J A Huss never fails to write an intricate story with unique characters and lots of character depth.
At first, yes I was a bit surprised with our hero in Meet Me in the Dark, his first encounter with the heroine involves him punching her in the face. He's pretty mean and violent towards her for the first half of the book, it made me wonder how on earth they were going to fall in love. Or even if they were.
I enjoyed both the storyline, the characters and the new take on a 'captive romance'. The romance and sex lacked a little for me, but more than made up for it with everything else.
LOVED THIS PREQUEL. So excited for whats next in the story. Interesting Heroine, hope she gets more kick-ass. Really great hero, kind of good, quite aLOVED THIS PREQUEL. BLURB: Sarai hasn't been able to forgive and forget, in fact, she's done the opposite. Trying a 'normal' life is practically impossible for her. Her past won't let go of her. She's broken but strong. She's different, and the only person she can relate to is a cold hearted assassin, but he has long gone. She needs revenge, she has a plan, and hopefully she might catch the attention of those stunning green eyes.

This book lived up to book 1 for me, maybe even surpassed it. Victor and Sarai kinda turned into Mallory and Micky Knox from 'Natural Born Killers', haha. The lead characters really improved and became more detailed.
I loved the new aspects: The tiny bits of LOL moments The more emotional Victor The new and improved Sarai And I really loved the inclusion of Fredrik; even darker than Victor, he's a very emotionally damaged 'Torturer'...more

BLURB: Sarai's captor, Javier, is a big time drug lord, weapons and slave dealer. Once he was her mothers lover. He became enamored with Sarai, and he took her from her trailer home when she was 14 years old. Now she's 23, she's lived at his compound in Mexico, unwillingly, as Javier's lover, doing what she has to do in order to stay on his good side. One day, she sees her first American after 9 years of captivity, and she doesn't want to let the opportunity slide. But this American is a Hitman, he's dangerous, unreadable and professional. Sarai makes a run for it, stows herself in his car and holds him at gunpoint demanding she is taken across the border.
The story escalates from there. We don't see Sarai held captive for very long at all. Expect a little but good sex, not much swearing, some violence and the two leads fighting with love, morals and lies. Both are damaged and very anesthetized from the real world and real emotions.

This book is pretty fab, lot's of different aspects in it: Stockholm Syndrome (even though it's not fully addressed in this book), Assassin, Captives, slave trade, drugs, weapons, shooting, almost a road-trip feel, kinda Bonnie and Clyde... Definitely not a standard NA.
I liked: That there was no insta-love/lust for the two There was dual POV The lead male was a realistic age It wasn't heavy on the violence without needing to be The characters can relate to one another The very slow emotional development of the two, it's realistic and more prominent in the 2nd book Sarai was a wonderful lead female...more

Sebastian Stark the cockiest, most dangerous, crude, mean, lethal, most broken, fucked-up guy to ever live on my e-reader.
Told entirely from his POV tSebastian Stark the cockiest, most dangerous, crude, mean, lethal, most broken, fucked-up guy to ever live on my e-reader.
Told entirely from his POV the book starts with him being a loner alcoholic and whore using captain of a schooner. His world gets turned upside down when his schooner capsizes, and he manages the save a girl on board by hurling her into one of his life rafts.
Raine is young, cute, gentle and innocent. Bastian only thinks that women are good for one thing, and can't stop thinking of her in that way, but she does not tick the boxes when it comes to his usual female encounter, she's annoying, needy, relying on him for survival. But when his body starts to suffer from the alcohol withdrawal she cares for him and soothes him. Days go by, both of them trying to get along and survive, slowly then get to know one another.
There is a HEA, but the end also leaves it open for another book, there is so much that can be done with the characters and surrounding characters, it's a shame we have to wait til 2014 for the next one.

“I could do it, you know,” I heard myself say. My voice had dropped down low, but I knew she still heard me. I leaned over only a little, bringing my mouth closer to her ear. “I could make you come without even touching you.”
“I thought you loved my dick,” I teased. Raine chuckled and sighed at me. “I like that, too, but your arms are my favourite part of you. They make me feel safe.” “I’ll always keep you safe,” I told her. I tilted my head to the side, looked into her eyes, and smiled down at her. “I know.” "My natural reaction had always been fight - I had never run from anything in my life. What was it about this minuscule little girl that scared the shit out of me?"
“Stop shutting me out.” “I never let you in baby,” I sneered.
Annabelle is a pretty awesum chick. Even if a little far fetched at 17 years old, this girl can kick ass.
The general blurb and what I’ve written only Annabelle is a pretty awesum chick. Even if a little far fetched at 17 years old, this girl can kick ass.
The general blurb and what I’ve written only gives an insight to the first 1/3rd of the book, anything else will give too much of the plot away. The first 1/3rd gives the reader a solid foundation to the rest of the packed book which is filled to the brim with love and hate.
Annabelle has been trained in all kinds of weaponry, she has had lessons in the art of seduction by a French Madame, she travels the world on different missions; with and without her assassin brother who both, in their spare time, like to beat up assholes and each other, and her assassin parents died in action; the love of her father for her mother causing their deaths.
So, Annabelle is taught that love is a weakness and she's trained to; lie, cover her feelings and hide her expressions, as well as kick butt and murder. Her targets are always bad people and she believes that they get what they deserve, she is not a murderer, but a killer.
Her latest target (Xavier) is a drug dealing, murdering, loving husband and father. She plans on getting her hands on Xavier by dating his son (Gabriel, who doesn't believe that his father is a bad guy at all) or nephew (Max) and in the process, gaining access to Xaviers home.
Annabelle begins to fall in love and finds it difficult to hide her true emotions, Gabriel can read her pretty well also. They embark on the kind of Love/Hate relationship everyone loves (they shouldn't, but they do) which sees them to travel across the world together.
This really is a typical YA/New Adult book when it comes to content. Dual POV, romance, some swearing, no descriptive sex, general jealously and sibling rivalry.
Although far fetched ( for eg... Annabelle doesn't drink, has never had sex, she's is a pro killer at 17 and Gabriel is a male whore at 17, they also like to beat each other up on occasions and then kiss and make up) I found it to be a really enjoyable read.
Love the fact that it's not overly descriptive when it comes to stupid stuff like decorations and they don't talk about pointless things. Its not too long or drawn out more than it should be (which surprises me as it is 502 pages, which is also good for the download price) and has plenty of dialogue and action, although some readers are asking why isn't there more, it's enough for me.
I understand that not everyone is enjoying it, it's not a bad book, its not sloppy, drawn out or boring all ALL, this I find the main problem with books in this genre.
I think the problem that people seem to have is that it's so far fetched, it might not be for everybody, but if you agree with myself, then give it a read. I understand, but.... I don't care. It was fun and interesting and had plenty of angst, romance and action in it for me.
If you like this book, I suggest the Untouchable series by Lindsay Delagair similar aspects with out so much of the Love/Hate and more romance....more
