I think this book was just not for me.
I wanted to love this, I really did, but I just… didn’t. I didn’t hate it exactly, but the way these poems were written were pretty different from the poems I usually enjoy. I think the poems in this book really have to resonate with you for you to enjoy it, and it just didn’t end up doing that for me.

(more)

This collection of poetry came into my life at a time that I needed it most. Mary's opens up her ribcage and pours out all that she has experienced and felt into the pages of this book. Her poetry is beautiful, truthful, and powerful. Mary will always be a reminder to all suffering from mental illness, trauma, and life in general that life is shitty and shame is overwhelming and beautiful all at the same time. Thank you Mary for sharing with us your soul. 10001 out of 10 would read again and again and again.… (more)

Literary Merit: Good

Recommend: Maybe -- depends on your demographic
Reading level: 17+

This is a moving, tough, heartbreaking collection. The titles throughout provide a humorous, if not sarcastic break from the verses that range from violent, violated poems to sweet, gentle love verses. The seemingly random, and somewhat chaotic order of the content cover image, which seems to me to allude to the chaotic mind of the author who also seems to teeter along the lines of darker and lighter episodes herself. Very interesting collection, but perhaps only appropriate for mature high school students and adults.… (more)
