About the Author
Robert A. Rees is Director of Mormon Studies and Visiting Professor at Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Previously he taught at UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Berkeley, and was a Fulbright Professor of American Studies in the Baltics. He is the editor or co-editor of Fifteen show more American Writers Before 1900 (1971), Proving Contraries: A Collection of Writings in Honor of Eugene England (2005), A Reader's Book of Mormon (2008), Why I Stay: The Challenge of Discipleship for Contemporary Mormons (2011), and A New Witness to the World (2020). I initially thought it was short stories as I started reading – there were different characters in each chapter (at first); I also thought there were different time periods, but one of the characters from (what I thought was) one time period appeared in another later on. So, either time travel or I was mistaken on different time periods? Unlikely it was time travel! There were weird random pages/paragraphs (in different font) referring to “you” – none of that made sense to me. I thought this book was odd, and despite being in an area not too far from where I am and somewhere I’ve been, I did not like this. Likely a good reason for that is the writing style.… (more)
