Holly Darlin' is a character from Trolls: TrollsTopia. She is the ambassador of the Country Troll Tribe in TrollsTopia.

She later appeared in the 3D animation Trolls: Holiday in Harmony alongside Val Thundershock, marking the first example of characters transferring from 2D to 3D and the first time a character has gone from 2D canon to 3D canon.

Appearance
[]

Normal
Holly Darlin' is an orange-skinned Country Troll with large light blue hair styled into a beehive with a ponytail with two purple stripped ties. Her tail has the same light blue color. Her eyes and nose are blue and her hooves are of a darker tone. She wears a white top with a ruffle and pink rim that exposes her midriff, blue denim jeans and a brown belt with a silver horseshoe shaped buckle in it.

Normal

A brief scrapbook appearance of Holly is seen in the stories "Poppy's Hair Scare Solution" and "Poppy's Sad Song Switcheroo".

She appears the same as in Trolls: TrollsTopia. Holly is shown to be shorter the Delta Dawn in the special, and seems to look chubbier than her 2D appearance. In her clothing, however, her belly is not too much exposed.

Trolls: TrollsTopia[]

Holly is the fast-talking delegate from the Country tribe and is a southern spitfire! Everything about Holly is big-big energy, big heart and big hair.[1]

—Hulu, 2020

Personality
[]

Holly Darlin' is a happy Troll who is known for being so overly friendly that if someone gives her a gift, she will give them back one that is even bigger and more splendorous. She can even outdo Poppy in that aspect, as she was able to top any gift given to her by the Queen of the Pop Trolls. She is a hard worker, and a enthusiastic perfectionist at times. She is open at times about her feelings, and if something or someone is cute to her, she will say it is.

However, despite her overly friendly attitude, Holly can be quite harsh to those who wrong her. Even if she doesn't show any anger towards them, she can unleash a look of disappointment that can actually hurt those who receive it. In fact, the only known individual who was able to make her mad with was Cloud Guy. Holly overreacts in situations by going to extreme lengths, and doesn't always think before acting. She often bounces back from her disappointments and anger by re-focusing on new things to keep her going.

She doesn't like complicated things and was put off by Queen Poppy's explanation of the Glitterborne Chronicles book series just by how in-depth it was.

Relationships
[]

Friends[]

Queen Poppy[]

Holly and Poppy get along very well. Holly's positivity can outdo Poppy's. Though they both have their different interests, Poppy often finds Holly which is one of the Trolls most supportive of TrollsTopia's success and she is fairly dependable. Where they fall apart is that a lot of Holly's flaws are also Poppy's. They mean well but can be too polite and considerate of the others' feelings to say what they need to say, so in their worry about about hurting the others' feelings they fail to communicate well. At times, they fail to be honest and open with each other, despite being two of the most open characters in the series. In "The Fabyrinth", Holly entered the BFF Zone with Poppy and Val as the trio grew close to each other in their time in TrollsTopia.

Branch[]

In some episodes, there are times where she calls Branch cute, and even affection names like "sugar" or "honey". They found out that they (as well as Laguna Tidepool, Lownote Jones, and Dante Crescendo) are both annoyed by Cloud Guy on a regular basis. In "Buckin' Branch", Holly was impressed with this skills and thought he should join the rodeo.

Val Thundershock[]

The two generally get along, but often come to misunderstandings. Val can push Holly's limits at times, causing Holly to have to reel her emotions in and force herself to not lose her temper. This was seen in "Cheery Glo-mato", when Val smashed her Cheery Glo-mato and Holly tried to keep her emotions under control. In "The Fabyrinth", Val entered the BFF Zone with Poppy and Holly as the trio grew close to each other in their time in TrollsTopia. The two clashed since both have a stubbornness and temperament at times equally on pair with each other. Despite their clashes of personalities, both care and support each other, as seen in "Surprise-O-Tron", where Holly admires Val's attempts to grow as a person.

Gust Tumbleweed[]

Holly is a close friend of Gust's, who is often seen with her in episodes he appears. They generally know a lot about each other and their habits and personalities. Holly often speaks about Gust when other Trolls have queries about him.

Minuet Sonata[]

The duo became friends in "Fastest Draw in the West" after they did a friendship crash course the day before which ended with the pair entering an argument. When they made up, they made a connection with each other. Holly and Minuet are part of the TrollsTopia Guess and Draw team "The Dream Team".

Satin & Chenille[]

Holly was assigned with Satin & Chenille in "The Buddy System" as part of Poppy and Branch's initial effort to get different Trolls to bond and become friends. They got along well, but still needed time to get to know each other.

Others[]

Cloud Guy

In "Cloud Control", Holly was revealed to be another Troll annoyed by Cloud Guy on a regular basis and he celebrated his "annoyversary" with her and the other Trolls he likes to annoy. He first came afoul of Holly when he stole the victory for her fourth cutie pageant right out from under her. His basis for annoying her seems to be because of how hard she works to achieve her goals and how she is easily annoyed at anyone who wrongs her.

Hollizabeth Darlintonshire

Hollizabeth is a counterpart of Holly from an alternate dimension. Despite Poppy and Guy Diamond not getting along with their counterparts from the same dimension, Holly and Hollizabeth got along fine, and after hearing Hollizabeth talk, Holly commented that she liked her.

Pushy Poppy

Pushy Poppy traveled alongside Hollizabeth and Dingy Diamond during Lownote Jones' scavenger hunt contest. In contrast to Hollizabeth, Holly didn't like Pushy Poppy at all, commenting she is her second favorite Poppy (Since Holly only knew 2 versions of Poppy, this meant Pushy Poppy was her least favorite version).

Family[]

Holly mentioned her father in "Rhythm & the Blues", but only noted that he made really good gravy. Meanwhile, her mother was mentioned in "Flyer's Ed".

Pets[]

Pigtail[]

Pigtail

Pigtail

Pigtail is Holly's pet Pig Critter as shown in "BPF". Holly missed her so asked for her to join her in TrollsTopia. She is a pig that Holly owns as her pet and BPF. Apparently, Pigtail ruins a lot of stuff of Holly's but Holly forgives her as their relationship matters more than the things she ruins.

According to "Truffle Trouble", Pigtail is just a baby. Pigtail is soon quite devious and will plot and disobey Holly, despite Holly being heavily concerned for Pigtail's wellbeing. Pigtail has great Truffle finding skills and although had an accident, did manage to find a number of Truffles for Dante Crescendo, leading the Classical Troll to comment on her skill in Truffle finding.

Skills & Abilities
[]

She has most normal Troll abilities, as well as the abilities of her Tribe.

She had used her hair to emulate horns to break down barriers, and once applied hair spray to increase its hardness for use as a high-power drill. In "Hairicane", it was shown that her hair twitches when a hairicane is nearby.

Music[]

She plays the acoustic guitar.

As a Country Troll, she is into Country and Western Music.

Holly's voice actress Megan Hilty believes that in terms of vocal range, she is a mezzo-soprano, presumably making Holly also a mezzo-soprano; though due to the voice acting, neither actor nor character are entirely true to the classification. Holly's singing voice tends not to go high, although it could because of Hilty's performance, who stated that she had to decide when to and not to yodel. Holly also doesn't do voice riffs because Hilty can't, and most of her singing is what sounds natural for Hilty's voice.[2]

Party Games[]

Holly, like many Trolls, loves games and is equally eager about them as Poppy is. She enjoys a lot of thrills and challenges that come with them. In "Rhythm & the Blues", Holly found Double Dutch no challenge and stated she had legs thus wanted four ropes to jump, while in "Laguna Tidepool & the Lost Game Room", both she and Poppy couldn't resist playing the Ultimate game.

While playing checkers in "The Not So Good Sport", she loses to Poppy, subsequently saying that she might not be good at that game.

In "The Search for Piece", Holly mentioned that she likes yo-yos.

Holly is the best Guess and Draw player of the Country Troll tribe, she and Minuet (who is the best player of the Classical Troll Tribe) are the "Dream Team" and the best duo at playing this particular game.

Events[]

Holly likes to partake in events such as the Country Corral Fair or cutie pageants. She has skills in dough craft and growing Cheery Glo-matoes.

Intelligence[]

Holly herself is a Troll of many talents, but like most of her Tribe prefers the simplisticity over complexicity. She often puts faith in traditional crafts over modern solutions, as seen in "The Fun Harvest". In "The Last Scrapbook", Poppy tried to introduce Holly to her love of the Glitterborne Chronicles, only for Holly to repeat "Y'all" in annoyance, and leave the library.

Mining[]

Holly is a expert miner, knowing how to mine for glitter as well as use TNT. What she is not good at is management of mined resources. In the episode "Glitter Rush", she helped Poppy with TrollsTopia being short of glitter, but then became very wasteful with the glitter she mined. The lack of glitter then caused her to become reckless and mine into red hot glitter flows while trying to get more.

Hair-styling[]

Holly considers herself an "amateur professional" at styling hair. Her specialty is really large hairstyles.

As seen in several episodes, such as "Mini Mini Golf" and "Art Breaker", Holly is proud of her own big hair.

Map Reading[]

In "The Fabyrinth", Holly uses a map to navigate Branch's labyrinth, but gets extremely lost. She confesses at the end of the episode she really can't read maps at all well.

Humor[]

In the episode "Don't Make Me Laugh!", she was chosen to represent the Country Trolls, her technique involved her pulling faces; she was beaten by Cooper when he put a mirror in front of herself causing her to laugh at her own silly face.

Vehicle Maneuver[]

In "Flyer's Ed", Holly attended Lownote Jones's flying lessons. She passed the class, but like most of the students came nowhere near Poppy or Val Thundershock's grades. It is unknown if she progressed in her vehicle maneuver skills beyond this.

Teaching[]

Holly was shown in "Life of Pie" to teach baking lessons to other Trolls, spreading the time-honors Country Trolls love of pie. Holly taught several recipes and note that (despite claiming otherwise) that pie making is complex. She becomes obsessed with teaching Branch how to bake after he intentionally resolved an issue she had with her own complex recipe. Her methods to teach him were extreme, she also could not accept that he would just throw a pie out nor let the talent go to waste, failing to understand his needs before her wishes for him to show off his talent.

Cooking and Baking[]

Holly is shown throughout the series to be a good cook. She likes to make various Country Western Tribe recipes such as curry and pies. She likes hot spicy food. She is a keen piemaker, who enjoys making her own recipes, but doesn't always finish them. She is also capable of making dough sculptures.

In "The Search for Piece", Holly admits that she never ate Rhythm's friendship cookie as she doesn't like Sniggerdoodles. She also doesn't like walnuts either.

Photography[]

In "Ready, Set, Calendar!", Holly and Guy Diamond were asked to complete the TrollsTopia calendar and both displays a knack for photography, only failing with 1 of their desired photographs. The pairing was based on Guy's expertise on photography and Holly's love of big ideas, and allowed the duo to come up with over the top photo concepts and execute them.

Medical Status and Issues
[]

Hair[]

In "Follicle Fitness", Dr. Moonbloom revealed that, due to its size, Holly's hair requires an overuse of hair products and the end result is poor quality hair. This forced her to give her hair a 6-week hair break and a subscription to the hairnasium. This proved quite exhausting as she lacked the strength and form of her hair. Though she almost gave up, she managed to strengthen it by her next check up and finally has healthy hair.

Trivia
[]

  • She, alongside Val, is the first character introduced in 2D animation to be transferred to the 3D canon. This reinforces that she exists in both timelines.
  • She is the third character in the franchise to have her parents mentioned or seen; the previous two cases were Smidge mentioning hers in Trolls: The Beat Goes On! and Cooper having his seen in Trolls World Tour. She's also the first Troll introduced in 2D animation under such circumstances.
  • Similarly to other characters introduced in Trolls: TrollsTopia as main representatives of their tribe, Holly and Gust are opposites. Holly is open-minded and emotionally expressive, while Gust is more reserved and serious.
