I seem to have grown pretty ambiguous towards billionaire MMCs. Maybe my feelings are due to every third romance book featuring a rich zaddy who can afford every single one of his FMC's desires, that they just fall flat to me now. They're just like lightbulbs, I guess. Once a wonder to the world, now a commodity nobody blinks an eye at. Ha. I wish billionaire MMCs were just half bright as them, because they often seem to do stupid things the FMC forgives entirely too quickly.
ANYWAY, that wasn't the case here. The H was the poor one, while the h was the one with a rich father. And damn, did I eat that trope up. Their social statuses made their situations and home life so much more interesting to me.
I loved how openly obsessed the H was from the moment he met her. He didn't deny his attraction towards her once, did not play down his feelings in front of his friends, even when the h was on a rampage ruining things he cared deeply about. In fact, her craziness was one of the things he loved about her, because each time he pushed her, she retaliated. That, in my opinion, is what made me fall for them as a couple. As much as I love the occasional psychopathic MMCs who bulldozes to get his way cough cough Carter Mahoney, I love an FMC who can match her MMC's crazy, and the h's reactions to what the H does in this book made me grin more than once. I also loved the way we got more of them as a couple, just spending time together and strengthening their bond.
As for another character, who is the H's best friend (and whose book is the 3rd in this series), can I just say that I already feel bad for his FMC? Because, ignoring his manwhore habits, he is just absolutely repulsive. At one point, he pees (!!!!!!) on the FMCs car seat WHILE SHE IS IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT, and sends her a picture of his poop. ??????? At that point, they didn't really know each other, and have talked maybe once or twice with the other. I just feel so bad for his future gf lol.
Anyway, that's it for the characters.
I will say, for the first quarter or so, I thought that this would be just another typical high school bully romance, but it turned out to be so much more interesting. There were a few cringey moments à la "You're so bad" "Yeah, but you like bad boys" "There's only one bad boy I like", but given the title of the book, I think cringey bad boy talk is expected.
