NATCHITOCHES, La. (KALB) - With school starting this week for many students, community members and fraternity brothers in Natchitoches came together to give kids school supplies and free haircuts.

The Alpha Phi Alpha Theta Chi Chapter held a free haircut event at Platinum Kuts Barbershop on Monday. The first 25 kids who showed up got a free haircut.

The event helped kids start the school year looking and feeling great, and the chapter advisor thinks it is really important for the community.

“To help ease the burden on parents and guardians in the community, we always wanted to lend a helping hand and also give those young men a haircut, to give them that confidence to go back to school with a fresh cut, feeling good so they can start off in a great way,” said Matthew Craig, Alpha Phi Alpha Theta Chi Chapter fraternity undergrad advisor.

Community members understand the significance of back-to-school events like this, as they can make a real difference for families in need.

“A lot of parents might be struggling or having a hard time and can’t afford a haircut. I decided to bring my son to support the business,” said Felicia McMellan, a community member and parent.
