I've always been interested in Appalachian folklore, and this was a great overview and introduction for someone who wants to learn more. You get not just insight into the folklore and legends of the area, you also get a bit of background on the culture too, which I loved.
Well done, fantastic book and I really enjoyed reading it!

As a working mother, this has helped me think differently about how I approach my life and my decisions. The coaching strategies were incredibly well done, and I fully plan on rereading this book when/if I have another child and fully focusing on these strategies to help smooth the transitions between work and maternity leave and back.

It hooked me from the very beginning with a gentle, fun humor that never stopped, and then grew from a cute little story into a gorgeous, interesting fairy tale with a very late twist I was NOT expecting!
The story was fast paced without seeming chaotic, and let me grow to like the characters as I went along. Overall, anyone who wants a cozy, fun little romantasy read will vastly enjoy this.

The writing and writing style was great and I enjoyed what I got of the magic system. It was well edited too, it I decided to DNF this at around 25%.
The writing and writing style was great and I enjoyed what I got of the magic system. It was well edited too, it felt very professional. For the most part, the book really had begun to deliver on the promises made by the description.
My primary gripe was with the main character. She really felt like a YA protagonist but not in a good way. She had a lot of the classic markers of a very whiny teenager whose whole life was going to be turned upside down by the special power and finally got to find herself like her too-pretty best friend that she was subconsciously jealous of.
In short, it's well done, just a little bit tropey. Which doesn't have to be a bad thing either, I just don't really like all of the tropes in this story.

Preventing health issues is great and wonderful, but there are a lot of reasons why someone could struggle to adjust their lifestyle to reflect these blue zones including finances, neurodiversity, and allergies.
Overall, the suggestions were excellent, but they were treated as the only way to be healthy. Anytime someone promotes a particular lifestyle as the only way that works, it's worth being curious and possibly even concerned about. ...more

I read Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow as a child - not much older than the children the story is about. I've read both many times and my understanding of the stories grew as I did.
I would NEVER have appreciated this book at 13. I don't think I would have appreciated it at 18, or even 20, really. But here, now, as an adult with a family and a life, I understand this novel the way Ender understands the Buggers.
This is an absolutely incredible book that handles so many difficult, complex topics with ease and grace while still being completely approachable.
