NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Jayden Daniels will be the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders when they take on the Buccaneers in week 1 of the regular season.

The team announced the big decision on Monday. Daniels beat out Marcus Mariota for the job.

Daniels racked up 50 total touchdowns last season with the LSU Tigers. His exploits garnered him the Heisman Trophy. Washington drafted Daniels No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Daniels is 12-of-15 passing for 123 yards in the preseason. He also has a rushing touchdown against the Jets.

Washington is a 4-point underdog on the road at Tampa Bay in week 1 according to Caesars Sportsbook.
