About Me
Marlitta H. Perkins studied photography and print making at Columbus College of Art and Design. In the early 1990’s, the focus of her work dramatically shifted from artistic pursuits to historic research of the Civil War, with an emphasis on Eastern Kentucky. Her work has appeared in various publications over the years. Ms. Perkins has also participated as panelist in Civil War seminars and round tables and designed a number of Civil War exhibits. As co-founder of the Buffington Island Battlefield Group, Inc. she was actively engaged in historic preservation. Slavery in Eastern Kentucky, her groundbreaking research about antebellum African-Americans, was published in 2013. Her blogs, Eastern Kentucky in the Civil War and Vanishing Eastern Kentucky, represent her continued interest in Civil War history and historic preservation. Ms. Perkins' latest work, The Most Brilliant Little Victory, a book on General Nelson’s 1861 Eastern Kentucky Campaign, was published in May 2014.
