I know I am in the minority here since this is a widely beloved book but I give it a 2.5. I liked the theme a lot. I liked almost none of the characters. It could have had 200 pages cut from it and gotten the same message and impact across. Some of the characters had 0 role in the main plot line so I felt no connection to them and felt like I just wanted to skip their sections. Also, 9 different POVs in one book is just too many to follow as a reader. The writing was extremely flowery to the point that there are lines that are so cheesy I felt a little cringey. This took me so long to get through but it might have just become my favorite SK book (or at least tired for first). It’s SO good with different types of horror on so many levels, super unsettling and very graphic gore. My only issue was the very heavy handedness of the religious aspect towards the end but that’s a fairly common SK theme so I’m not super surprised, just not my thing and kind of takes some of the suspense out of it IMO.
