The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between
-funny shifter romance series: I’ve been reading these since the beginning, and I like the heroines and their humor, and the possessive/protective Alphas in this world. Ms. Kyle has an overarching storyline going on with the Wickham and Twynham sisters and the Five Families’ quest to hurt them for their interference in the way the Gathering is conducted and revealing that Wardens are allowed to have mates.
-Lorelei’s got a (pink) gun: She’s very much in line with earlier heroines. She’s not necessarily insecure about her looks, she’s more concerned about protecting herself and those she loves and being strong enough to defend herself. She was attacked years ago, and she refuses to be defenseless. I liked her.
-Dylan and Zeke are typical Alphas: Dylan’s tailored clothes and Zeke is ripped jeans and Chucks, but they’re very much in form as Warden Alphas.
-Ok, so it’s a formula: You either enjoy the formula or not, but there is definitely one here. Heroine meets alpha duo, sparks fly, some doubt, and then hey! it’s a menage with DP. It’s all MFM. For me, I don’t mind a formula as long as it’s done well. I know what I’m getting and I like what I get. Lorelei and her men take a backseat to the overarching story a bit but the big beats are done, and I am interested in seeing how they save the final Twynham sister, Paisley.
The Bottom Line A funny, quick read that features a BBW heroine and some hot werewolves. If that’s up your alley, I think you’ll enjoy it.

Paisley was kidnapped by the evil weres who hate the human Warden borns. It’s a whole thing….and then, romance.
The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between
It’s a quick, easy read: at roughly 120 pages or so, it’s not a big time investment.
So, by the sixth book, you should know what you’re getting: I could break down the usual, but really...it’s a MFM menage featuring a BBW heroine and two weres who are usually going through their own issues before they all give into their feelings and tada! The final big DP scene. The End. That’s the formula. It either works for you, or it doesn’t. Ms. Kyle’s humor and the overall setup for the universe works for me.
A little twist on things: Here, it’s a little different because Hawkins is older and the guys haven’t fully bonded because Hawkins is still traumatized from his last partner dying on him. I would have liked to see more at the end where Hawkins deals with his strong protective issues, and his floundering bond with Chance.
The big climax (and I don’t mean the DP scene): It felt a little disjointed and as if we didn’t get the full story there. Or perhaps it was underdeveloped. I did want more from that. Also, the big bad Maxim’s kidnapping happened mostly over the last few books, but even so I felt like there could have been more. Since the plan seems to be to extend this series, I guess we’ll see if anything else happens, but I was just left with more questions than a sense of completion.
The Bottom Line If you don’t mind the formula (BBW heroine+two weres=menage fun!) then you may enjoy this. I liked the twist and the humor, and I’ll admit it - if more books come out, I’ll read them.

In the spirit of using pop culture references, occasionally this story can be as awkward as Elaine Benes dancing. And just as funny. If you’re gen z, look it up.
I need to structure my thoughts about this story because there’s several things that I absolutely adored and some things that I didn’t but the good far outweighs what I may not love so let’s suss this out.
The Sitch: Matthew and Athena meet and immediately click, like two awkward folks finding each other at the exactly wrong time since, you see, she’s already engaged. To his brother. And that is not the end of the awkward that happens throughout this story, but romance also happens.
The Good: Ms. Dade really handled the subject of depression and (off page) child neglect and death with a deft hand, a lot of sensitivity and painful authenticity. Taking a story premise of a FMC falling for her future brother in law would usually be a hard pass for me but it actually works here. Humor’s always subjective but there’s a lot of silly, lighthearted moments of chemistry between Matthew and Athena to balance out the serious moments that made me laugh….
The Bad(ish): And occasionally, cringe a wee bit too much. The setup for the third act breakup and the eventual grand gesture were the things that I struggled mightily with. I mean, I understood it to an extent even if it was a close thing…
The Bottom Line: but at the end of the day, this made me laugh and it made me cry, so I have to give this its proper flowers for the keeping me invested in their HEA. Instead of stars, Here’s two jerky thumbs up ...more

I think it's a testament to Ms. Wells' writing that I willingly put myself through this extremely fat-shaming story. There are trigger warnings and I definitely do NOT recommend for anyone actively dealing with their own body acceptance issues because there's ALOT of BS to wade through.
But Ms. Wells has me well and truly hooked - I even hate the rejected mate trope and yet I keep reading this series! [image]
So having said all that, I did think the story itself was good, and the FMC's journey eventually got there but damn there's alot of pain to get to that point....more

This novella is a bit of fluff that just hit the spot. Loved that the FMC is unabashedly big, and while she's suffered as a slave, she's decided to not live in fear, because she's gone through the worst and come out the other side. There's all smushy feelings, no real tension and it's Ruby Dixon, and I love her writing, so I was happy. Looking forward to whatever she releases next....more

I mean The Mountain from GOT? yeah it's like that. And I forgot about this series but I'm glad I got a chance to binge it now.
Overall - fun slightly dangerous but also safe vibes. This has alpha MMCs, and cute FMCs who the MMCs are all in for from jump, and I enjoy that formula. ALOT.
Specific - Such a tasty little holiday treat. Love the positive fat rep, the alpha loving without being a a-hole. Well paced and fun, happy to see Eli get his HEA and see the crew at Hyde and Sweets you rock grow with every book....more

Look, this book isn’t pretending to be anything more than what it is. And this is very much of the “problematic? I don’t know her” school where fantasy is king and propriety can go eff itself. Which, that’s fine, can work for me, I don’t care read as you like, you’re a consenting adult, etcetera etcétera. Enjoy it or not. That’s up to you.
My struggle is that I just wasn’t into the story enough to look past its problematic bits. Like I kind of liked the family but the couple? Meh. But that’s just me....more

Love that it’s a “curvy” romance, not as big a fan that it’s so weight focused. Series Overview: Now, I’ve torn through her books like a storm through a paper tablecloth so I can definitely say I like Ms. Wilde’s writing style and that this particular series is more focused on the relationship/romance between Levi and Ashira than the first. I like that this features a diverse set of characters who live in Vancouver and the mythology of the magic is slightly different than the other series I’ve read from Ms. Wilde. Also, the overarching storyline regarding Ash’s particular magic being designed to take down a nebulous criminal cabal intent on gaining immortality is strong enough to carry through each book, but even if there’s a mild cliffhanger in each, you feel satisfied that each book has a beginning, middle and end. I really liked it....more

Another good start to a series. I’m intrigued with the worldbuilding, the characters are diverse, and there’s a touch more romance than the previous series I read by Ms. Wilde (Magic after Midlife), but there are some similarities. I guess the main thing I’ve seen from goodreads friends is that it’s similar to Ilona Andrews, but since I haven’t read their books, I can’t make the comparison. Either way, I liked this and I’m moving into to the next book. ...more

Trying to keep this short and sweet so here goes. Fourth book in series and is not a standalone. Still more interested in overarching storyline regarding the mystery of her parents’ death and the individual characters and I’m fascinated to see how this is going to wrap up. I wouldn’t come to this for the romance since it’s more a garnish than the main dish. If you’re into paranormal without the romance, you may enjoy it. Now I have to wait for the next one but I will be reading it. ...more
