DNF @ 48% - i am just really not into this at all, this was my first time reading one of king’s hard case crime novellas & i can safely say that i will steer extremely clear of the others in this series. this was already in a pile of books that i was planning on donating, so it wasn’t very hard for me to part ways with this one. i, respectfully, couldn’t care less about how this ends.

Heather It felt like nothing ever happened! It was just people talking about a thing that happened. lol I finished it but I didn't like it at all. The show, I loved. But it's very X-Files meets...something fluffy. It's nothing like this novella.

i know! i was waiting for something exciting to happen & then i was like…why am i even wasting the time when i have so many other books i’d rather read, i think because it was a king book it had me in a chokehold, but thankfully i snapped out of it lol. when the entire first chapter was just a group of people talking about tipping the waitress/paying for their meal, i knew it was gonna be a trip 😂 i’m glad i’m not the only one who felt that way! & how did i not know that there was a show?! i feel ashamed lol, but i grew up watching x-files so ill definitely have to check it out, thank you for letting me know!!

Heather Haha! Exactly. You're not missing out by passing on this story. It really just felt plotless and pointless from start to finish.

I found the show first and read the book after. They're not remotely similar. lol! The show is called Haven. The first season is great but it does get very weird after that. I still had a good time, though. It starts off with an FBI agent and a cop trying to solve supernatural mysteries together in a spooky town. To me it was very Mulder and Scully!

Christine Koch RNBSN Have you read the Mr Mercedes books and if so, would you say this is similar?

Christine Koch RNBSN Ah, all good. If it were like it, I’d pass on this also. I agree, this is not my favorite category by unkle King

hmmm, i might have to pass on mr. mercedes now, it doesn't sound very promising haha, & agreed! from my experience, i don't think he excels in the mystery/detective genre unfortunately, & since he is such a "wordy" writer, i think he does better with longer novels. i haven't really loved many of his shorter stories or novellas.

Christine Koch RNBSN The girl who loved Tom Gordon is as short as I’ll get with him 😄

Theresa I agree that this book is much less than we expect from King but the others in this series are quite good.

Steven Have you read Joyland? I think it’s considered part of this hard case crime series as well and it’s top notch. I’d honestly say it’s one of my favorites of his.
