did not like it
bookshelves: fantasy-paranormal

This was the book that I HIGHLY ANTICIPATED and pined for it and yearned for it, and after all that expectations building I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED.

description

1. It was LONG. I don't mind a long book as long as it keeps me riveted, and given all the convoluted back story around Acheron, I figured - it's gonna be a blast and I'm gonna gobble up every word. Not so.

2. The h was meh. She just wasn't anything special, and kind of random in terms of fated to be for Acheron. He deserved someone truly special, but she was.... nothing special.

3. Maybe this book started it or helped the trend escalate - the whole sexual torture thing. I'm not a fan. I've read plenty of books with this plot device, but I just felt like it was delved into with too much detail here and turned me off. Plus, it's a departure from the vibe of the rest of the series to this point, so it felt kinda disjointed and out of place.

Overall, I think it was my built-up expectations that made this a flop for me. Never build up expectations, I've learned over the years! It's also the book that turned me off the series FOREVER AFTER! I have not read (nor any desire to read) another one of SK's books since.

Starr (AKA Starrfish) Rivers I totally agree!

Nile Princess It was horrible. I returned mine for a refund.

Addicted86 OMG exactly. Tory was soooooo bland it was pathetic and for Acheron ?!?! like what was she thinking... Ugh, I'll be honest I sometimes pretend like the 2nd part does not even exist... such disappointment... and good for you Nile Princess for getting your money back ! Unfortunately for me, I still have it although it is kept in the dungeon for, oh, forever.

Starr (AKA Starrfish) Rivers I actually got the hard copy I was so in love with this series until this book!

Cindi I didn't HATE it, but it definitely marked the beginning of SK's turn to torture - sexual and emotional. My larger problem with Ms. K is that she's changed her whole DH series to something unrecognizable. I wish she'd stick to who brung 'er this far. I have library card

Princess under cover Dont get me wrong - I like sexual and emotional torture in the right context. It just really dragged on here with no other purpose other than maybe the author liked writing it.

Teri So sorry this was such a disappointment!

Aurora I stopped reading Kenyon's Dark Hunters shortly after this one and never did read Styxx although I have a copy. I'm enjoying the YA Nick series but in this case, longer definitely wasn't better.

Princess under cover Ain’t that the truth! I don’t read YA, my brief attempts ended in rants in my reviews so I avoid them like the plague. I feel like SK tries too hard to catch the latest trend instead of sticking to what made her unique and building on it

message 10: by Loons (new) - added it

Loons I am at 60% and I am just like... meh. I love BDB i love. kresley cole (guilty pleasure of mine) and I love the night huntress series. But dark hunter... not so much. Bleh. I want to like them... i just don't... i need new books like the OG BDB series. The newer books in the series sucked as well.

Princess under cover This one killed the series for me...

Have you tried Aja James' Pure/ Dark Ones series? That's my absolute fave ever!
