The Escape Room involves an investment banking team: Vincent, Sam, Jules, and Sylvie, who work at the prestigious finance firm, Stanhope & Sons. The group is summoned to a mandatory meeting on a Friday evening. Once they arrive at the unfamiliar destination, they are annoyed to find out this is merely a team-building exercise. They enter an elevator and receive a message welcoming them to the escape room with the goal of getting out alive — What’s going on and why are they here?

The book alternates storylines between the four coworkers trapped in the elevator and Sara Hall, a young, ambitious graduate looking to build her finance career. Through a chance meeting, Sara gets a job at Stanhope and works to prove her worth as an asset at the firm.

The story is far-fetched and mildly believable at best, yet captivating. Money, status, and deceit run rampant through this book full of unlikable characters. I binged it quickly, curious to see how two storylines connected. The Escape Room is light on depth but high on entertainment value.
