THE PERFECT LAWYER is out!

Illinois Attorney Ike Thompson just wants to live out the rest of his days in peace.

Years ago, he was known as “the perfect lawyer” for his high-profile, pressure-packed criminal defense work in downtown Chicago. But after losing a crucial case to up-and-coming prosecutor Ursula “the merciless” Rush, his confidence was shattered, and ever since, he’s resigned himself to doing small-time real estate deals in the sleepy suburbs. He’ll never practice criminal law again. He’s lost his edge. Worse yet, he’s lost his courage.

When he’s asked to defend a sensational murder case that’s inflaming the nation, there’s no way he’s accepting.

But then he learns that the defendant, Mia Hendrickson, a young mother accused of setting the fire that killed her three small children, has been tried in the media and found guilty. That she’s been brutally beaten in jail. And that her public defender is incompetent.

Listening to his heart rather than his better judgment, Ike takes Mia’s case—only to find that his opposing counsel is none other than Ursula Rush. The prosecutor has a slam dunk case. The jury seems to be convinced that Mia is guilty. Ike’s old doubts surface and threaten to overwhelm him. Can he face down his fears—and save Mia’s life?

Denny wakes up with a massive hangover after a night with his fellow firefighter guys. But waking up leads Denny into the biggest nightmare of his life when he finds blood all over him and his bead and scratch marks all over his arms and the news that his ex-wife has been murdered.

Denny has no memory of what happened the night before. All his has is the events of the night told 2nd hand from his so called friends. Events that may are not be true.

Gregg Bell....YOU SHOCK ME. I absolutely enjoyed this book and even though the story started pointing at the person I thought, I am just fine with that. This worked!!

Bloody Sunrise - a review by Rosemary Kenny

What happened the night before the eponymous Sunrise, is a complete blank to MC Danny O'Callaghan, a Chicago firefighter who chose his off-duty drinking fellows unwisely and must race against time to discover the truth - that someone wants him put on trial for the murder of his ex-wife - and he has no idea which of them is telling the truth about where his was at the time - nor why he fell into that black hole of oblivion!
Bloody Sunrise is a great advocate of AA and a sobering wake-up call to those 'under the influence' of the demon drink, by Gregg Bell...it's well worth a try!

In this book, the beginning was slow; but, it built up, and became harder to put down closer to the end. As a Christian, I like how the main character is transformed throughout his ordeal, finding faith in God and himself, instead of in the bottom of the bottle.
The action is intense, making you guess who the culprit is until the end. Your emotions will go on a rollercoaster ride and you will find yourself in some fairly dark places. If you are looking for a book that will get your heart pumping, this is the one for you.

I received a free copy of this book from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. I really wanted this book to knock it out of the park, but I was sorely disappointed. I had to struggle to justify 3 stars. Mr Bell gets a phrase or story line stuck in his head and he can't seem to let go of it. At times I felt like he was repeating himself because he wasn't sure I got the idea the first 99 times he mentioned it (Jimmy sitting in county jail just because he gave two bad guys a ride, how badly Denny wants a drink and all the cliches that entails, how Brig is his best friend,, etc). Most of the action in the story takes place in Denny's head as he tries to figure out what happened the night his wife was murdered, which I could understand given the nature of the story line, but what little action took place outside of his head was Denny running around in circles. It felt like he had 4-5 places that he was constantly going: AA, Serenity Club, Summer's apartment and Aunt Elisabeth's office. This could have been such a great story, but no such luck.

4.5 Stars!
A thrilling page turner...

The Review:
I always enjoy Gregg Bell’s way of telling a story and Bloody Sunrise was just what I’ve come to expect from him. Gripping, thrilling and with a shocking ending, this book is a must read!

Story/Characters...
Denny O’Callaghan wakes up one morning with no memory of the night before, covered in scratches and sporting a painful head bump. The last thing he remembers is drinking at The Wild Bull with co-firemen ... and then it all goes blank. Not unaccustomed to blackouts when he drinks heavily, he doesn’t give it much thought until a phone call from a friend informs him that his ex-wife has been murdered and the police are investigating.

A thrilling page turner, this book takes us on a wildly mysterious journey as Denny tries to recall what happened to him that night, how he got injured and who could have murdered his ex-wife, all the while digging deep into Denny’s alcoholism and the temptation for him to drown out the world around him with yet another binge drinking session. There are plenty of suspects interjected throughout the story, and you just don’t know if Denny is the actual criminal behind his ex-wife's murder or if the real culprit is combing the streets looking for their next victim.

Denny was a complicated, but likable character. I could feel his desperation, his confusion and his loss. He was truly in a terrifying situation and frantic to remember what seemed to be just out of reach. With each chapter, I became more and more invested in discovering who killed Radisha and suspecting everyone, right alongside Denny.

Could it have been a hate crime, a drunken rage, a crime of coincidence, a crime of passion? You just don’t know for sure. And that’s what I loved most. I had my hunches. I had my theories. And as the author lays a subtle, well hidden path of suspicion at every turn, I just couldn’t suss out the mystery completely. And that was the most thrilling part!

The Wrap Up:
I want to be wow’ed when I read a suspense novel. I want to be enthralled with the mystery and I want there to be some shock when it’s all laid out before me. With creative, fast paced writing that draws you in completely, this book did just that. It had an exceptional story, a thought provoking plot and a surprise ending that floored me. This one is definitely going in my reread pile!

I received the ARC of Bloody Sunrise for free and let me tell you - it was a pleasure.

So, goods things first - it's a legit thriller/crime/suspense story. And not the kind where you know who's the killer - you're just waiting for the rest of the characters to catch up to that. Nope. Not at all. Not even a little.

The author has written the paranoia of an alcoholic so well that you as a reader end up trusting no single character and you end up marking every single person as the killer just like the protagonist.

It's a gripping story which makes you flip through pages and end up reading it before the time suggested by kindle. The plot is unique and the characters have shades of grey which makes them real. Sometimes their motives are visible and obvious but sometimes their actions are unexplained.

So, yes. The story in total is an amazing read. You feel such a sense of relief at the place where the story ends.

However, and yes there is a however, there were a few things that bothered me.

Sometimes a few really elaborate scenes basically established a really tiny fact. Like, the author wanted the protagonist to realise that he can remember what happened the night before even though his head is addled about it because he wasn't dead and he was somewhere aware. And for this tiny realisation, the guy went to a psychic, found said psychic a normal dude, spoke to him, didn't believe him, tried to understand in detail by going back to the psychic, saw said psychic talking to a cop, got paranoid about the psychic talking to a cop, spoke to psychic again, psychic goes hokey, he runs from that crazy train and FINALLY realised that he needs to have faith in himself to remember. And I'm like - why didn't he just search Google for it! Maybe it's just one of those "I won't write it this way things." I didn't really see the significance that the author saw to establish the ground work that they did establish.

Also, some descriptions were repetitive. Like, the same description using the same words sort of rings in your head that "I've read this before"! Not exactly a pet peeve but wasn't pleasant when I was trying to flip to the "OMG, what now" moment.

BUT, honestly, nitpicking aside. I really genuinely enjoyed the mystery, the suspense and the thrill of the story. I loved the fact that even after you're finally sure of who did it - their motivations shock you. Like, the story lives upto it's suspense and thrill till the last damn minute. Which was amazing!!

I give this story a wonderful 4 out of 5.

All my love,
Sri

Bloody Sunrise by Gregg Bell

Denny spends a night out drinking with his friends. To his horror he wakes in the morning with blood on his sheets, a monster headache, and has no clue what happened the night before. Then he gets a call that his ex-wife has been killed, and he begins to wonder what happened. He can't explain the body aches and scratches on his arm. His friends know he was in a rage that night, and the police question him about the domestic report (against) him. All signs point to Denny being the killer, and he has to act fast and get to the truth before it is too late.

The plot moves at a fast pace, intense, compelling, thrilling. Filled with details pulling you into the story, with twists, turns and secrets. Denny is very likable, and wakes to a personal nightmare. With vivid detail I was pulled into his (Denny) life and at the edge of my seat. Gregg Bell writes with flare, digging deep into your soul and not letting go from the first page, up until the end. I highly recommend Bloody Sunrise to those who love a fantastic thriller, a definite five-star read!

Denny O’Callahan lives to drink. He's tried unsuccessfully to stop, even been through rehab….until the morning he wakes up with scratches all over his arms and neck, blood on his head, and no memory of the night before.

A fellow fireman calls and informs him that his ex wife, Rashida, had been killed that night. Denny can't remember a thing, and as he tries to piece together his flashbacks, the police close in. Denny is convinced he could not kill her, he still loves her, but who did? Suspects are not in short supply and slowly but surely he realizes it could be any one of his friends. It could even be his current lover.

This book takes an open and hard look at alcoholism and the never-ending battle an alcoholic fights. It's scary really, the black outs and then having to reconstruct memories - but it's not Denny's….

And can he trust other people's memories?

Another good one from Mr Bell, true to form with a story within a story. I received a copy of this ebook from the author and write a review for every book I read.

Bloody Sunrise by Gregg Bell.
4.5 estrelas.

Livro cativante.

I received an ARC of Bloody Sunrise.
Denny is a fireman who wakes up not only with a hangover but with scratches on his arms and torso as well as a bleeding bump on his head. When the police comes over to tell him his ex-wife was murdered last night the chaos begins. Denny can't remember anything and the marks on his body makes him question his own actions. You really want to find out what happened that night and Gregg made sure to bring up different aspects to bring up Denny's friends as possibility, even his jealous girlfriend could have done it. What I didn't like was how paranoid Denny got in the end but that's about to happen when you're chased by the police. Great story and a surprising end concerning the motive.

A Can't Put Downer!

Denny O'Callaghan wakes up one morning after a night of drinking bloody battered and bruised with a nasty bump on the back of his head. At first mystified, he eventually realizes that the night before was spent in a total blackout. As if his current situation isn't bad enough, he receives the news that his ex wife has been found murdered, and a fantastic nail biting mystery is born!
Bloody Sunrise is Gregg Bell at his best with many twists and turns and a totally unexpected ending. I couldn't stop reading because I had to find out what was coming next. Already looking forward to the next one.

A MUST READ!!!
Denny, a Chicago fireman doesn’t know what to think when he opens his eyes and is covered in blood with a killer hangover. When the phone rings and he finds out that his ex-wife was murdered the night before. Denny knows the ex-husband is the number one suspect but he also knows that he still loved his ex and would have never hurt her let alone kill her.
Denny is now in a race to prove his innocence and to figure out what happened the night before he woke up covered in blood.
This book is full of suspense that will keep you turning pages until the final one, and keep you guessing until the very end.

Bloody Sunrise is a fantastic thriller/ mystery written by Greg Bell. It grabbed my attention on the first page and kept it throughout the book. I had a love /hate relationship with the main character. Sometimes he is a decent guy and other times just a jerk that couldn't control himself. The story was so twisty that I never figured out the mystery. I received an ARC [advanced readers copy] and I am grateful that I did. I plan to get my hubby to get me some books for my birthday and this one will be on my wish list. If you like a good thriller/ mystery, you need to read Bloody Sunrise

Good story. The suspense was there. I could not guess who the killer was. The plot was good too. You take the confused journey with Danny and then come the end. Wow I had to read that part twice to make sure I am not just seeing things. Awesome end to a good story. I guessed the end much different I have to say. Well written and keeps you guessing who the killer is.

Fast-paced highly enjoyable five star read!

The author offered an Advanced Readers Copy of his book in exchange for a review and when I read the premise I knew I had to read the book!

Chicago fireman Denny awakens with the worst hang-over of his life, covered in bloody scratches, with a huge lump on his head and no memory. The last thing he clearly remembers is having shots of tequila with some co-workers at their local hangout. He has vague flashes of arguing with someone, maybe he got into a fight. As he’s trying to put the pieces of his night together he receives a call from a fellow fireman telling him that his ex-wife has been murdered. A horrifying thought enters his mind…did he do it?

What follows is an intense, thrilling ride through the next few days of Denny’s life as he tries to prove to himself and the police that he didn’t.

The author has done a great job making Denny a very likable character in spite of his flaws and inner demons. I was drawn into his dilemma quickly and found myself rooting for him every step of the way, even trying to warn him of his missteps. The book grabbed me and would not let go, I didn’t want to stop reading even when I could barely keep my eyes open. There are plenty of twists and turns in this psychological mystery to keep you intrigued to the very end. I’m very glad to have found this author and have already purchased more of his books.
