I had always been a deep work enthusiast but I needed someone to reassure me that my way of thinking was right and I had to invest in this belief of mine which is as Cal Newport addresses "unfortunately underrated". It was really fun to read since he basically talks about the everyday obstacles we are facing and reluctantly bypassing them; for example, the urge that comes up every hour or two to check our e-mails for some "messages being directed specifically to ME". I love the way that Cal Newport argues in an evidence-based manner which obviously makes the topic more interesting to look forward to. Trust me you will not finish this book without having upgraded in some area of your life! Personally speaking, as a second year medical student who craves deep work in a so much distracted world, I suddenly found out that I actually do have time and I CAN finish my studying-sessions before midnight! This book has helped me more than enough to tell and I highly recommend it to all of you busy people out there: this is your calling to live the life of your dreams. Congratulations Cal Newport for making the world a better place. For at least us, your readers. THANK YOU....more

You decided to conduct 5 research this year and haven't started one yet? You planned on something great and got excited and now that it is time to act you can't move a limb? My mate, if any of these or close to these problems is yours, this would be the perfect book for you before summer break is over! Also for those whose first language is not English, you will find this book both fun and easy to read. FUN? oh yes FUN! This book won't let you just read thru it passively and put it back on the shelves. It makes you do things, it makes you WANT TO DO things. As you may know from "some" of the previous books I have reviewed on this website: I love reading about every productivity book that has been written and so to my interest, I found this book an actual combo of most of the books I've read so far! Including Deep Work, the 7 habits of highly effective people, and so on... I mean it is helpful, if anything it has gathered all the best strategies (that you can find in all the best books) on how to build new habits, sustain your good habits and break bad ones; served to you on a silver plate I would say. PS. Some of the highlighted ones: THE ULTIMATE PURPOSE OF HABITS IS TO SOLVE PROBLEMS WITH AS LITTLE ENERGY AND EFFORT AS POSSIBLE. MANY PEOPLE THINK THEY LACK MOTIVATION WHEN WHAT THEY REALLY LACK IS CLARITY. POINTING-AND-CALLING. KNOWING THAT SOMEONE IS WATCHING CAN BE A POWERFUL MOTIVATOR KEEP YOUR IDENTITY SMALL...more
