Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous bounty hunter with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. Her mission is to find the missing daughter of Atlas (Edgar Ramírez), the universe's most powerful S.O.B. Lilith forms an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits -- Roland (Kevin Hart), a seasoned mercenary on a mission; Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina's musclebound protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the oddball scientist who's seen it all; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a wiseass robot. Together, these unlikely heroes must battle an alien species and dangerous bandits to uncover one of Pandora's most explosive secrets. The fate of the universe could be in their hands -- but they'll be fighting for something more: each other. Based on one of the best-selling videogame franchises of all time, welcome to BORDERLANDS.

Peter Rainer FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) There's a lot of talent in this, but it's all in the service of a cacophonous crash-and-bang not-terribly-interesting CGI'd hyper violent movie. Aug 28, 2024 Full Review Lauren Coates Chicago Reader A video game adaptation that completely misses the mark. Aug 22, 2024 Full Review Jake Wilson The Age (Australia) The heroes snipe at each other relentlessly, and rarely appear to be enjoying each other’s company, which makes it difficult to buy them as an eventual surrogate family, even a dysfunctional one like the Guardians of the Galaxy. Rated: 2/5 Aug 15, 2024 Full Review Dave Golder Radio Times Borderlands is certainly pacy and action packed, but it's also painfully thin on plot and characterisation. Rated: 2/5 Sep 13, 2024 Full Review Scott Mendelson The Outside Scoop (Substack) If Hollywood does want to make video games into “the next comic books” in terms of newer adaptable I.P., they might do well to avoid turning their films into glorified superhero movies. Rated: 5/10 Sep 5, 2024 Full Review Ash Parrish The Verge Borderlands earned its poor reception, but for what it does with Lilith, it’s also earned my respect. Sara Couldnt stand it! Weird and terrible plot line. Costumes and makeup were the best parts. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Katelyn This deserves 3 stars because wardrobe, set deck, and the cinematographer blew it out of the park. Should've been 5 stars but either the writer, director, or editor just couldn't get it there. These actors deserved their roles to be treated better. Its too bad, this clearly had a lot of love behind it! Amazon should've picked up the I.P. and given it the fallout treatment. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Javier mannn this is so good Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/05/24 Full Review Aarron Its not as bad as people are making it out to be, just aet your expectations. My son loved it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/03/24 Full Review SubOptimalDad Succeeded neither as an action-adventure nor as fan service. Really threaded the needle there. Bonus star because the ClapTrap popcorn bucket is fantastic. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Joshua C Good fun. Even though they mashed up characters from different games and changed origin a little bit, the characters actually came off similar to in game. Loses a star for bad ending. There was a decent movie with a very bad ending. Even that is true to the Borderlands game 1, it had a bad ending also. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Read all reviews
