This was suppose to be a book review. Not an author review.

In that case, The Worst Witch would be a good substitute. It's kinda like Harry Potter with none of the baggage and it's super underrated.

JK Rowling deserves to be called out for her very atrocious beliefs.

Yes we know but she wrote the book and though it may be “good” she’s still a terrible person who I do not support in any way
If you’re writing a book review maybe you should review the actual book and not the author’s personal opinions.
Buying the book is supporting her. Reviewing it is not. At this point, the book is so well known and with millions of reviews that Harry Potter already has a reputation. JK Rowling is not recieving support from goodreads because this site does not monetize. If people want to read her book, there are plenty of free pirated versions on the web that don't support Rowling either. Stop jumping to conclusions. A book is a book and an author is an author.
Has anyone ever actually read her essay ?
That woman if for SAFETY for women!
She was sexually assaulted and got through that. And is strong. She is remarkable.
And no she is not transphobic.

What does sexual harassment have to do with transphobia? It's great she survived that trauma but that doesn't mean she isn't transphobic.
You are on goodreads to rate a book, not an author’s (true) statement about only women getting their periods, get over it
You can dislike the artist and still like the art. Also Harry Potter is so big you can get the books at libraries and second hand shops without the proceeds going to the author. And merchandise you can buy from small businesses that don’t give any money to her.
Also goodreads is a book review site. You’re here to rate a BOOK, not a person.

This is to rate a book, not a person. I agree JKR is a horrible person, but she is a very good writer
Worthless review. You should rate the work here. And, btw, kudos to JK Rowling for standing up against the absurd online mob.
THANK YOU!! All of my friends love HP but I kinda just refused after hearing what J.K Rowling has been saying about the trans community.
What if you wrote a great review on this book with an amazing analysis and reasonable points on why you should or should not read it. Let’s say I read that review and completely agreed with it. Then I reported the review because I didn’t like your profile picture.
Trust me, there are authors I don’t politically or socially agree with, but I still love and respect their work. I doubt you even read the book if you only left a review about the author’s beliefs. If you did, my bad, but that doesn’t change the fact that you should judge a book based on its author’s personal life.

lets come to terms with the fact that who rowling is as a person, and who she is as a writer are separate. shes an amazing writer, horrible person. not that deep
but we do support pedophiles like some incredibly popular authors at the moment as well as racists and misogynists apparently…

Besides the fact that SJM isn’t racist, if you truly want to go bar for bar about this, then maybe you shouldn’t be saying that with a Taylor swift profile picture, because she doesn’t exactly do anything for poc, now does she?

Reported. Don’t like the person; don’t read the book, but this has nothing to do with Goodreads and the rating system.
I understand what she did and that wasn’t ok, but what she does and says has nothing to do with what she writes. Especially Harry Potter it has nothing to do with any of that.
To anyone in agreement with the original review, does it really matter? I am not supporting transphobia in any way, nor do I mean to insult anyone who agrees with this review. I simply wish to bring to the forefront of people’s mind the difference between the work and the creator. The creator is not the work, nor is the work the creator, so to conflate the two in a review dedicated to the work alone is pointless. If you do not wish to read the book due to Rowling’s views, that is your right, but please do not mistake those views for the quality of the work, as those two are very different things.
