Adam Nayman The Ringer With a whip-smart plot, a strong lead in Aaron Pierre, and a standout villain in Don Johnson, director Jeremy Saulnier has done it again. Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Richard Brody New Yorker The film's hectically choreographed violence has less power than the characters' subtle yet precise glances of recognition or hostility or complicity. The movie's physicality, at its most vital, is infinitesimal. Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Jack Hamilton Slate Rebel Ridge is that rarest of things, an auteurist action thriller with brains and heart and guts, an electrifying and crowd-pleasing work of cinema, pulp art of the highest level. Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Sreeparna Sengupta The Times of India At 130 minutes, Rebel Ridge is gripping, taut and heavy with the grim, dark visual tones, adding to the mood, even though a bit ponderous at times. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Rohan Naahar The Indian Express The greatest villains, Rebel Ridge declares with a palpable anger, are no longer the Vietnamese or the Russians or even the Chinese; the greatest villains are born in the USA. Sep 18, 2024 Full Review Chance Solem-Pfeifer Willamette Week Jeremy Saulnier might more accurately be described as a “collision-course specialist.” Few filmmakers like better to pit unstoppable forces against immovable objects and slowly wring the tension. Blair B Aaron Pierre is a certified badass! The film is a hybrid social commentary-slash-action thriller that's equally effective on both counts. Don Johnson is the perfect foil. Saulnier doesn't miss. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Allen R Amazing story and performances from the entire cast. There was one moral character turn from an officer in the end that didn't make complete sense, but still great. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Chris H Great acting but fell short a little as a movie. The story just needed a little more. If this was a series it would have been amazing. It is still worth watching though, especially if you like shows like Reacher. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Joe B Grounded, tense throughout and beautifully performed across the board--favorite watch of the year! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Dave R All that ex-Marine Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) wants to do is post bail for his cousin Mike (C.J LeBlanc) in a small southern town. Unfortunately, corrupt Chief Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson) and his band of officers have other ideas on what to do about bail money. The film also stars AnnaSophia Robb (Summer McBride), David Denman (Officer Evan Marston), Emory Cohen (Officer Steve Lann). The film is written and directed marvelously by Jeremy Saulnier. I really enjoyed this action film which in my opinion was well acted and the fight scenes were fantastic. The filmmaker did a good job of showing off the Louisiana countryside. What I found refreshing was their isn't a crazy amount of swearing and yes their was blood but not really over the top blood bath that you might thing would be in something like this, which is smart writing. It is definitely worth checking out. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Derrick H Rebel Ridge is Jeremy Saulnier version of a neo western meets Reacher & First Blood. The first act is incredibly enthralling and sets up tension perfectly. This felt like a quintessential throw back to your parent’s favorite 80’s/90’s films, with a nice modern feel. Aaron Pierre continues to prove that he his one of the best and brightest actors working, as he delivers a spectacular performance that likens to Denzel Washington in The Equalizer franchise. The film does peak after the halfway point but still worth watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Read all reviews
