The Other Side is one of the two ending credits songs of Trolls World Tour, alongside Don't Slack.

The song is heard during the introduction of the movie, when Cloud Guy is recapping the events of Poppy and Branch becoming best friends in the first movie Trolls. It makes use of a number of common metaphors and phrases to explain or give advice to the listener what they are doing right and wrong.

The song in the context of the movie is a nod to how blinded all the Trolls were and their inability to connect with each other such as Poppy and Barb's contradictory and equally misguided points of view on the other Trolls.

You're preachin' to the choir, stop hatin' on yourself
Quit playin' with your mind, you're spinnin'
If you think that I'm a liar, just try it for yourself
The clouds will open up, blue skies are willing
Yeah, I know it's so hard to throw away
The clouds will open up, blue skies are willing

Back on your feet again, lift your head, hold it high
You wanna run it back, but you can't turn the time
You start to feel like you're losing your shine
But the grass ain't always greener on the other side
Other side, got you stuck in your mind
You start to feel like you're losing your shine
But the grass ain’t always greener on the other side

Hey you, stop stressin' 'bout what you’re missin'
So blue, just take it easy, take your time
If you think my words are wise, just try it for yourself
I promise the stars will light the path you walk
Don't give in
Got a heart of gold, what a shame to go to waste
The clouds will open up, blue skies are willing

Back on your feet again, lift your head, hold it high
You wanna run it back, but you can't turn the time
You start to feel like you’re losing your shine
(Losing your shine, shine)
But the grass ain't always greener on the other side
Other side
(Feet again, lift your head, hold it high)
Got you stuck in your mind
(Run it back, but you can't turn the time)
You start to feel like you're losing your shine
But the grass ain't always greener on the other side

Just take it from me, you'll be okay
(You'll be okay)
'Cause it don't matter how sweet it taste
(How sweet it taste)
The grass ain't green, don't worry
Losin' sleep, still wanna get
Yeah, you get

Back on your feet again, lift your head, hold it high
You wanna run it back, but you can't turn the time
You start to feel like you’re losing your shine
But the grass ain't always greener on the other side
The other side

You start to feel like you're losing your shine
But the grass ain't always greener on the other side

Trivia

  • "Preaching to the choir" means to tell someone something they already know, believe, or accept.
    • The term comes from the workings of a church, wherein the priest stands in front of the congregation and preaches to them the word of their religious text. The choir is merely the vocal group that often stands either behind or to the side of the priest and sings hymns and other religious songs. If the priest is preaching to the choir, they are facing the wrong way and are ignoring their congregation and therefore failing as a priest.
  • "Stop hatin' yourself" refers to self loathing, which is when someone hates who they are based upon things they cannot control in their life such as events that have occurred to them or the limitations of who they are.
  • "Losing your shine" refers to the idea of something of value losing its quality, such as precious gems or metal or a star in the night sky, devaluing it. It is often applied to people to say they are losing their value or what makes them special.
  • "Back on your feet" means to return to normal after a bad experience. It refers to being picked up after someone trips over so they can keeping walking on their way as they were.
  • "Can't turn back time" usually refers to the inability to correct past mistakes made by someone, in other words they cannot go back and undo the things they've done.
  • "The grass is greener on the other side" refers to how people often view someone else's life as better then their own. For example, someone who's poor envying envies someone who's rich for their wealth, under the belief that their money brings them an easier life. And likewise, someone rich envying someone who's poor because of their simpler lifestyle with less responsibilities. The reality of the scenario is quite often; neither "side" is better off overall than the other, and both have equal perks and flaws.
  • "A heart of gold" means that the person is a good person who is kind natured.
  • "Losin' sleep" is normally a sign of a person who has trouble thoughts. If a person goes to bed with negative thoughts in their head, they do not relax and do not sleep as a result.
