The Goddess Of

No gods or curses will keep them from each other.

Naia, the daughter of the High Sea Goddess, is an embarrassment. She holds no title and no power but is the key to a curse placed centuries ago on her mother: Naia must form a union with a god from an opposing family.

When the day arrives for her arranged marriage, she turns to the High God of Death and Curses for help.

He assists Naia under one condition—she must accept a curse, blindly. Willing to do whatever it takes to escape her mother’s kingdom beneath the sea, Naia agrees and flees to the Mortal Land.

When she wakes up in Ronin Kahale’s childhood home, she’s greeted by the warm, welcoming twenty-eight-year-old mortal. Distrustful of Ronin and his selfless hospitality, she’s convinced there’s more to him than what he’s sharing.

However, he’s her one-way ticket into Hollow City, an ominous concrete jungle infested with witches. Somewhere among its streets lies Finnian, Naia's younger brother and the only one capable of helping her hide from their cruel mother.

Naia desperately tries not to care for another mortal, but as her life intertwines with Ronin’s, she questions the lengths she will go to keep him safe from the gods who hunt her down—and the curse that looms over her.

With gods, though, everything comes with a price.

This story is gorgeous, both inside and out.

Naia is a goddess without a title. She's shunned and abused by her family of vicious immortal gods. Her only value to them is her prophesized destiny. Finally escaping the turmoil on her wedding day, she meets Ronin - a broody mortal man with secrets and battles of his own.

Naia is a phenomenal FMC. I adore her journey, her softness, and her love of sugary sweets. I found myself wholeheartedly rooting for her throughout the story.

Ronin, our male main character, exudes mystery and broodiness, but the love and devotion he has for Naia is wonderful. He has a strong "will-burn-the-world-for-her" vibe.

It's easy to tell that this story has roots in Greek [and other types of] mythology - with its depiction of gods and their immortal life spans - but the author has created a new world, featuring gods of different titles and powers in a modern-day setting. I went into this book mostly blind and completely fell in love with the characters and the story. Randi Garner has created an eloquent and beautifully layered story. The world-building is also enthralling and meticulously crafted.

I did find the pacing a bit challenging at times, as the story covers a large period, sometimes within just a few pages. I certainly didn't anticipate the ending or the various twists, and I appreciate how the story offers a well-rounded conclusion while leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next book.

I'm very excited to continue with this story and characters.

This book left me speechless. 10/10 - no notes.

This beautifully evocative story weaves elements of what feels like classical mythology and broody tragedy in a more modern setting. It was a deeply emotional and immersive reading experience for me. Naia, the cursed daughter of the High Sea Goddess, is burdened by her lack of power and the prophecy surrounding her circumstances. She is the key to breaking an ancient curse placed on her mother and must unite with a god from an opposing family. Desperate to escape her fate, she turns to the High God of Death and Curses, accepting a curse blindly in exchange for his help.

Garner excels in crafting an atmospheric setting that feels both modern and timeless. The juxtaposition of a contemporary world with ancient mythological elements creates a unique backdrop for the story. The world-building is rich and detailed, with Hollow City serving as a dark, almost dystopian setting filled with rival factions. This setting enhances the sense of peril that Naia faces at every turn.

The portrayal of the gods is reminiscent of the capricious and often cruel deities of Greek mythology. They are petty, angry, and seemingly unfeeling, adding a layer of brutality to their interactions with Naia and mortals. Naia, as the tragic heroine, embodies the qualities of a character straight out of a classical tragedy. Her journey is filled with suffering and a sense of inevitable doom, yet she remains genuine, thoughtful, and remarkably resilient. This juxtaposition of her inner strength against the external horrors imposed by her family makes her a compelling and sympathetic character despite her godhood. Ronin’s warm hospitality and selflessness starkly contrast the divine cruelty to which Naia is accustomed. Their growing relationship is central to the story and their bond has a deep emotional resonance. Naia's desperation to protect Ronin from the gods and the looming curse she carries creates a sweet but often heart-wrenching story.

Garner does not shy away from exploring themes of suffering, love, and sacrifice. The characters are deeply human, despite their divine connections, and their struggles and heartbreaks are palpable. The story is filled with moments that are both tender and devastating. Naia's journey is one of self-discovery and empowerment, and watching her grow and fight against her fate is inspiring. I am not sure I'll ever find another character who is so strong and vulnerable.

This is a book that will stay with me long after I've finished it and it holds a special place in my heart. It’s a perfect read for those who enjoy emotionally charged stories with a lot of heart.

WOW! This book is absolutely incredible 😍 I read it in two days and loved every minute of it. The author wove together a breathtaking tale of cruel gods, a cursed titleless goddess, a great romance and found family.

The chapters dedicated to Naia's past in her mother's kingdom made me so sad and angry at the same time, for all she had to endure. Her bond with her father and Finny was a breath of fresh air in the middle of it all.

Naia's time in the mortal world isn't easy, either, but her and Ronin are exceptional together! The development of their relationship is so beautiful to read, all their feelings so tangible. I found it so cute how, for a while, Naia keeps trying to hide how much she doesn't know about the Mortal Land and fails. Ronin never presses her about her past and takes it upon himself to help her find joy again 🥰

Generally, I can't stress enough just how much I enjoyed this book 🌟 Randi Garner brought this world to life masterfully, creating a story that will definitely stick with me. I can't wait to read more of her work!

I’m not sure words can fully express how this book made me feel. I devoured it and it devoured me. It ripped me up and healed me over and over. Naia is now one of my most beloved FMCs. Her strength and endurance during so many tragedies and her battles with herself and what she saw as personal failures and to watch her grow into herself had my heart breaking and then blooming over and over. And Ronin, my god, Ronin is everything. The found family, battling your inner demons, star crossed lovers. My brain has a million things to say about this book but is still in a jumbled state of emotions to make much sense. Just know I absolutely love everything about this book. FYI there are a lot of heavy topics that could be very triggering so if you are in a rough spot mentally or know you tend to get triggered definitely read the list at the beginning. I can’t wait for book #2!!

Naia is the firstborn to the High Goddess of the Sea and the High God of Nature. Unloved by her mother yet doted upon by her father, Naia’s upbringing is marred by torturous interactions with her younger siblings, pocketed by brief reprieves of peace with her father. Promised to the High God of Fire on her 800th birthday, Naia risks a bargain with the High God of Death and Curses in order to free herself from her imprisonment under the sea with her mother.

Upon her escape, she meets Ronin, who promises to help her find her estranged brother, while providing her safety and an entrance into the modern-day world. Naia is soon suspicious of Ronin… how he lives his life, coupled with his denouncement for all deities, has Naia on edge that her identity will be revealed. The threat of Naia’s family and scorned fiancé attempting to drag her back home continue to plague both Naia and Ronin. Will they be able to trust each other enough to fight together for Naia’s freedom?

WOW. JUST, WOW! I was completely and utterly enamored with this story, and was completely hooked the minute I started. The creativity behind the magic of the world Garner builds had its hooks latched into me from the drop. I absolutely loved our FMC Naia, and grew to be completely besotted with our MMC Ronin. The ending had me crying — it was so beautiful and touching.

I recommend this book to lovers of deities, the potential of magic in modern day and those eager to find love in a hopeless place.

What if you were a goddess born without a title? This is her story.

Naia is an 800 year old goddess, daughter to the high goddess of the sea. Her mom cursed her to never leave. The story opens up with her fleeing the night of her marriage to a high god. How? You need to read to find out 😉 Our little goddess has had a rough few centuries. Her mother is a terrible creature. Naia just wants to love and be loved in return. This is her journey to self discovery and love.

This story gives all the feels-heartache, anger, longing, friendship, found family, love. I was hesitant at first, but got sucked in by the beautiful storytelling. I became attached to these characters and their journey.

This story is set in an urban fantasy/modern world with flashbacks to Naia’s “younger” years. We watch and learn what events have shaped her into the goddess she currently is. We watch her grow. This reads like a stand-alone as it wraps up nicely, but the epilogue has be wondering if there will be a continuation of the story 🤔 If there is, I will definitely read it!

As a goddess, Naia possesses immortality yet has never truly lived. She has never felt empowered, accepted, or whole…until Ronin. Naia and Ronin’s love story is one filled with yearning, burning tension, and tenderness. The reverence and devotion they have for each other absolutely melted my heart.

Randi weaves an intricate storyline between past and present with the themes of mortality, loss, and the power of love echoing throughout. This book is utterly beautiful, humorous, and devastating in equal measure. Randi delicately and masterfully explores Naia’s vulnerability, innocence, and resilience.

The Goddess Of is a spellbinding, atmospheric, and transcendent tale of star-crossed lovers. I am looking forward to what comes next in this world!

“The Goddess Of” is a captivating romantasy that transports readers to a fantastical world brimming with goddesses, mages, and distinctive magic systems.
At the heart of the story is Naia, a lesser-goddess and daughter of the powerful High Sea Goddess, Mira.

Despite her limited power, Naia holds the key to breaking a centuries-old curse. Desperate to escape her fate and her oppressive, manipulative mother, Naia flees her underwater kingdom for the mortal realm.

In the human world, Naia searches for her brother, Finnian, but instead encounters Ronin, who agrees to help her reach the city.

This novel is heartbreakingly beautiful, delving deep into complex family dynamics and the trauma inflicted by parents. It’s a powerful narrative of trauma, perseverance, healing and unconditional love.

The magic system in the book is fascinating, though the surface-level explanations of the history, politics, and magic systems left some gaps in my understanding.

The characters are exceptionally well-crafted, each adding depth to the story. Ronin, in particular, is a standout—his devotion to Naia is truly remarkable and he is an absolute dream!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed “The Goddess Of” and I look forward to reading more of Randi’s work in future!

This was such a beautiful book and is definitely a top read for me this year. The story was refreshing and maintained a great balance between past and current times. There were twists I did not expect and there were parts that had me in tears. You fall in love with your favorite characters and loathe the ones who deserve it. Part of me wishes there was more vengeance against Naia’s hateful family, but when it came down to it the book wasn’t about revenge against them. I thought the portrayal of the traumatic events that Naia went through were important yet respectful of the readers who may be triggered by those scenes. It was refreshing to have an MMC that didn’t automatically have black hair and green eyes, and who was hard to figure out for most of the book for me. I’m still thinking about that ending and I can’t wait to see what characters will be focused on in the next book. I am so glad I came across this book and I hope others give it a chance, especially with this being a self published book! Would absolutely recommend and even if there’s a slower part, push through, it’s so worth it.

The Goddess Of is everything I want in a fantasy romance and has some of the best hurt/comfort I’ve had the pleasure of reading! If a book doesn’t emotionally destroy me, I don’t want it!! But seriously, I LOVED this book. I want to reread it already and have serious plans to purchase a signed copy so I can annotate and hold it dear for the rest of my life. Reading experiences like this one remind me why supporting indie authors is so important. I cannot stop thinking about The Goddess Of and I think it will probably make my list of top reads for the year. The angst was fantastic, the characters complex yet lovable, and the world building was artfully executed. I don’t think I’m going to shut up about The Goddess Of any time soon and I will be telling anyone who will listen to read it!

Synopsis:
Naia is the eldest daughter of the Goddess of the Sea and the God of Nature. However, Naia has never shown any abilities or magic to become a minor or greater goddess. Her mother uses this disappointment as punishment and has cursed her to remain trapped in the sea. On the night of Naia’s arranged marriage, she makes a deal with the God of Curses to break her entrapment and so she may flee. The catch? She doesn’t know what curse she will be replacing with the old one, and won’t know when it goes into effect. Once Naia successfully escapes after fighting off her powerful sister, she makes it to land and stumbles across Ronin - a mortal man who graciously allows her to shelter in his family home. Unfortunately, Ronin’s family despises the gods, thus Naia worries if he finds out her true identity, he’ll harm her before she’s able to seek protection from her family.

4.5 star. A really addictive read that is different from most fantasy novels. The writing is beautiful and I loved how we discovered the FMC’s story through snippets of her past life intertwined with the present. The whole story was super well executed and I was fully immersed in the world of The Goddess Of.

The following will contain spoilers.

My favourite characters are for sure Aviel and I think Finnian. First of all, I absolutely LOVE the name Aviel, how freaking gorgeous. Second of all, he reminds me a little of Cassian from ACOTAR and, how does one not like Cassian from ACOTAR? He has a kind heart, he knows how to make people laugh and he always turn any dire situation into a more light and hopeful one.

As for Finnian, I was so heartbroken when he turned out to be cruel towards Naia, especially after reading about their relationship in the past. I can’t wait to read the next book and learn more about his intriguing character, because it seems there's so much we don't know yet!

Finally, I loved how Ronin was always asking for Naia’s consent throughout the book. This made my heart love him even more. Consent is sexy and it should be more present in books in order to show everyone how important it is. I think seeing how Naia suffered continually at the hands of everyone around her was heartbreaking, but it made her strong and I love how she was able to keep her kindred spirit throughout the numerous centuries she lived with pain as intense as having a mother who simply doesn't love her at all.

Please check your TW's before reading

"I will not be your undoing, Ronin"
His lips skimmed her jawline. "You already are."

Naia has spent her life constantly in the shadows of her siblings and mother, the high goddess of the sea, as her first born, she should be the most powerful god, but instead, she is without power and title. So, on the day of her arranged marriage to a god, she decides to escape to the mortal realm with the help of the high god of death and curses. To do so, she must trade one curse for another, but with no knowledge of what, and when, the curse will be enacted. When Naia awakes, she finds herself in the house of the 28 year old, broody, handsome mortal she threatened to kill the evening before, and is immediately on edge, distrusting his selfless and kind generosity, something she's rarely experienced at the hands of another. However, she soon finds out Ronin is her only ticket to finding her brother Finnian who resides in the Hollow City, in the hopes of him hiding her from their vengeful and merciless mother, who is no doubt enraged by her bargain with the god of death.

This was astounding, gorgeous and an absolute treat to read.

Naia hides behind a fierce façade, determined to outwit her mother, and take control of her own life, and immerse herself in the mortal realm and culture she's always longed to be part of. She desperately avoids letting others in, and trust is something she finds particularly hard to grapple with given her past experiences, but she's got such a warm, kind and compassionate heart underneath the feisty, stubborn and brilliant personality she wears as armour. Naia exudes this endearing child like wonder in the mortal world, that is utterly endearing, especially when learning about the delicious food, and mundane, everyday activities. She's also bearing her own personal grief, that she's trying to process and heal from, and yet her heart is just as big and full of warmth, always loving more than she receives, and she desperately wants to be loved and accepted fully for who she is, without having to fight, and earn people's affections. I loved her so deeply, she deserves the entire world.

Ronin.. phew this man..

Deeply mysterious, cocky, flirtatious, and a utterly gorgeous specimen of a man. He's self-assured, and in touch with his feelings, still trying to heal from the grief of losing his parents, that threatens to suffocate him each day. Ronin is a beautiful, kind-hearted, cinnamon roll that likes to hide his romantic charms under his broody, and aloof façade. However, he harbours a deep hatred towards the gods, and there's a darker side to him that was so delicious to watch unfold.. the things that come out of this man's mouth...

They are devilishly sinful, and yet enticingly assured.

"The most beautiful thing I'd ever seen, but you carried a shadow in your divinity, demons that weighed you down"
"And you wanted to be the one to cast light upon that shadow, to fix me""
"You have it all wrong, babe. I wanted to destroy all those who threw you into your darkness"

I can't get enough of him, and his ability to create such a safe, healing space for Naia, whilst empowering her and encouraging her to believe in herself and her capabilities, he's a top tier, dreamy book boyfriend.

The banter between Naia and Ronin was electrifying, they had me giddy, especially watching Naia desperately trying to fight against her growing affection towards him. They find kindred spirits in each other, both drowning in the ghosts of their pasts, and the trauma they've both faced, and have found someone who sees them completely for who they are, and accepted them wholeheartedly. It was truly a beautiful experience watching their bond grow and develop as they helped each other heal and grow as individuals.

Finnian..

My heart aches for him and all he's endured, he deserves to be fully accepted and loved, and allowed to embrace his vulnerabilities. He has such a warm and gentle heart, and I honestly adore him with my whole entire being, he's also just trying to heal from his traumas, and past. Methodical, logical and cunning, Finnian is clever, and uses it to his advantage at any given opportunity. He may come across as ruthless at times, but he knows the outcome before it comes to pass, and how to invoke the least amount of pain and anguish to those around him.

But Mira... she elicited such a volatile, ever burning rage in me, that I found it hard to breathe at times. High Goddess of the seas, she is an egotistical, narcissistic, ruthless, barbaric and savage excuse for a being. Watching her treat Naia and Finnian so disgustingly, breaking them, and using them to her own agenda broke my heart into pieces.

Their father on the other hand, made my heart so incredibly full. He's suffered heavy losses, shackled and imprisoned to be beside the one person who ruined his life, but desperate to make amends and have children he can cherish and love with his entire being. He deserved the world and I will die on this hill. What a gentle, compassionate, empathetic and sweet angel he is stuck in an abhorrent prison.

Lushly and vividly crafted 'The Goddess Of' is a gorgeous story that seamlessly immerses you into a beautiful world, brimming with astounding, deeply intricate and complex lore, refreshing mythical gods, and rich, delicious culture. Also there's art in some of the chapters (!!), and they are so breath-taking, I'm a complete sucker for art in books, and this was utterly beguiling.

There is some truly gorgeous exploration throughout of mental health, grief, and the journey of healing (that is never linear), that resonated deeply within me, and was so profoundly moving. It's raw, real, and has some important reminders about giving yourself grace, and the space to heal at your own pace.

Action packed and thrilling with some delicious yet devastating twists, this story is atmospheric and deep with charming and remarkably unforgettable characters that are bursting with personality. Utterly compelling, and impactful, 'The Goddess Of' reminds you of the power of love, complexity of family, and how important it is to love fiercely and without reservations. I genuinely adored this story, and it's seared itself into my heart, I can't wait to dive deeper into this gorgeous world.

Lady Naia is cursed, has been cursed for centuries, and has been unable to break it. She wants to leave being stuck under the sea and calls for the High God of Death and Curses and bargains with him. In order to escape her current curse, she must accept a worse curse in its place. And she does.

While she’s waiting for her curse to happen, she escapes from her home under the sea and is taken in by a man named Ronin in the Mortal Lands and his family.

When Naia sees Solaris, the god she was betrothed to, there on the island, she realizes she has to leave for Hollow City where her younger brother Finnian is and he will help her. So, she begs Ronin to take her to Hollow City, where she begins to learn there’s more than meets the eye with this mortal man.

I have not been so moved emotionally by a story in such a long time. Naia’s story is utterly heartbreaking, fulfilling, liberating and beautiful. I have no words and no way to truly express how I feel about this book, but I will try.

Naia’s story is not pretty. It’s dark and awful, and it astounds me that family would do what they did to her. She was so admirable with her resilience and ability to continue to stand up and against her mother all the time. Her bravery is astounding, even though she knows the horrid pain she would go through, she still would do everything she could to stand up to her mother.

She’s also a female who allows herself to be vulnerable and show it. She got an emotional and I loved it because we don’t get enough books with a tough female character who tends to get emotional. She’s sensitive and cares a lot, and I loved reading about this Goddess who, no matter what was done to her, never became truly violent….at least until it mattered most, and even then she seemed to use self-control from completely unleashing herself. I just love Naia, okay!

I loved how this story weaved Naia’s past with the present. You get to learn about her upbringing, the type of family she had, the life she had, the relationships she had with her family, and Solaris(her betrothed). I loved her relationship with her father and her younger brother Finnian. And so when she sees Finnian again later in this story, it’s bittersweet.

Sidenote: Finnian is one of the best characters in here. When he’s younger, he’s the first one who stood up for Naia against their mother. His love for his sister knows no bounds, and I love him for that. No matter how much he grew or what he did, he always seemed to try to put Naia first. Finnian, as an adult, also reminds me of Loki, a bit of a trickster if you will, especially when it benefits him more than others. He is a bit of an enigma and I look forward to learning more about him 😈

Naia’s ability to love no matter what, and abhor violence was very admirable. No matter how awful these people were to her, her first answer or immediate reaction, was never violence. And so when she’s with Ronin, who tends to be more on the violent side, I loved seeing her learn to love all the parts of someone, no matter how much maybe she disagreed with his views. They just balanced each other so perfectly.

Their star-crossed love story was so beautiful. Ronin always loved her and had never wished for her to be different or to be a Goddess of anything. She was the Goddess he worshipped as she is, and that was enough for him. I loved Ronin. He had such a way with words that hit you so hard emotionally. He loves Naia and he lets the world know it and no one will hurt her and get away with it(don’t mind me just swooning over here).

I loved the found family that developed in here too. Naia never had a true family. She had her father, until he was taken away, and she had Finnian, until he too was taken away. And so to see her blossom amongst this eclectic group of witches and a God was wonderful to see. She deserved a family, and they’re mortals, who treated her better than not only her own family did, but any other God/Goddess had.

The scenes in this book were so vividly described that sometimes I felt sick and also so mesmerized by the picture building in my mind. This would make a fantastic movie! The action scenes in here would make for some amazing scenes in a movie, especially the scene when Naia is fighting the triplets trying to protect Ronin, that scene stuck to me because the detail in how they were fighting, just wow. Any fight scene in here was just filled with such epicness that now I want to see them on the big screen!

Maybe it will one day. Wouldn’t that be awesome. Anyways, I could go on and on about this book. I am so happy this is an interconnected standalone within a series, because I’m not ready to leave this world. There’s so many characters that could have amazing stories. Like Finnian, or Theon! I need his story still mmmhmmmm. I’m very much looking forward to the next book after the small glimpse we were given at the end. I think the next book will be utterly delightful and delicious.

Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to read an arc of this book. I am truly astounded and in love with your work and will definitely read all the books you write. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you so much to Randi Garner and Book of Matches Media for my Advanced Reader Copy of 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗗𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗢𝗙! This review is comprised entirely of my own thoughts & opinions, & is based on the copy I received.

Oh my gawd I absolutely loved this book! It has everything I’ve come to know and love with this genre, and I couldn’t put it down. The prose was beautiful and I was emotionally invested in the plot and characters. The EMOTIONS I went through while reading this were all over the place but in the best way! I love books that make me emotional, they are always the ones that stay with me even after I finish them and this book was one of those books. Naia is such a strong and resilient FMC, and I absolutely loved her. Her healing journey was so beautiful and I love that she found what she was looking for!

This book centers around our FMC, Naia, the daughter of the High Sea Goddess, and her journey towards healing and love. There were so many times I just wanted to wrap Naia up in a hug and protect her from everything she had to go through. This story bounces between past and present, and we get to see the events that shaped Naia in the being that she is in the present day. Her perseverance is so inspiring and beautiful and you really can’t help but root for her from the very first page. When Ronin, a mortal, enters the picture, I was absolutely swooning! He and Naia complement each other so well. He is everything she needs - he is strong and powerful, while also being gentle and tender with her. I loved all the moments where he was her safe and comfortable space.

There were also moments in this book where I found myself giggling! It was so endearing seeing Naia learn to navigate the modern world. Urban fantasy can be hit or miss for me sometimes, but I loved the way Randi incorporated all the elements from the modern world and blended them with the fantasy and magical elements. It was beautifully written and executed perfectly!

Overall, I highly recommend this one!! It was a beautiful story and I loved everything about it. If you’re looking for a book where you will feel literally every emotion under the sun, then this one is for you!

✨The Goddess Of✨

Looking for a fantasy romance about a love that spans lifetimes? If so, you’ll love this story about a goddess who never received her title and finds herself chained to her mother under the sea until she makes a deal with the god of curses.

After Naia trades one curse for another, she find herself in the mortal world and in the hands of a mysterious savior, Ronin. They work together to find her missing brother, the god of witches and sorcery, while hiding from the wrath of Naia’s family and an impending war between sides of the city.

TGO is a precious story of a star crossed love that expands lifetimes, a budding and bonding romance over grief and loss, and a discovery of self-worth and acceptance as Naia seeks her freedom and her title.

Naia is so lovable. She is utterly compassionate and kind and empathetic. I love that, despite what torture she’s been through, she remains unblemished in her heart. Ronin, our morally grey MMC, is stoic and quiet and delightful in so many ways. His secrets were so fun to unveil. The found family is so good and touching. I love love Finnian and hope to see more of him and his future.

This story brought tears and laughter. I cried and I giggled. One of my favorite scenes is when Naia goes grocery shopping. Her innocence at not understanding the modern world is hilarious and so sweet.

Tropes you may find in TGO are hidden identities, meddling gods, plot twists, VILLAINOUS villains, forced proximity, fated mates, star crossed lovers, witches and magic, urban fantasy, wrapped up ending, mental health rep, touch her and perish, k!ll for her, comfort and anxiety rep, and spice 2/5 (cracked door feels).

I’m so glad I randomly chose this beautiful story. It was so worth every minute.

So I went into this one blind. That insanely gorgeous cover instantly grabbed my attention. With that, the title, and the fact that it's one of my favorite genres...fantasy romance, I just knew I had to read it. I had zero expectations, and even if I had they would have for sure been completely blown out of the water. I absolutely loved every second of The Goddess Of. It was that good. There were times my emotions were all over the place. There's a lot of heartbreak, but there's also a lot of happiness. I may have gotten a bit teary-eyed towards the end. The author, Randi Garner did such a beautiful job creating this book. I cannot believe it's her debut novel! It was beautifully written, I loved the characters and I adored getting to know so many of them. The found family trope is one of my favorites and it was just absolute perfection in this story. I also enjoyed the star-crossed lovers and meddling gods tropes. There's also mental health rep. which is always nice to see. In addition to the heartbreak and happiness I mentioned earlier, there were also some pretty dark and disturbing moments sprinkled in. I never really knew what to expect when reading and some things took me by surprise. I'm so happy that this book will be part of a series. I loved it and couldn't put it down. I was completely absorbed and lost in it. I cannot wait for book two and to continue on and see what's to come. Adding it to my list of most anticipated reads!

I highly recommend checking this one out sometime if it sounds like something you'd enjoy and/or if you're a fan of fantasy romance, urban fantasy, and stories involving meddling gods!

Even the gods suffer.

This was an absolutely lovely story of strength, preservation, determination, grief, and love. The 800 powerless god Naia is forced to unite with an opposing family in order to break an ancient curse that was placed on her mother. To escape this dreadful future and in hopes of keeping her mother contained she calls upon the High God of Death and Curses, Cassian. She accepts an unknown curse in exchange for his assistance. We fall into the world of gods, goddesses, mages, humans, and Naia is caught between them all.

I thought this was absolutely breathtaking. The self discovery our FMC goes through is awe inspiring. She’s so desperate to be someone. Not just a daughter of a high goddess, a sister to horrible creatures, or a god. The world she comes from is cruel and hard, which is the complete opposite of Naia who is soft, gentle, and kind.
The classical depiction of gods in this book is haunting. Immortality creates bored players who stop at nothing to be entertained. How do you hurt those who cannot die? Unfortunately you get creative. These complex relationships and power struggles display these beings perfectly.
There were so many elements of this story to love. The slow burn between Ronin and Naia provided the best recipe for a timeless love story. I loved their interactions and the care he bestowed onto her. He was thoughtful, gentle, and kind to a goddess he had so much to lose from saving.
The twists and turns were well balanced and moved the plot along well. The writing was captivating, and kept you wanting more. I couldn’t put this book down once I started. You won’t want to miss Naias story.

Wow. I am overwhelmed with emotion after finishing this. This is a book full of heavy, emotional moments that had me fully invested from start to finish.

Reading about everything Naia went through was intense. Her entire journey is so heartbreaking. I was tearing up during the last 20% when she accepted her fate and went along for her part of the curse. It hurt to think about all the suffering and pain she had already gone through in her 800 years. Why did she have to endure more?

I loved that she at least had her father and Finnian in her life for the time that she did. Their love gave her those rare moments of reprieve from everything, filling her with the strength to survive. Her relationship with her father was so beautiful and heartfelt; he clearly loved her deeply. Her bond with her brother, Finnian, during their childhood was special, too. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the author writes next for him. Hopefully, we get to see what he has planned for himself after everything that happened.

The gods in this book were vicious, cruel, and driven by their own ambitions. Every time I hoped one would show a little mercy or kindness, they reminded me how ruthless they could be.

Overall, The Goddess Of is a beautiful and emotional read, filled with gorgeous descriptions and touching moments. I think it’s the kind of book that will stick with readers long after they’ve finished it.

“𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒆’𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆, 𝒔𝒉𝒆’𝒅 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒊𝒎.”

I loved this book! It’s such a devastatingly beautiful story. The FMC, Naia, endures so much trauma and abuse throughout her life. Although she feels helpless, useless, and worthless, she is incredibly resilient. I absolutely loved her transformation from being the forcefully obedient daughter to believing in herself and gaining her freedom.

The MMC, Ronin, is one of the most loving and supportive MMCs I’ve ever read about. The backstory of his love for Naia had me in tears. Actually, I was in tears several times throughout this story. The found family in this book is also incredible. My heart soared as Naia gained the love and family that she’d always dreamed of.

This book is full of love, suffering, sacrifice, beautifully woven reveals, and unexpected altruism from characters with hidden intentions. This is a book that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading. I absolutely loved it and it deserves all of the stars.

I don’t think words can describe how beautiful this book is. And I mean in every sense. Apart from the stunning artworks in the book and the gorgeous cover, Naia’s story will make you cry. I’m not an emotional person in general but there were parts that had me controlling my tears.

Naia’s life is not easy. The cruelty she endures at the hands of her family will break your heart into pieces! All she wants is love and someone who understands that although she’s a goddess, she’s not immune to feeling pain. And Ronin is everything!!!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

So I was expecting a strong end with Naia getting these crazy powers that would be unleashed along with her anger and frustration and would probably end the world. But the soft introduction to her beautiful power really tugged at my heart. It’s exactly everything her story needed.

Not sure about my feeling with regards to Finian and Cassian but I don’t hate them. If that makes sense.

I think this book should be a movie. That’s it!

"'I am going to show you what it's supposed to be like. All of it.' Love. Happiness. Marriage. Family."

I am so happy to say that this book is not just a pretty cover. I absolutely adored this book. It emotionally destroyed me and then put me back together again.

Naia's story was so tragic, and the flashback scenes were heartbreaking but also done so well. They were paced perfectly throughout the book in between moments of levity so that they weren't overwhelming. She is such a strong character who has been through so much, but she hasn't lost her capacity for love even though she wishes she could.

Naia and Ronin's relationship was beautiful and felt so realistic. Things aren't always sunshine and roses as they do have their share of fights, but love each other through them anyway. They were a perfect pair for each other, and I loved watching both of them learn from the other about their strength and their worth. The side characters were also wonderful and there was such a great found family dynamic.

I can't say enough about how much I loved this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and I never wanted it to end. I will be reading anything else this author writes from here on.

I received a copy from the author for review purposes, but my opinions here are my own.

The Goddess Of was a completely unexpected read. A friend convinced me to buy and read it and I had no idea what to expect.
What I found was a raw, at times heartbreaking, but also incredibly sweet and moving story.

Naia has a very difficult past, which has broken her down over and over again but has never managed to break her completely. Seeing her take charge of her life again, learn to trust, and find her strength was beautiful, even if painful.

Ronin is an enigmatic figure, but little by little he opens up and allows us to get to know him better, and what we find is a man willing to do anything for his loved ones. He too, like Naia, has suffered much. This is why the relationship between the two of them develops slowly, naturally, as trust is built between them.

Once we reach the end of the story, we can only be proud of Naia and the growth she has had, and I can assure you that all the suffering was worth it!

This is a devastatingly beautiful debut of a book. The atmosphere was palpable, the emotions were raw, the action was fierce, and the characters were so endearing, albeit mighty, I couldn’t take it. Garner created a world so robust and full of rich flavor that I never wanted to leave. This author is one to watch. If you love urban fantasy with a dark twist, complete with found family, an abundance of mental health representation, and a love story for the ages, definitely pick up The Goddess Of. You won’t be disappointed. I loved this one with all my heart.

Wonderful Book

I absolutely loved how long this book was. It gave EXACTLY the amount of details needed and wanted without making it feel excessively long or boring.

I fell in love with all of these characters and I would most definitely love to see more of their lives.

While the spice is very very mild (which I'm 100% okay with), I felt that you could still FEEL the absolute pure love and adoration.

Wonderful, wonderful read. I definitely will hopefully be reading more from this author in the future!

This book is stunning and the drawings within make it extra special. This book was not what I was expecting though. I was expecting a kickass goddess and an epic lovestory. It was a really slow and tragic story and the goddess was not that kickass but really sweet. I really liked the lovestory eventually and the way Ronin would burn the world for Naia. I have a difficult time reviewing this one because I really wanted it to be sooo amazing but in the end I only liked it. I think it was to slow and tragic without enough action from Naia for me.

I quite enjoyed this. It was wonderfully written with a lush world that I would love to see more of. I enjoyed the love story for the most part, although cliched and predictable. At the basis of this story, it’s about how love and sacrifice go hand in hand. I have no idea if the author intends to explore Cassain’s character more, but I am so ready for that.

"The Goddess Of" is a must read. The characters and narrative are exquisitely crafted, immersing the reader in a captivating experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and found it hard to put down.

Naia's immense compassion and unwavering love, despite the disappointments she has faced, are truly remarkable. Her limited understanding of mortal customs adds a humorous element to the narrative. The witty exchanges between her and Ronin are engaging and entertaining. Their love story!!!!

Oh, and Finny I need to know your plans!!!
