About us
UTL is focused on growing the political participation of our Silicon Slopes community from funding, supporting candidates, and creating a pipeline of potential candidates to run for local office, and delegate training. With the fast pace of technology growth in Utah, it’s imperative that we have representatives who truly understand the issues facing tech companies, obstacles to scale our growth, and the needs of our diverse workforce.

Conciliatory efforts won’t change the aggressive government overreach being executed by our legislators overturning citizen initiatives. Bills like SB4003 aimed at giving more time for signature gathering do not balance out the massive breach of public trust when political elites can freely choose to ignore and repeal citizen lead efforts focused on the good of our state. https://lnkd.in/gbU6djqM

A government by the people and for the people should not actively try to hinder the efforts of everyday citizens seeking to affect change from the ground up. And it definitely shouldn’t try and accomplish this by bending the established rule of law. SB4002 specifically seeks to circumvent the state constitutional amendment process to allow our legislature the opportunity to restrict the power of our citizens. https://lnkd.in/gVkPEZPs

Our tech community wants to make it clear: we do not support this attempt by our legislators to take control of our state by throttling the power that individual citizens hold. The language of this bill forces citizens to go through undefined “legislative action” instead of citizen initiatives. It allows the legislature the exclusive opportunity to decide what counts as“legislative action”. We believe that ambiguity like this only gives political elites more power and prevents true democracy. https://lnkd.in/g8AV72wv

We asked you, our community, what you think about our state legislators attempts to squash citizen initiatives that seek to reform our state government. You came back with a resounding answer. With a whopping 84%, our community has chosen to say no to the political elites of our state trying to rip power away from citizens.
