Javed Ahmed Rana

Javed Ahmed Rana (born 1963) is an Indian politician from Jammu and Kashmir. He is an MLA from Mendhar Assembly constituency which is reserved for Scheduled Caste community in Poonch district.[1] He won the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election representing the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. He is nominated again by the JKNC to contest from Mendhar in the 2024 Assembly election.[2]

Early life and education

Rana is from Kalaban village, Mendhar tehsil, Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir. He is the son of Babu Faiz Ahmed. He completed his B.A. and later did L.L.B. in 1989 at University of Jammu.[3] He is a lawyer and he married, Hamida Begum Rana, a businesswoman.[3] They have four children, Tahir Javed Rana, Mahajbeen Rana, Zeshan Javed Rana and Mahapara Javed Rana.[4]

Career

Rana won from Mendhar Assembly constituency representing the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference in the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election. He polled 31,186 votes and defeated his nearest rival, Mohd Mahroof Khan of Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party, by a margin of 9,025 votes.[5] He was first elected as an MLA in the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election from Mendhar on JKNC ticket.[2]
