Crossroads of Twilight (The Wheel of Time, #10)
by
by
We rode on the winds of the rising storm,
We ran to the sounds of the thunder.
We danced among the lightning bolts,
and tore the world asunder.
Is Crossroads of Twilight the weakest Wheel of Time book I've read so far? Probably.
Is it still amazing? Pfft, it's a Wheel of Time book. Of course it is.
In terms of plot development, this book has nothing to offer. Absolutely nothing. But the world and the characters are so fantastic I don't even mind. And since for the first time, none of the protagonists act like whiny teenagers, I want to read the next one straight away.
Wheel of Time reviews:
#1 The Eye of the World
#2 The Great Hunt
#3 The Dragon Reborn
#4 The Shadow Rising
#5 The Fires of Heaven
#6 Lord of Chaos
#7 A Crown of Swords
#8 The Path of Daggers
#9 Winter's Heart
#10 Crossroads of Twilight
#11 Knife of Dreams
#12 The Gathering Storm
#13 Towers of Midnight
#14 A Memory of Light

The next book is miles ahead of this one in terms of excitement. And then Jordan died...

Maybe he will be reborn in the next age :)

I will not speculate on this in details as I will spoil some things for you, but I still despair thinking about his future writing plans that he announced before he became terminally ill.
The same by the way goes to Roger Zelazny - I would love to see his further Amber stories.

the above comment was meant to say: congratulations you have made it through the fillers and the snow and the doomed faile plot. let the awesomeness begin!
Just finished, so I will agree with you on the lack of whineyness. One thing I noticed was that there's no Mat, Rand, or Perrin saying that the other is better with women... I wonder when that stopped?!
Good to see them all getting on with things, being "adults", but they've become too somber and reflective instead. Just wish we didn't have to hear about every single last thought.

I just appreciate them becoming good characters, even including their exaggerated reflections. I will always hate certain characters in this series for how much they annoyed me in the first set of books, but some of them become great by the end.

When I first started the series, I never saw it as a "coming of age"-type epic (just looked and only 3 people have marked it as such, so it shows a general consensus there), but considering that a major part of the character development is to do with how they grow up quickly and adapt to their new and ever-changing situations, I guess it is, in a way. Even Nynaeve is becoming someone decent (although she didn't feature here), and I've heard that she's one of the ones that grows the most.

WoT has an incredible lot of themes, the coming of age for the protagonists being only one. I never cared much for them in general, but I have to appreciate their growth. I will always hate Rand, but I will also always really like him for the great character he is at the end of the series. Nynaeve is at least slightly similar. But mostly I just prefer to focus on and enjoy all the other themes, and more than anything the absolutely fantastic setting :)
