The Connellys of County Down starts off with the release of inmate Tara Connelly who spent eighteen months in a medium security prison for drug trafficking. She is then reunited with her older brother and sister, Eddie and Geraldine. The novel details Tara’s experience assimilating back to normal life and how it affects the people around her, who have their own problems to deal with.
I absolutely adore how much depth Tracey Lange can give to most simple of things. Every single character in this book is deeply flawed, yet you can’t help feeling empathy for them anyways. Tara, Eddie, and Geraldine feel like such realistic characters and were masterfully developed throughout the course of this novel.
Overall, this is a fantastic read and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a palette cleanser. It’s not earth-shattering or some revolutionary piece of literature but it’s a solid depiction of humanity. ...more
