really liked it

Triptych.
A three panel painting or photograph. Generally a large center panel with a hinged smaller panel on either side.
The three panels combined may display one larger view, three different views of the same subject or three related subjects.
The casual observation will enjoy the three panel experience.
Intellectual observers will contemplate weather the three views together offer a larger spectrum of it's subject.
It's the curious observer that sees the hinges.....

Jaline Great review!! I have several books in the Will Trent series and really want to start these - maybe next year! :)

PirateSteve Thank you, Jaline.
I see Ms.Slaughter has two series and I've read that characters sometime tie in between the two. If her writing remains this good throughout, then I will be reading a lot more of her stories. In this book the surprises actually caught me off guard. I like it when that happens.

AnisaAnne Great review- I have this one on the shelf!

PirateSteve AnisaAnne wrote: "Great review- I have this one on the shelf!"

Thank You AnisaAnne.
Maybe time has come to move this one from the shelf to your lap.
I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

Deanna Great review!

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo I loved this one, and ALL of the Will Trent Series Novels.

I'm close to finishing The Good Daughter - Karin Slaughter's latest. It's a standalone, and not for the faint of heart.

Thank You Deanna

It really does sound like Karin Slaughter is That Good of a writer.

I like it when that happens, too! I have also heard that her writing and storylines just keep getting better. I have a lot of catching up to do!! :)

Fran Excellent review ,PirateSteve!

Definitely one of those where I enjoyed reading the book, then writing my review.

If you do get a chance to read this book you'll meet one of the characters named Ray-Ray.
Ray-Ray's reply would be a lot like mine.
So many books. Sooo many books.

Tasha-Lynn If you like Slaughter's stuff then also check out Cody McFadyen. He had a short 4 book series that blew my mind when I first read it. Dark stuff!!!

Victoria Your review has unhinged me and thus I am intrigued.

PirateSteve Victoria wrote: "Your review has unhinged me and thus I am intrigued."

Oh, that made me smile.
I see that you like a "big reveal".
This book will give you that. No slow build up of clues that make you feel like an idiot when you do not get it. This has the suddenness of a big reveal.

McFadyen's "Smoky Barrett" does look like an interesting series.
But did you know ... The Truth Factory (Smoky Barrett #5)

Mackey Nice review Pirate Steve. I've read all of her books and both series do overlap eventually. Will Trent is, by far, the more interesting of the characters. She also has a stand alone titled "Coptown" that I think is her best work.

Cop Town goes on my list then and I already have Blindsighted and Fractured ordered. So how are you feeling about The Good Daughter?

I do like to be surprised, but I am a bit of a wimp about the gory bits so Slaughter has always been in the 'do not attempt' pile.

Mackey PirateSteve wrote: "Mackey wrote: "Nice review Pirate Steve. I've read all of her books and both series do overlap eventually. Will Trent is, by far, the more interesting of the characters. She also has a stand alone ..."

I've only read the first chapter. I had to set it aside to read some books that had to be reviewed first. So far, so good though. I like her writing style a lot and that goes a long way for me. I'll let you know more when I'm finished.

PirateSteve @Susanne... Thanks

@Victoria... I can't say there is no gore in this book but I have read so much worst. As always, It's up to you.

@Mackey... Aye, it's her style that has made this book such a fun experience.

Shelagh Rice Nice review Pirate Steve I enjoyed this one too.

PirateSteve Thank you Shelagh.
This is a fine example of a crime thriller.

message 29: by Seis (new) - rated it 5 stars

Seis I love most of her books, but especially the Will Trent series!

Christine Super minireview, Steve. You said a lot in so little words.

PirateSteve Sandy wrote: "I love most of her books, but especially the Will Trent series!"

So far, I do too. Book two has been even better.

PirateSteve Christine wrote: "Super minireview, Steve. You said a lot in so little words."

Thank you Christine.
Other people write much better synopsis than I do and I don't like giving spoilers so best to keep it short.
Though I do like to play around with a clue.

Well, since I have a problem with excess verbosity in my reviews, I admire yours!!

Ah Christine, but your reviews are so personable they are a delight to read.

Shainlock Oh wow! A crime thriller w a triptych! I wonder what was on this one and especially both sides bc they usually had a special inside and outside. I studied these. Ooh. Gotta read this. What a cultured pirate. ;)

PirateSteve Shaina wrote: "Oh wow! A crime thriller w a triptych! I wonder what was on this one and especially both sides bc they usually had a special inside and outside. I studied these. Ooh. Gotta read this. What a cultur..."

The triptych is a figurative expressive title of this book though it is very fitting to the story-line. There is no important wall decor that I remember in this book but your profile says that you like crime fiction and I think this is a good one. Thanks for the kind words.

Beverly Thanks for the great introduction. I love the first and can not wait to read the second of this series.

PirateSteve I'm thinking Karin Slaughter may become one of your favorite authors.

Violet Nichola Is this a series you should read in order? I just realized I got #5 from the library thinking it was the first one. Should I hold off?

PirateSteve Twisted Laurel wrote: "Is this a series you should read in order? I just realized I got #5 from the library thinking it was the first one. Should I hold off?"

It's my personal choice to read them in order. As characters come and go in the series I feel that I get better introductions that way.
So far that I've read though, each story has been a stand alone.

Violet Nichola Thanks so much for your answer! Also, I'm thinking if there is any significant character development, I wouldn't want to miss that either. I read Pretty Girls and WOW- she has an amazingly creative, warped mind! Looking forward to more of her. Thanks again!

Mike Abrahams I felt you're review could have bean a bit of a trap for pedants? Either that or weather it could have been a commenting on the editing of the book. I wasn't shore witch. (-:

Niklaus Soze PirateSteve, you couldn't dodge a ball or a wrench. Shame on you for recommending this to your friends.
