Lotus, who has to deal with some serious issues that the author dealt with head on.

There are so many things I loved about this book and if you looking for a beautiful love story that is packed with emotion, this is it!!
