did not like it

So. Gross. I’m so sick of these romance plots that laugh off appalling behavior from the “hero” because he happens to be rich and/or hot. The male lead *ties the heroine up against her will and FORCES her to marry him.* Then coerces her into cooperating by threatening to kill her dogs if she doesn’t. The only reason we’re supposed to see that as funny and not as him completely violating her is because he’s a good kisser. Somehow her brothers disregarding her wishes and controlling her life is abhorrent, but a man she just met doing it is charming. Thought I was going to throw up in my mouth. Want a good test for whether or not a male lead is disgusting? Imagine him as a short, bald 60-year-old man with yellow teeth and consider whether his behavior is still “romantic”. The truly sad thing is that there are still women in the world who are put in this very position. Can only imagine what they’d think to see how titillating women who have the privilege of never being threatened this way find this garbage. -_-

Dani As soon as the hero tied up the heroine, I said, "I'm out." I didn't even gtet to the part about threatening to kill the dogs. Judging from your review, I suspect that I may have a higher tolerance than you do fo instalove and bad behavior in romance novels, but even I got an icky feeling from the hero tying up the heroine and the ranch foreman (who Indy considers a friend) going along with it.
