really liked it
bookshelves: netgalley, historical

I received this book from Netgalley for my honest review.

A solid historical romance!

I liked very much the beginning!

The hero, Brice, finds a half dead woman and choose to remain with her until she passes away. Fortunately, the woman doesn't die, but recovers, but she's unable to speak and acts more like a feral animal than woman. That's the heroine, Eleanor.

She's traumatized, badly beaten and staved. When she wake up and sees the hero, she's obviously terrorized by him. Who's that enormous man and what does he want from her? Will he beat her? Rape her?

I loved her honest and so very natural reactions. She's afraid, but she's ready to defend herself!

I very much admired Eleanor at the beginning and also during the book, but I felt that as she regained her health she also lost some of her naturalness. She got too much spunk and she got it very quickly: I felt it was too rushed.

But still she was a good, solid heroine.

I also love Brice with his oak solid body (wel, what's there not to like!?) and his also oak solid honour. To me he was like a big bear with a bigger heart. He was so tender when he dealt with the wounded Eleanor!

Tehir romance and love was delicious and doomed: she's English and he's a Highlander chief in a historical period when thir nations were bitter enemies.

I felt that the solution was foregone. I thought about that immeditely (maybe I read romance too much!!!), but they didn't consided it until the very end!

Anyhow, a very enjoyable read!
