it was amazing
bookshelves: modern-classics, mystery-murder-crime-20th-century

No idea why this was showing as I had rated this book when I haven't even finished it.

Gee, I got so many likes when I was just having a whinge, I don't know why I'm bothering to write a review! 😁

Well, I do know why. This is one of the best books I've read this year - it is definitely the best fiction that is not a reread.

I read it as a straight doppelganger story and still found it wonderfully complex - & du Maurier's skilled writing made me believe the unbelievable. But some of the other people doing this group read (in the Retro Reads Group) have found deeper, more spiritual & philosophical meaning in the writing and I really want to sit down and read this book all over again.

I'm amazed. I'm gobsmacked. this is how classic fiction should make one feel. To be trusted with making your own interpretation by a writer is such a gift.

Teresa That's happened to me once or twice. Just now I replied to a friend request and discovered they didn't want to be friends at all. Don't know what's going on!

Oh no! That would be so embarrassing! You could report that Teresa. Probably would need to email support AT goodreads DOT com rather than the feedback group as you would need to give the other person's personal details.

Teresa Don't know if I'll bother Carol. I couldn't understand why the person wanted to be friends as we had nothing in common so I messaged them. Maybe it was a glitch.

Sheila Majczan Then there are several men who messaged me as if this were a dating service.

Really should report that Sheila. Have you kept the messages?

Sheila Majczan I did report it to Sophia. But just had to share when I saw the other comments. I blocked the 3 men at fault.

Hell in a handbasket!! Can't men leave women alone??!!

I really love the female friendships I have made on Goodreads. It's damned fantastic to connect with people with different backgrounds etc from mine.

And if I wanted to date, I would have to have some pretty serious long term correspondence that showed that both parties were becoming interested in each other. It most certainly wouldn't be shallow because I liked the photo or 3 books the other person had read.

There are some men with honorable intentions, i.e., Kirk. Male authors also have been straight forward in their conversations so we cannot discount their presence here: Jack Caldwell and Stanley Michael Hurd, Jann Rowland

Margitte I would love to read the discussions of this book. And I also agree with your statement that this is how classic fiction should make one feel What a fantastic experience this book is.
