Is everything discounted on Prime Day?
You won’t find everything on the giant e-commerce site being discounted on Prime Day, but you will find a lot. Ramhold says there are certain product categories that don’t usually get marked down significantly for Prime Day. “Patio furniture is still in high demand for the month of July, so unless you desperately need something, it's best to wait until Labor Day for the truly great deals on these kinds of items,” she says.
She adds that you may not snag the best clothing bargains, either. “Unless you want Amazon brands, hold off on revamping your closet until Labor Day sales, or back to school sales if you need kids’ items sooner.”
She also suggests waiting for Black Friday for the best prices on electronics and a few other product categories. “We may see some deals on things like TVs and laptops as well as a handful of tablets, but unless a specific model you're interested in is on sale and sees a significant discount, you may be better off waiting just a bit longer for things like laptops and tablets, and until Black Friday for TVs,” she says.
Are Prime Day deals actually good?
Prime Day typically offers discounts from 30% to 50% or more. But Amazon doesn’t always have the lowest prices, especially if you’re looking for Apple products, small kitchen appliances or clothing, says Ramhold.
“Prime Day has grown to be a huge event — enough so that other major retailers have caught on and are now offering their own competing sales during the same timeframe, typically,” Ramhold continues. She recommends checking Best Buy, Target and Walmart if you’re looking to comparison shop. “Some competing sales will last longer than Prime Day as well, increasing the odds of being able to find better deals outside of Amazon's event.”
