Hot Shot Lincoln U-Ice Hockey
Taking The Shot Book 3
Another 5 Star ⭐️ fun sports romance! Dylan is a senior at Lincoln and she and Bass play ice hockey for the university. This is a hot and fun enemies to lovers sports romance ❤️🔥
There is a past history between them, but the way he romances her is so emotional and sweet romance!!
So much action and romance in the storyline
I just loved Dylan and Bass! Dylan has a twin sister Drew who also plays hockey. I love the way MJ Fields writes! Her narrative and attention to each character in the storyline. You can feel the tension and emotion Dylan and Bass have , and the secondary characters add to the book! I think this is going to be my favorite in the series! I loved ❤️❤️ the ending so much and of course I highly recommend it.
This book is a super winning Goal for me!

Hot Shot by MJ Fields is my very first hockey romance and I was not disappointed. This is the third book in the Taking the Shot Series which I cannot wait to go back and read.

Dylan and her twin sister Drew are the best players on their hockey team the Lincoln Lions. Drew gets injured during a game and Dylan gets into a fight defending her. Her punishment for the fight she loses he spot at nationals, she got suspended for a few games and she has to tutor Bass.

Bass is finishing his final semester at Lincoln University, his coach insists he needs a tutor to raise his GPA in statistics. With NHL dreams hanging in the balance, he has no choice, but to agree to a tutor.

Bass and Dylan grew up together. Her dad owned an ice rink where they used to skate and race when they were younger. Bass being the charming man’s that he is was persistent and kept being there for Dylan and broke through that shell.

I enjoyed this book. I giggled at the skunk part in the beginning and laughed when they scared him with the masks. I think the story was great, love that humor was incorporated, and the tension between Bass and Dylan was just right. Thank you so much to MJ Fields and Wordsmith Publicity for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC for my honest review.

Received an ARC for my honest review!

I love the Lincoln U universe and I think this one is my favorite so far!
Bass is struggling in a class and Dylan has to tutor him because her hockey coach has forced her to. She and Bass have some history and don’t like each other. However, a little snowed in fun and friends with benefits situation turns into love!

No third act conflict.
Both Main Characters are hockey players (she is on the women’s, him the men’s)
Both are pierced
HEA guaranteed!

Definitely recommend!!

Hot Shot is the third book in the Taking the Shot series by M.J. Fields, featuring a steamy enemies to lovers hockey romance for Bass and Dylan. Dylan and and her twin sister Drew rule the ice on the women’s hockey team, but Drew is targeted for injury in a game, Dylan sees red. No one messes with her teammate, especially when it’s her sister. Her punishment for fighting is to tutor the bane of her existence… Bass, a sexy player on the men’s team that has been razzing her since they raced each other as kids. She despises male athletes, but she can’t seem to stay away from him. They made a friends with benefits agreement, but feelings start to grow. Will they be able to build something lasting?

I was so ready for Bass’ story, and it did not disappoint!! I loved the enemies to lovers aspect with the angst and the feisty and hostile banter that was basically foreplay!! The chemistry between Bass and Dylan is undeniable and fully spicy!!🔥🔥 Dylan is a straight up boss that I loved cheering on, and while she is a bit rough around the edges she has a heart of gold. Bass is protective, funny, caring, and so hot! The supporting characters are excellent in this series, bringing comedy, action on the ice, and that supportive found family vibe. Honestly, this book brought it all— I laughed, I swooned, I blushed, and I teared up. I know Theo’s book is next, and I’m intrigued, but I can’t tell you how much I’m dying to read a story for Dean!! I’m praying there will be spin-off or something!🙏🏻😂

I received a free ARC, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Enemies, forced-proximity, Hot Headed, Tensions and more… Another hat trick!

Hot Shot (ARC)
Author: MJ Fields
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dylan Daniels and her twin I absolutely loved from start to finish. They are such strong, amazing, bright, and driven women that drive this book. Dylan is this grumpy, fire that has a hot tempered women’s hockey player. She had an absolutely fierce protectiveness over her teammates on and off the ice. But ultimately drives each and every player she encounters towards success.

Whereas Bass is this kind, driven, hockey player. He’s been drafted by a team already but through situations and circumstances finds himself being forced into close proximity with Dylan.

Because of previous issues and the past itself Bass and Dylan originally don’t get along. But this driven need to prove himself as a decent, kind, perfect man Bass wins Dylan over and they begin dating. While I would have enjoyed a bit more with their at school rivalry and more tensions I enjoyed reading this one.

This story is packed with family, with a bit of tension. Violence on the ice, tempers flaring, temptation and a little bit of fear sprinkled in… poor Bass! This one is a great continuation of the “Taking the Shot Series” but also would be a great stand alone.

Dylan is a feisty hockey player on the female team, and when her teammate and twin sister is hurt on the ice, she goes ballistic. As part of her punishment, she is forced to tutor Bass. He’s a hockey player on the men’s team, a player off field, and the two of them have history. Can these two get past their history and work together?

Dylan is feisty and angry, and one huge firecracker. The way in which Bass comes to help her is cute and shows what a good guy he is. The story moves along quickly, with lots of spice and action to heat things up. There a lots of side characters, who are all supportive and wonderful friends. The dialogue, for me, was a little hard to follow sometimes as I have not read the other books in this series but I still enjoyed these characters and their story. I will venture back to the other books in this series because I enjoyed reading this one.

The banter is good, the spice is spicy and the story good. Overall, I enjoyed this one and highly recommend.

3.5 ⭐️ I was given the opportunity to read the eARC copy of this book from Wordsmith Publicity for an honest review.

Let me just say I wasn’t prepared for all the tension that Bass and Dylan had. Childhood friends in the past, Bass and Dylan end up attending the same college and avoid each other as much as possible. Dylan and her twin sister, Drew, are the best of the women’s hockey team. Bass is also really great on the men’s hockey team. After a fight on the rink, which Drew was just defending her sister, she ends up having to tutor Bass as punishment so that he can keep his grades up. Spending time together is the worst, but they both end up finding themselves falling for each other. They say it’s a one time thing, but then it becomes more complicated than that.

This was my first hockey romance and I really enjoyed it! It was super fast paced and I loved that it’s a stand-alone and not confusing if you haven’t read the rest of the series. I can’t wait to read the next one and more from this author!

I loved this book!

Dylan Daniels, is a strong a confident college senior. She is one of the stars of the Women’s hockey team. When a fight in the ice, protecting her sister, costs her a spot of the National team she is determined to make the most of her remaining season. That is until she has to tutor her least favorite male athlete.

Bass Giulietti has been caring for his family ever since a tragic accident almost cost the everything. Determined to never fall in love, he shocked when he’s told he needs a tutor. In walks in the one person who he never expected.

5 hockey loving stars!

You will fall in love with Bass and Dylan, what can I say, I love a string willed character and she is this in spades. I loved seeing previous characters and can’t wait for the others to get their stories. Especially Drew and Dean????

Dylan and Bass sucked me in from the start! I absolutely LOVED Dylan’s character. When she throws down to protect a loved one she ends up not only in the penalty box but her spot on the women’s hockey team. Her punishment is tutor Bass, a player on and off the ice, but something about Dylan has him wanting more. I absolutely loved these two. The sexual tension had me in the edge of my seat and their banter was addicting.

**ARC REVIEW**
Hot Shot is book #3 in the Lincoln U - Ice Hockey romance series by MJ Fields ! This was my first book by MJ Fields and it did not disappoint! This was really easy to read as a standalone since I hadn't read the first two books in the series

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🔥🔥🔥

If you like these tropes, you will enjoy reading this book :)
-Enemies to Lovers
-Sports Romance (Hockey)
-Pierced 🐓
-Girls rule the ice
-Childhood Rivalry
-Twin Sisters
-Animal Lovers

Dylan Daniels and her twin sister, Drew Daniels, are hockey players on the women’s team for Lincoln University. Drew gets injured by one of the girls in the opposition team and Dylan stands up for her sister and in the process gets in trouble for it. She was a fiery one and she was not happy when she gets punished for her actions by having to sit out a few games and also tutor her sworn enemy, Sebastian Giulietti.

Sebastian Giulietti, aka Bass, is also an ice hockey player who is the left winger for the men's team for Lincoln U. He has known Dylan and her sister since they were children growing up in the same town. Due to a slight misunderstanding he also hates Dylan. I love that even though they weren't friends, he still thought what Dylan did was bada$$. He is currently failing Statistics II and he has to be tutored by none other than Dylan!

Can they truly bury the hatchet or will they really kill each other? You will have to read to find out!

This book was such a nice change for a hockey romance to have a FMC who is a hockey player! I loved the character of Dylan as she didn't put up with any sh** and she stood for what she believes in and for the person who means the most of her, her twin sister. Dylan also has a sweet caring side when she rescues a skunk at the side of the road, getting sprayed in the process haha. Also, I could not stop laughing at the name of the animals at her parents house.

I thought Bass's chracter was hilarious! He seems like a tough guy, playboy, from the outside but deep down he is a little scaredy-cat of the dark haha. Also, what he did for his mum was a beautiful gesture! Every time he said something in Italian I swooned! I loved his nickname for Dylan - Little Queen!!!!

The spicy moments were so good!! Who knew piecing's would be so hot!!! Also, I don't think I will be looking at cannoli's the same again.

Overall, this was a great book but I just wish there was just a little bit more of the tutoring side of the storyline! I am so happy I picked this book up and I look forward to whatever is next from MJ :)

Thank you so much to MJ and Wordsmith Publicity for kindly sending me this arc to read and review. This review is my own honest opinion on the book.

Hot Shot – Taking The Shot #3 – Review

Author: M.J. Fields

Couple: Dylan & Bass

Tropes: hockey romance, college romance, found family, enemy to lovers, forced proximity, fiery FMC, frenemies with benefits, he falls first

Review: M.J. Fields delivers another terrific hockey romance in book 3 of this series! Bass and Dylan are a couple that will last in your head for days after finishing their book and leave you wishing for more. This romance features so many differences from normal hockey romances and I loved every minute!

Dylan is a female hockey player and her character was epic in this book. While I loved Bass and all his antics, I equally loved Dylan and her growth throughout this book. MJ did a phenomenal job with depicting her moral dilemma of wanting to be a hardened player on the ice but also accepting her softer feminine side. I enjoyed how she was not the typical FMC for this genre and felt like she added new level of complexity to her story arc. I also fell in love with the relationship she had with her twin sister in this book. The addition of the sisterly bond MJ intertwines in this book elevates Dylan’s character a ton and to me makes her more personable.

Bass is my favorite MMC in this series so far. I enjoyed how much he pushed Dylan to be herself and not make herself smaller to be accepted by others. I also enjoyed how he slowly broke down her walls and became her person. The misunderstanding they had during their childhood years also added to his character since we learn it was never him that led Dylan astray. One thing I appreciated in this book was the inclusion of Bass’ teammates. The comradery they all had added a sense of levity to the story and I enjoyed how we get a sneak peak of what their future holds at the end.

Bass and Dylan are perfectly matched and I enjoyed the buildup of tension between them. They begin as more of an enemy to lovers feel and end up as friends first at the end. I felt like Dylan added a lot to the overall romance of the book since Bass brings out her softer side. MJ develops their relationship well and the steam is a great addition to the story.

Rating: 10/10, BASS is here to STAY!!

3.5 stars.

Hot Shot is the third book in the Taking the Shot series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Dylan and her twin sister, Drew, are hockey players on the women’s team for Lincoln University. But when Drew gets targeted during a game, Dylan rushes to her defense and subsequently gets punished. Her punishment? She has to sit out on a few games and tutor Bass, a hockey player on the men’s team, and a guy she hates.

Dylan and Bass grew up together, so they knew each other from childhood. But something happened to cause Dylan to hate Bass. Now, as his tutor, she can't avoid him.

Dylan was a total bada**. From the start, she shows just how protective she is over her sister. No one hurts her sister and gets away with it. She stood her ground and gave real reasons for why she retaliated. Also, she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and call people out on their bullsh*t. For example, she stated that had one of the men done what she did, their punishment wouldn’t have been as severe as hers was. She wasn’t wrong and no one could deny that. She wasn’t a b*tch though. She had fun, and her little pranks were funny.

Bass was a cocky playboy, and he didn’t want a tutor, but he accepted that he needed one to ensure he could get the grades. He didn’t like Dylan because she hated him, yet there was a part of him that cared because he tried to keep her safe. (Not that she needed his help and made sure he knew that.)

I loved the banter between Dylan and Bass. They just knew how to throw it back at each other. I also liked seeing their connection grow after they spent more time together. Also, Bass was actually sweet and always helping Dylan out of tough spots. Meanwhile, Dylan was able to open up and show Bass that she does have a softer side. Also, the reason Dylan hated Bass was because one of his "friends" lied (when they were children), which made me mad. But I'm glad it was cleared up. Oh, and when Bass spoke Itlian? *swoon*.

Anyway, this story was fast-paced, and I enjoyed it. I love that they were able to clear the air and have fun with each other. Honestly, Dylan is probably one of my favorite FMCs.

Book: Hot Shot
Author: MJ Fields
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I was given the opportunity to receive the arc for Hot Shot. It is my first book that I’ve ever read by MJ Fields. Hot Shot is the third book in the Taking the Shot series. This book takes you on a journey between 2 college ice hockey players who know each other from when they were younger but despised each other. Bass is a “hot shot” player on the men’s hockey team who refuses to fall in love or make a commitment. Dylan is the best player on the women’s hockey team who hates male athletes.

Dylan is a little rough around the edges, she does not put up with any disrespect to her or her friends/family, but she has a heart of gold. Dylan and her twin sister Drew are the best of the women’s hockey team. After a fight during a game, in which Dylan was just defending her sister, her teammate, Dylan has to tutor Bass as punishment so he can bring his grades and the hockey team's GPA up. Bass is a funny, protective, sexy, and caring MC who falls very quickly for Dylan even though he tries to shut it down.

There is no denying the chemistry between Dylan and Bass even though they try to avoid it until they can’t any longer. Once they give in, it's game over for them both. I enjoyed the banter between them. Dylan and her sassy, witty comebacks to try and deter Bass away, which by the way didn’t work, it had the complete opposite effect on Bass. Watching Bass and Dylan go from enemies to “friends with benefits” to lovers was the sweetest journey. The book had me laughing throughout it all. I love spice but felt like it was very spice heavy and less plot but I still enjoyed reading about all the characters, even the supporting ones, who are all like family to each other. The comradery between the teams is amazing.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading a book that showcased women’s hockey so prominently not just men’s. I love that both MCs were hockey players who fell for each other.

Dual POV & HEA

🇵🇱🇴🇹 & 🇷🇪🇻🇮🇪🇼

I didn’t think a couple could top the first two books in the Lincoln U series, but whew was I wrong!

Captain of the women’s hockey team, Dylan is a force to be reckoned with with a hint of anger issues and a grudge against a certain player on the school's men's hockey team, Bass. After a fight during a game Dylan’s punishment is to tutor Bass, the boy she’s hated since adolescence. Broody Bass doesn't believe in love and all his friends have recently entered relationships. The last thing he wants to do his senior season is be tutored by Dylan. After a snow storm forces the two to spend the night together, they can't put off their chemistry any longer.

Bass and Dylan were everything. From their quick back and forth banter to how easily they fall for eachother. I was engaged and ready to turn to page to see how their relationship blossomed from page to page. The respect Bass had for not only Dylan but her twin sister Drew was awesome to see. It was so fun seeing the characters from the first two books interact with Dylan and her teammates, the girls hockey team. I loved seeing a book that showcased women's hockey so prominently, women in sports will always be a must read for me.

The majority of the book takes place over the span of a couple weeks. If you have not read the first two books you may be confused for the first few chapters as it is in the same timeline as book #2 in the series - Snap Shot. This however can be read as a standalone if you can get past not really knowing the backstory for some of the characters in the first few chapters. I love that there is no third act breakup or OWD.

I can’t wait to read Theo’s book when it comes out in October!

Hot Shot: Lincoln U-Ice Hockey (Taking the Shot Book by M J Fields) is a sports romance between hockey center Bass and Dylan, the women’s hockey team captain. Dylan and Bass have a childhood history that changed Dyan. Her girly middle school crush quickly soured into hating all athletes, especially Bass. Because of Dylan and Bass’s screw-ups of Dylan’s last fight on the ice after her sister Drew was deliberately hurt by another player and Bass’s less than stellar grade average in statistics, the coaches insist that Dylan tutor Bass for two hours, two times a week. Tutoring was being enforced by a contract devised by both team’s coaches that Dylan and Bass each had to sign to continue playing hockey with their respective teams.
Suddenly, Bass and Dylan began to keep running into each other everywhere before tutoring was even to start. Once, Bass took care of an inebriated Dylan at a New Year’s Eve party, then he helped her and her sister, Drew, out when Bass saw they had had a fender bender on a snow-covered slick road. Ahhh, then heat begins to sizzle between Dylan and Bass when he stays at the farmhouse with the girls while the parents are out of town. Both have emotional scars and baggage that infers with their new status. This story includes friends from past books, an emotional roller coaster from laughing to saying “why” to their well-crafted HEA to end and leaving one wanting the next new book about the next hockey player. M. J. Field’s hockey sports romances are books the reader wants to own and feels compelled to read all her books to have more from this author.

This book is f****** Amazing!!! 🏒🏒🏒

Bass needs help passing a class, Dylan has her a** handed to her due to an incident on the ice, and now she has to tutor Bass. Dylan and Bass have history. They are enemies, but not really. However, through some recent turn of events, Bass and Dylan are forced together, and things escalate pretty quickly....

I think my favourite thing about this book is Dylan's fierce spirit and the banter between Bass and herself. Don't get me wrong, Bass is amazing all on his own, but when he and Dylan are together, they are fire 🔥🔥🔥😏😏😏

The friendships that Dylan forms with Bass's friends are beautiful, especially Dean. I also thought it was great to see that the men cheered on the woman and the woman cheered on the men. It felt right. Everything was equal as it should be.

It was nice to see a softer side to Dylan. Her tough exterior is a little bit of a show, and it was lovely to see Bass break those walls. Dylan is a good influence on Bass. She was able to get him to see past his trauma and realise that people do change for the better.

MJ did such an amazing job of this book. 🩷🩷🩷

M.J. Fields gets a hat trick with book three in the Taking The Shot Series, HOT SHOT. Left Wing of the Lincoln Lions men’s hockey team, Sebastian (Bass) Giulietto, gets in trouble for bringing down the men’s hockey team GPA. He is required to get a tutor for the semester.

Center of the Lincoln Lions women’s hockey team Dylan Daniels gets suspended for getting in a fight for defending her twin sister, Drew, after she was injured in a game. Part of Dylan’s punishment is she must tutor Bass in Statistics II for the next semester. The problem is Bass and Dylan have known each other since they were kids, and she dislikes him.

Bass is the teammate/roommate of Leo (LONG SHOT, Taking The Shot #1) and Evan (SNAP SHOT, Taking The Shot #2).

M.J. Fields does a great job with this story. Bass and Dylan have amazing chemistry. They are fun characters. Their conversations (even to themselves) are amusing. Bass is always getting Dylan out of trouble. I could relate to Bass’ love of list and Dylan’s love of animals.

Bass was drafted to the Brooklyn Bears. Plus, there were some other interesting things regarding the Bears in this story. I am really hoping there is a Bear’s spin off series.

I am looking forward to Theo Rivera’s book next FLIP SHOT. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I was given an eARC copy of this book from WordSmith Publicity for an honest review.

Wow. I wasn't prepared going into this book haha Bass and Dylan are hella steamy, and they super hate each other. And they attack each other that way. The sex is almost revenge-like for a while. I found myself clenching my teeth 'cause I thought one might start biting the other haha!

Friends when they were kids, Bass and Dylan end up at the same college and try their best to avoid each other, like, all the time. Dylan and her twin sister, Drew, are the stars of the women's hockey team, and Bass is on the men's team. After a fight on the ice (defending her sister!), Dylan is "punished" by having to tutor Bass so he can keep his grades up. Spending time together is torture, but Bass can't keep his feelings in check, and Dylan finds herself falling, as well. All the banter and cutthroat comments overflow into a "we just need to get this out of our system" night. But then they realize, as Bass put it, "they are fire in bed." haha

This one went so quickly at the end! But I guess it was really fitting, as Bass and Dylan were the least likely to stay together, as it were. I love these characters, this college setting and the teams created in this world. I can't wait for the next one! I see potential for a spin-off series, too....

Dylan Daniels just lost her shot at nationals and to make matters worse she now has to tutor the biggest player on the men’s team, and her enemy, or get kicked off the team. Bass Giulietti’s NHL dreams are hanging on his being able to pull his grades up and that means he will have to accept help from one person who’s had it out for him since they were kids at her father’s rink.

This book is one of those examples of why I love college romance! Dylan and Bass both bring the heat that makes for fantastic banter and such a playful relationship. I love how consistently Bass builds Dylan up and lends support when she needs it, even when she’s still frozen him out. This is the first story I’ve read with both a men’s and women’s hockey player and I loved how passionately they supported each other. The found family element of Dylan and Bass’ story with how they bound together for their teammates was so heartwarming. I had such a great time reading devouring this story and will definitely be reading more of the series!

Hot Shot #3 in Taking the Shot Series by MJ Fields.

5⭐️
3.5🌶️

Tropes

Enemies to lovers
Sports romance (both MCs)
College romance
He falls first (hard)
Opposites attract

This is Bass’s story and I’m so happy because I think he is my favourite so far! He looks like a bad boy but inside he is a really good guy. He stands up for what he believes in and is vocal about it. He calls bullsh*t when he sees it and isn’t afraid to back his friends or “enemy” up when necessary.

Dylan is also a hockey player who has a quick temper that flares at the smallest provocation. She and Bass are thrown together and neither are happy about it.

But as luck or fate would have it they keep crossing paths and they end up being unable to deny their chemistry (which is explosive)! They are definitely fife together and I am here for it!

Bass has so many hidden qualities and am so glad he does. It really shines a light into his personality especially from what we see of him in the previous books. I would love an epilogue but maybe when the series is complete there will be one for each of the books.

Each book is a connected standalone and I suggest starting with book one, Leo and Ellie’s story. I highly recommend reading this book and series.

This book is a college hockey romance that features a very fierce FMC who will do anything and everything to keep the people she loves safe, or defend them from a big scary hockey player that decides to break your leg during a hockey game for "unknown reasons'. Dylan Daniels is one of the fiercest FMC's I've read about in a long time and really reminded me how much I love that in an FMC. Her and Bass's story was such a fun read! The friends-> enemies-> lovers of it all had me wanting to read more and know more about their past and what made Dylan dislike Bass so much when all he seemed to do was want to show her how much he's always loved her. This is a very fast moving relationship that they build over a semester at school, but they had known each other since they were young and Bass skated at her families ice rink. I honestly wish that there was more to their backstory because I always love that part of stories and that is kind of why I ultimately rated it 4/5 stars. I will say the banter between the MC's was so good and had me giggling on multiple occasions. And the spice was good as well!

Definitely would recommend this book if you love hockey romances and strong FMC's!!

I kind of felt like I fell into the middle of Dylan and Sebastian's story. She hated him for some reason and I was never really sure why. Her twin, Drew, is injured and she sticks up for her. Poof, her dreams of playing on the national team went up in smoke. She has a huge chip on her shoulder and seems to be only interested in taking her anger out on others. Bass steps up and tries to help her multiple times. I did like that he called her out on her ice queen drama. Both of them were trying to complete their senior year of college and win the title for their respective teams. It is true that women's teams are much less funded and not nearly as coveted at men's teams. I will say that I have been a hockey fan for my entire life so the ending for Dylan was just way too unrealistic for me to even pretend that would happen. There were several times where words were missing in sentences. I also had a few moments in this book where I was unsure who was speaking, and about whom they were speaking. I did like the book but wanted a bit more of seeing them grow together than the HFN I was left with.

This third installment in the Lincoln U series was a pretty good read. In this installment we get Bass and Dylan's story.

In a forced proximity/enemies to lovers read, this book was a well written and entertaining read. Bass - roommate and teammate of Leo and Evan - main characters from the first two books of this series - is forced to get tutored due to his low GPA in Statistics.

Dylan, player on the women's hockey team is being punished into tutoring Bass after a fight during a game when she was defending not only her injured teammate but also her twin sister. The only problem is that the pair have known each other since childhood and this is a true punishment since she can't stand him.

The banter between the characters was enjoyable and the chemistry between them was off the charts. I enjoyed the characters and the supporting characters. The story moved along well and kept me interested throughout this read. Overall, this was a good read that I enjoyed from start to finish leaving me looking forward to the next book in this series.

3.5 stars | 2.5 spice

I was so excited to have been given an ARC for this new release by MJ Fields. This is my first book by her and I didn't realize this is the 3rd book in this series. This can be read as a standalone!

If I'm being completely honest, I didn't love the book. There were some big disconnects with the characters and the storyline. I don't know if I missed it in the beginning of the book, but when Bass and Dylan first hooked up, I was not expecting it to happen. There was no mention of Bass being attracted to Dylan or vice versa the way that I'm used to in a romance novel.

That being said, the book did have some great moments woven throughout the story. I loved the women empowerment/women supporting women narrative and how MJ Fields shone a light on the differences in women's and men's sports. I loved that Bass spoke italian, and spoke to Dylan in the language. I loved that Bass took care of his little sisters and stepped up when his family needed him to. I loved the twin sister storyline between Dylan and Drew. I also loved the closeness between the men's and women's teams and their support of one another.

Thank you to Wordsmith Publicity and MJ Fields for the ARC book!

4.5⭐️ Hot Shot is my favourite book of this series so far!!!

Dylan Daniels is stunning and spirited, and a talented player on the Lincoln’s women’s ice hockey team. She’s a force to be reckoned with, she potentially has anger issues, but is more like she’s just totally passionate about hockey and her team. She find herself in trouble for fighting on the ice which really was her sticking up for a team mate (and twin sister) who was deliberately targeted and horribly injured by a player on the opposing team. Part of her punishment includes tutoring the biggest player in the Lincoln’s men’s ice hockey team, Bass Giulietti, so that he passes a subject he’s currently failing.

These two go way back…

They’ve known each other since they were kids…

And in the last almost forever since they were kids, Dylan’s been holding a grudge against Bass…

Forced proximity could be a problem for them…

There’s a whole lot of tension. And it’s kind of hot!

Things escalate pretty quickly and things get seriously steamy, and Dylan has to admit that she just might like him more than she hates him.

I greatly enjoyed Dylan and Bass's story. They have known each other since they were kids but a falling out and some life events has caused them to grow apart. When Dylan's twin, Drew, is hurt during a hockey game, she gets payback on the girl who had puposely caused the injury. Dylan's punishment is being suspended from playing the next two games and being assigned to tutor Bass in Statistics for the next quarter. Bass needs to bring up his grade to keep from bringing down his team's GPA. Bass is not sure exactly why Dylan hates him so much, but the feeling is not mutual. When he gets stuck at their family home due to bad weather, and a Good Samaritan act, things start to heat up a little in their relationship.

These two are great for each other and there are some surprises at the end of the book that will make you smile. I really like this series. The camaraderie and support amongst the Men's and Women's hockey team members is uplifting. Enjoy. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Hot Shot is book 3 of Taking The Shot series and is Dylan and Bass’ story.

Dylan Daniels along with her twin sister are the Queens of Lincoln U’s women’s ice hockey team and I like that we get the women’s take in a sports focused book this time, showing the cross-over in women’s/men’s teams, as the H in the book - Bass plays in the men’s team.

The characters have a past, knowing each other since they were kids, but unknown why to Bass, Dylan really doesn’t like him
and because of this they do their best to avoid each other, that is until coach tells Bass he needs to improve his grades or his NHL dreams could come crashing down and you’ve guessed it, Dylan is asked to tutor him.

As always with books by MJ, they take you through the emotions - laughter, wittiness, action and of course the spice and let’s not forget the side characters, who are integral to the story.

This series are all standalone books but as they’re inter-connected I do recommend reading them in order. Once again MJ you slayed this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bass & Dylan = a hot mess😜

Dylan can’t stand men athletes.

Her and her twin sister (Drew) both play hockey. Drew gets hurt during a game and Dylan goes after the player that hurt her.

Bass plays hockey on the men’s team and he ends up needing to be tutored for a class. Since Dylan reacted the way she did on the ice she is being forced to tutor Bass…

She is not thrilled to say the least…

She goes from ice queen to little queen as her nickname!

Bass is super sweet and goes out of his way multiple times to help and do things for Dylan and Drew.

One night at the farmhouse during a snow storm changes everything…

Bass starts to fall hard for her and is sick of their little list.. So he speaks up about how he feels about her..

I love how they say “I love you stupid hard”
I love how fierce Dylan is. She is bad ass.
I love how she made Bass want to say those words after he said he NEVER would..
I love their connection.
I love that they both play hockey.
