The Secret Lives of Buildings: From the Ruins of the Parthenon to the Vegas Strip in Thirteen Stories:
"A book more concerned with sounding clever than imparting knowledge, this feels to me like it was written by someone as a personal goal, rather than because they thought is would be a good book for others to read. Although with the tone throughout, I"

I wanted to like this so much, but the writing and descriptions were repetitious and the "storytelling" was uneven. It felt like Hollis was trying to make each place so magical, but he got caught up in trying too hard to be creative that he missed th ...more | |

“I hated that the soldier doll had my name. I mean, please. I didn't play with him much. He was another Christmas present from my clueless grandparents. One time when they were visiting, my grandpa asked me if G.I. Joe had been in any wars lately. I said, "No, but he and Ken got married last week." Every Christmas since then, my grandparents have sent me a check.”

Hmm...I feel bad reading graphic novels to hit my 2009 goal of 250 books. I'm only doing the first book so I don't completely pad the total, but I still kinda need to read more actual novels. Not that graphic novels aren't legitimate fiction or anything, and I know a lot of kids like them, but I just feel like I'm cheating, y'know?
Okay! I will finish a "real" book today! I will I will I will! (goes, grabs one, and subsequently falls asleep on the couch)
