Saints’ new DE Chase Young to undergo neck procedure, likely to miss some training camp
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans Saints’ most recent acquisition, defensive end Chase Young, is set to undergo a “neck procedure,” according to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.
The news broke one day after the Saints signed the former second-overall pick to a one-year $13 million deal.
Young’s surgery will likely keep him out of training camp, according to Schefter, but he is expected to recover in time for the upcoming season.
Young’s neck issue was reportedly known to the Saints and other teams before the signing, yet the franchise proceeded with the contract without hesitation.
The 24-year-old, who played in a career-high 16 games last season, sustained the injury during a preseason game in 2023 while still with the Washington Commanders.
Young has endured previous health setbacks, including a significant knee injury in 2021.
Splitting his time last season between the Commanders and Super Bowl contending San Francisco 49ers, Young recorded 7.5 sacks.
The Saints ranked 28th in the NFL last season with 34 sacks.
