Boyden, L. (2007). Powwow’s Coming. Albuquerque: University of New Mexico Press.
This book is most appropriate for preschoolers. This book tells about the traditions and activities that take place when Native Americans have a Powwow. From dancing to drumming, there are a lot of activities that take place at a Powwow. The book also outlines what Native Americans wear during these celebrations, what they eat, and what kind of art they make. The book also gives a history of Powwows as well as games that students can play at home if they wanted to do their own Powwow.… (more)

Summary: This book is about a little girl growing a garden with her grandpa. She wants blue roses but he tells her there are none. When he dies, the family is very sad until they see blue roses at his grave.
Opinion: This book is really sweet. I like the positive views surrounding death that are held by many Native American people. The book is great for a grieving kid or just somebody who wants to learn more about the culture.

I enjoyed the look into Native American culture that this book provided. The large print and bright colors makes it easy for children to read.
