it was ok
bookshelves: made-me-mad

What I was afraid would happen, happened.

I don't know why I bother giving series following the same couple a chance anymore. This one was a huge disappointment. And depressing. Book 1 was good, but 2 and 3 were a complete letdown. I kept reading because I wanted to see if things would change, badly hoping they'd improve. I cared enough for Jake & Eliie to want to see them get their HEA, but it was entirely frustrating, to say the least. I just finished reading book 3 and I'm annoyed. I don't know who made me more mad, Jake or Ellie. Jake for being a wimpy hero, never taking what he wanted, for being extremely passive and uptight. Or Ellie for being pushy, always in Jake's face, begging him to fuck her *ugh*, begging him for more than he was willing to give. Seriously, where's your dignity and self-respect, woman? Ellie the little feminist. Yeah, right. All her talk about sexism while perpetually playing the role of Jake's lost puppy, was a joke. I take back what I said about her in my review for book 1. The girl turned out jelly-spined. I could not relate to her at all. Call me sexist but I can't stand a heroine who chases the hero, nonstop. Only to get rejected repeatedly. Eeek! There were many instances of this, it was pathetic. She'd behave crudely and obnoxious in order to get Jake's attention, while he remained forever reluctant and an utter killjoy. It only took him 3 books to finally give in to Ellie. Fuuuck! Thank goodness these books were relatively short.

"Didn’t I deserve more? My answer was a resounding yes. I deserved a man who wasn’t reluctantly attracted to me. I deserved a man who told me he liked me and he wanted me. I deserved a man who shared himself and his feelings with me. No matter how hard that was for Jake. I had been a dog at heel for two years, feeding off the scraps Jake was willing to dole out. Loving each and every one of them." You don't say!

"A dog at heel." For two years. Too bad she never learned.

“It’s been all me, every time. I tried to change us and he didn’t want to. I had to ask him for sex, but if I hadn’t then he wouldn’t have touched me. At some point he has to go first if I’m going to know where he stands.” Don't hold your breath.

I'm not reading book 4, The Baby. I'm done.

Arini lol sorry your worst nightmares were realised in this book 😂 but seriously though, the H & h sound terrible. i take it it was supposed to be a role reversal kinda thing where the h was the chaser, but it came out too desperate and pathetic instead? 💀 reminds me of the book The Marriage Effect. hope your next reads are better! 💕

Amy | Foxy Blogs Well, that's a bummer this one was a letdown. At least you know you won't be continuing on.
I'm currently reading one that I can't get into and I'm too stubborn to just DNF it.

Malene Great review. Sorry it wasn’t better. I also have my reservations when it comes to a series featuring the same couple.

The h wouldn't stop petting my peeves! Personally, I only like to see male characters doing the chasing and the begging. Double standards? You bet 😂 Sorry not sorry. Thanks for checking out my ranty review, Arini!

I don't usually have trouble DNFing, but sometimes I'm too curious to quit. Good luck with your current read, Amy. Hope it improves.

Thanks, M! There was a time I loved escaping into duets, trilogies and such, because the more the merrier. But they seldom work for me now. Sucks.
