Walk is a sheriff in a small Californian town where he grew up, its clear from the start he is struggling with his past in relation to his best friend Vincent King. That incident ended with Vincent being sent to prison. Now, thirty years later, he is being is being released
Star, was friends with Walk and Vincent when she younger. Now she is struggling with two children...Duchess is a thirteen-year-old self-proclaimed ‘outlaw’ and five year old Robin. Walk tries to help when he can but Duchess is the driving force in the family.
When Vincent arrives home a set of events lead to Duchess and Robin moving away to stay with their Grandparent and Walk desperately trying to support his lifelong friend Vincent. This isn’t a usual run of the mill thriller and in the whole I enjoyed it with great memorable characters . But at times I found the writing style slightly grating - wordy speeches from a five or thirteen year old - really 🤷‍♀️. For that reason I’m scoring it a 3.5 to 4 rather than 5⭐️ .
